Did you know that LCSD is

part of an elite group in

Mississippi? That’s right! We are 1 of 3 district’s

in the state whose students don't have

access to a career tech center.

Page 18: The Bond Issue The Lowndes County School District.

CTE students can earn graduate honors as a Mississippi Scholars Tech Master.

A few words about taxes…

Page 21: The Bond Issue The Lowndes County School District.

Fee In Lieu Tax

Just what is that anyway?

“My taxes won’t go up and Fee In Lieu?”

ad valorem means “based on value or worth”It is a property tax based on a percentage of the county’s assessment of the property’s value.

Page 22: The Bond Issue The Lowndes County School District.

It is actually a fee in lieu of ad valorem taxes in the amount of 1/3 of the value of the ad valorem tax. Fee in Lieu was charged in effort to attract industry to the Golden Triangle area. The fee in lieu is paid for 10 years and then it rolls off as the industry begins to pay its’ ad valorem tax. We currently receive over $6,000,000 in fee in lieu. This will continue to roll off and become $18,000,000 in ad valorem dollars. This will be a net increase of $12,000,000 in ad valorem tax over the next 6 years.
