Our Vision: An Excellent School Where Students Achieve Their Potential + 2015 Enrolments Enrolment numbers are steadily trickling in and we are now working towards forming classes to commence 2015. However a major concern is that some families who will not be returning to Brassall next year, have not yet let us know. This will result in a class being formed only to have it disbanded after the Day 8 Census process, if our enrolment figures change because families have moved. If you will NOT be returning to Brassall next year it is absolutely vital that you let us know by Friday, 14 November. You can do this by any of the following methods: Phoning the school office: 07 38134333 Emailing: [email protected] Sending a written note to the office. I cannot emphasise strongly enough how important this information is. If you are not returning in 2015 please take a few minutes to notify us now. In terms of class structures for 2015, we are currently working diligently on the formation of classes taking into consideration a range of factors including gender balance, equity of numbers and student relationships, to get the best possible grouping of students to commence 2015. This is a process our staff take a very serious and professional approach to, and I support them in their judgement and decisions. This information will go home to all parents during the last week of school. World Teachers Day – Friday 31 October Last Friday, 31 October was World Teachers’ Day. Celebrated in more than 100 countries, World Teachers’ Day acknowledges the efforts of teachers in an increasingly complex society. Every day teachers are building skills that translate into future careers. They are shaping our future workforce and creating the next generation of leaders and innovators. As proud Principal of Brassall, I would like to recognise all the teaching staff at our great school who demonstrate every day their dedication and enthusiasm to their work and for making a significant contribution towards the lives of our students. I would like to thank our students and parents who showed their appreciation to their teacher in some small way last week. On behalf of our school community we say thank you! Staff Career Milestones Congratulations to Miss Tara Haskins (5/6T Class Teacher), Mrs Kylie Osborne (5O Class Teacher), Mrs Michelle Bigwood (7B Class Teacher), Mrs Jodi-Lea Woodford (1W Class Teacher), Mrs Kandice Hutson (Head of Curriculum), Mrs Summa Todd (Deputy Principal) and Mr Ross Pedley (4P Class Teacher) who were acknowledged at last Friday’s assembly for reaching significant milestones in their careers with Education Queensland. 5 Years of Service for Education Queensland Miss Tara Haskins Mrs Kylie Osborne Mrs Michelle Bigwood 10 Years of Service for Education Queensland Mrs Jodi Woodford Mrs Kandice Hutson Mrs Summa Todd 25 Years of Service for Education Queensland Mr Ross Pedley 2015 Prep Enrolments As we enter the last 5 weeks of the school year it is time for us to start finalising planning for 2015. We also ask that you pass this message to any families who may be joining us for the first time next year. We would like to make the start of the year as smooth as possible for all involved and appreciate your assistance. TONIGHT we will be holding our second Prep Information night for 2015, starting at 6pm in our Prep Classrooms (Prep M). We look forward to seeing you there! Stunning Soiree Our Performing Arts program at Brassall has had a wonderful 2014. 4L Collecting for Needy Ipswich Families Class 4L are ready to start collecting donations for the Queensland Times Adopt a Family Christmas hampers for needy Ipswich families. We would like you to bring in non-perishable food items and we will present them to a representative of the Ipswich Ministers’ Fraternal on our last parade of this year. Good things to bring are tins of fruit or vegetables, tins of spaghetti or baked beans, pasta and pasta sauces, biscuits, chips, soft drink, long life milk and juice and special Christmas food like cakes, shortbread and lollies. Students from 4L will visit classrooms on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons to collect your donations. The final day for donations will be Friday 5th December.

Last year the school collected over 20 boxes of food which was a fantastic Brassall effort. We are sure we can do as well or better this year. Thank you for helping us show people who don’t have as much as all of us, that we care. Please remember to check all use by dates and not donate individual bars or packets. We will tally up your items and let you know the most generous class each collection day. This class will receive a honeycomb piece as a bonus, so start donating NOW!!!!

Kambu Health Checks As part of the Year 6 & 7 Deadly Choices program, KAMBU will be visiting on 19, 20 and 21 November to carry out health checks on all of our indigenous students in Year 6 & 7. If you receive a form, please complete it ASAP and return to the office to ensure a time can be booked for your child.

Bus Passes for 2015 Each year, Westside Bus Company (WBC) reviews school services with TransLink. As you will be aware, the 2015 review process will be different with respect to the movement of Year 7 to high schools. Final school runs will be published on the WBC website at http://www.busqld.com.au once approved by TransLink later this year. WBC plan on making small changes to the process of issuing of student bus passes based on feedback from parents last year. The changes for schools to note are:

1. WBC are encouraging parents to submit bus pass applications before school starts, anytime from 5 January 2015.

2. WBC will be printing bus passes before school term starts for applications received before 20 January 2015 and will distribute to schools on 27 January 2015 for pickup by students.

Applications received after 20 January 2015 may not have a bus pass printed in time for the first week of school, however WBC will have a grace period on school passes for January/February 2015.
