90TH BIRTHDAY!

Jabez Good Carves Lasting Impression Doug Good, his wife Janet and cousin Carole Hall were welcomed to Burgh Heritage site recently. Doug and Carole’s great, great, great uncle was Jab-ez Good who carved the eagle lectern in the Parish Church. They brought with them the carved self portrait of Jabez for which he won an award in the 1870 Workman’s exhibition in London. They also met the couple who live in the house where Jab-ez had his barber shop.

Oyez, oyez, oyez...Burgh’s First Ever Town Crier!

At its AGM on Friday 27th May, Burgh Town Council appointed the first ever Town Crier for Burgh le Marsh.

Mr. Steven O’dare narrowly defeated Mrs.

Misty Culpin in a contest of brief informal pub-lic presentations. It is anticipated the Town Crier will help raise the town’s profile and enhance town life for residents, businesses and visitors alike.

The Town Crier’s livery will ideally be funded through sponsorship and events. To book the Town Crier for your event - or donate to-wards livery costs - contact the Town Clerk or Councillor David Fenton.

Who’s for Tennis? Did you know that at the end of Jack-sons Lane at Tink-ers Green there is a hard Ten-nis Court available for use?

If you would like to learn to play tennis or, perhaps, improve your game why not contact Michael Halls on 811936, who’ll be providing FREE coaching sessions in June & July on Tuesday & Thursday evenings.

To access the Tennis Court you’ll need a key which you can obtain from Roy who lives at No. 9. You are kindly requested to lock up after playing and return the key to Roy to maintain security.

NEW MEETING NIGHT. Burgh Town Council voted to alter its monthly meet-ings, moving from the

historic last Friday of the month to the last Tuesday of the month. By meeting earlier in the working week instead of at the end, the Council seeks to improve busi-ness continuity and eliminate competition with weekend activi-ties and busy periods for hospitality businesses for public attendance of the meetings.

NEW CIVIC HEADS. After rescind-ing its seniority proto-col for election of Mayor and Deputy, Neil Cooper became

the first Mayor/Chairman voted in to serve a second consecutive term, with David Fenton voted in to serve as Deputy Mayor/Chairman of the Council.
