Paul Martin & Ken Schroder trade musical ideas supported by a driving , swinging rhythm section on the

occasion of achieving a combined total of 150 years. There's a kind of brotherhood connecting saxophone players who've tackled all the tunes over long careers even though they all come at it from a slightly different angle. Paul and Ken met long ago in Sydney but travelled along different musical paths, sometimes parallel, over the many years until they resumed each other's acquaintance in Hobart. It seemed like a good idea when they are both celebrating significant birthdays around now to combine forces and put together the fruits of their musical meanderings.

With a variety of saxes and clarinets between them, there is the promise of interesting sound combinations as well as their different styles of improvising. They've chosen a hot rhythm section comprising Randal Muir (piano), Aaron Entresz (guitar), Hamish Houston (bass) and Eric Johnstone (drums). The repertoire will be swing standards from the Basie, Ellington, Django and Fats Waller song-books and much more. They'll make you laugh, they'll make you cry, they'll make you want to dance.

Jazz around Hobart This is our major fundraiser for Hot August Jazz 2018. 

Our Jazz around Hobart Calendar shows some venues, local iconic loca ons and  musicians in the Hobart Area. Many thanks to the Clarence City Council for their generous sponsorship of the  Calendar; this just shows their incredible support for Tasmanian Jazz. We would also like to thank our Photographer Sarah Walker from Paper Lantern  Photography for running around all over the place taking photos of the musicians, Wrest Point Casino and of course the calendar par cipants. I think you will enjoy this li le piece of memorabilia. We have printed a limited  number so get yours early. They will make fabulous Christmas gi s and be ideal for people from the north Island and overseas. The calendar will be available from August 2017 at Jazz Club events, Hot August Jazz Fes val or simply by contac ng us to arrange your copy hobartjazzclub@gmail.com Cost:  Standard  ‐  $20 per calendar   Jazz Club members: $15 per calendar   Postage nego able

Allan Park (Parky) was renown for his passion for his children, golf, beer, the odd bet

and most of all music; in particular jazz. He was a drummer and was a past

president of the Hobart Jazz Club Inc. I had the pleasure of knowing him for 25 years,

he was drummer with “A Touch of Class” (with Neil Levis and myself). I find the best way to

show you someone is in pictures. KP
