PRINCIPAL’S REPORT Our students were treated to a performance of the Rosebay Secondary College orchestral groups yesterday. Members of our school orchestra had the opportunity to rehearse and play with the visiting musicians.

Our thanks go to students for their support of fire victims through the crazy hair day held today. The funds raised today will go to Blaze Aid to help provide fencing wire to farmers affected by fires in the Armidale area.

Weirdathon Year 12 students from Armidale Secondary College will hold their annual Weirdathon tomorrow, 26 September. Students are asked to bring a gold coin donation which will go towards the support unit and Beyond Blue.

The Weirdathon provides students and staff with an opportunity to recognise and farewell past students as they prepare for the Higher School Certificate. We wish all Year 12 students well in their studies, exams and life beyond school.

Kindergarten Enrolment Letters accepting the enrolment of students into Kindergarten 2020 have been posted to parents who have lodged enrolment forms. If you have not received a letter by the end of the week and are expecting one, please contact the school to make sure that your enrolment application has been received.

Tell Them From Me parent survey This term, our school will be participating in the Partners in Learning parent survey, another part of the Tell Them From Me suite of surveys (student, teacher and parent surveys) on student engagement. The survey asks parents and carers questions about different factors that are known to impact on student wellbeing and engagement.

The survey is conducted entirely online on smartphones, iPads, tablets, laptops or computers. The survey will typically take 15 minutes or less to complete and is completely confidential. The parent survey will be conducted between 26 August and 25 October. Although participating in the survey is entirely voluntary, your responses are very much appreciated.

More information about the survey is available at: http://surveys.cese.nsw.gov.au. To access the survey for our school go to: http://nsw.tellthemfromme.com/h5xmq

End of Term Parents are reminded that all absences need to be explained within seven days of the first day of absence. If your child has been absent this week, including up until and including Friday, it will need to be explained by the end of this week for it to be justified.

This Friday is the last day of Term 3. Students and staff will return to school for Term 4 on Monday, 14 October. Daylight savings time will begin during the holidays on Sunday, 6 October.

We wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday. Ms Deborah Nay

WORK OF THE FORTNIGHT

2/3C CLASS NEWS 2/3C have had a wonderful term looking at and learning through Australian texts. We have focused on the Colin Thiele texts ‘Pannikin and Pinta’ and ‘Storm Boy’ along with stories from the Dreamtime. We have been fascinated by Lake Eyre and pelicans and have been learning about how our connections to books can create emotions within us. Did you know that pelicans are known to be some of the best parents in the world?

We have been taking some of our lessons outside and engaging in outdoor learning and nature play. We have sorted, classified and graphed objects from nature, found angles in nature, wrote similes and alliteration from a sketch we did in the nature garden and at times we have enjoyed listening to, smelling, touching and discussing what we notice in nature. Our outdoor learning has created curiosity and encouraged investigations and has seen the students really excited, engaged and feeling calm and happy. We have decided in 2/3C that mindfulness outside is wonderful and that it is ok to be friends with a tree.

We enjoyed our excursion to Thalgarrah and learning about our environment and the weather. Year 3 students were a part of the wonderful ACOS performance and Year 2 have loved going to gymnastics. We are looking forward to a wonderful Term 4.

From Mrs Clarke and the Fabulous 2/3C
