Great to see the awesome start we are off to in 2018.
So many new and improved aspects for the club. Website - Facebook - Boyz N Coffee -Membership - Events .....and many more. Hope you all are enjoying and thanks to all who have been working on this.
Wanted to bring up the hot rod aftermarket situation. Seems like no matter how much better it is today as far as selection and pricing - we continue to experience and hear about issues.
My dad was totally against aftermarket speed parts - most likely because of his bad experiences with them in the 50's. So when I wanted to put a B&M shift kit in a Turbo 400 for my 67 Chevelle - I didn't tell him. Had a buddy install it in the middle of the night at the local Ford dealership he worked at (and funny he was a total Chevy guy working there). Took my dad on his first drive in the car - and of course it chirped the tires in every gear with normal acceleration - he looked over at me and said "what did you do?" - I told him - he kinda shrugged a bit and maybe even smiled. Mom and dad took that car to breakfast every Saturday and Sunday (while I was sleeping in as any good teenager is supposed to do) the entire time I had it - they loved it.
My point is - we as a club have a great brain trust and vast amount of experience in this hobby - we need to share what is working and what is not - share solutions we find with the rest of the club - so we all don't keep going through the same pain with some of this aftermarket stuff.
Adolph has a spot on the web page for Tech Tips - and also feel free to share at meetings -help your fellow rodders out😋😋😋😋😋.
Just some thoughts - Keep on Cruizin

A year ago I replaced the headlights on the 65 Chevelle with HID lights. I never finished the story behind the lights that
I originally put on. So, I’m gonna finish that story now.
The lights I put on were purchased thru the internet from TopGearAutosport.com. When I got them I noticed that they
were made in China, not happy about that. Put them in and had issues right off the bat. Lenses fog over on the inside
and bulbs blacken and not bright at all. They sent me a new set of lights, same as the 1st set of lights. Same problem. I
sent them an email explaining the problem and want them to compensate me on my time and expense. Never heard a
word from them. Guess I won’t deal with them anymore.
Needing headlights for the 65 I called OPGI and asked them about theirs, being a little gun shy now. Asked who made
them, where were they made, what kind of response have they had with them. And are they glass or plastic. I was
assured that the lights were made in the USA, California to be exact, just don’t remember the city. They were made of
glass and nobody has written a complaint about them. Still feeling a little gun shy but better, I ordered the lights, 3X
the cost of the first set. So now I’ve paid $500+ for lights. Damn things better work!!
To this day the lights are bright (came with Sylvania blue dots), the lenses are clear and I’m happy that I can see in the
dark. When the 67 Chevelle is done it will light up the dark also, because I put those same lights on that car.
Do the research for the parts you buy. I now look at everything and anything about a part. Even speed parts that I’ve
bought in the past. Sometimes you just can’t get around cheap parts and all you can do is cross your fingers.
Thanks for listening
Tom
Notes from the VP:
I just bought a newer Dodge Challenger RT. It has the 5.7 hemi engine, a 6 speed manual
transmission, four wheel disc brakes and independent rear suspension. The thing is bad ass! And
there are two or three models hotter than this one..
On one hand this puts me back in the "is it a big block?" crap I've been getting for years. My
Chevelle is a Malibu, the Malibu is a small block car. The SS has the big block, I go through this over
and over and over. My Chevelle runs great and I'll romp it right next to an SS any day. So now I tell
people of my new RT and they ask is it a ??, NO.
The day I bought the RT I thought I'll take this one on the BOYZ cruise this summer. In truth I will
not, my Chevelle is the classic muscle car and she is the one who will go on the long journey,
Cinderella has been my baby for 23 years. the new one is really fun and is engineered in ways that
they had not even dreamed about in 1966 but my classic will always be the coolest one in the
stable.

P.S.
Love all this rain but, I like summer more !

Bowling FUN!!!
On March 10th, we had 3 classic cars and 4 modern cars leave Vallejo for Paddock Bowl in
Pacheco. (We had 4 more cars meet us there.) It seems the threat of rain kept some away… You
missed out if you didn’t make it to the bowling alley.
We had 13 ½ bowlers and a pretty good cheering section! Everyone had a blast! There were
quite a few strikes thrown, some spares, a bunch of gutter balls and of course a bet here and
there. Everyone had a great time no matter how the bowling was going.
After they finished 3 games, we headed for DQ in Vallejo for a bite to eat. Traffic was a little
heavy and it was a tight “merge” getting onto Hwy 4 so Tom Morrow and Joe Gracie took
advantage of a small opening and “jumped on it”. Then an immediate merge onto Hwy 80.
Shortly after getting on Hwy 680 we see red & blue lights flashing back a bit behind us. Too
much traffic to see what is going on… We hope it isn’t one of the Boyz.
When we get to DQ we find out that Sharan Gracie got pulled over for speeding (in a new
Cadillac Escalade). The officer asked her why she was in such a hurry and she said “I was
speeding to catch up with my husband’s classic car group”. The office said “so was I, I was after
the blue and white one”. Thanks Sharan for running interference for Tom & Joe – I don’t think
they would have been let go without a ticket. (Too hard to hide the bright blue & white ’56… he
would have caught us for sure.) Curt & Stephanie and Dan & Cristy went home and got their
classics on the way to DQ making it 5 classics for lunch. Good burgers, fries and ice cream and
lots of fun with a great group of people!

Social Connections:
I joined the Boyz back in 2011 to find a mechanic for my 65 Malibu. My first event/meeting was at Sears Point. Yes, I found my mechanic that night.
But that’s not what this is about. I got involved with the club. Went to shows, volunteered on committees, went on cruises, etc. I even became the Social Director. My involvement resulted in making a LOT of great friends that are now family to me.
The point is… get involved in whatever you can. You will have a great time, meet great people and who knows where it will lead you. For me, well that mechanic became my husband – the love of my life! All because I “got involved with the Boyz Under the Hood”. Hope to see more of you at more functions.
