Planned Giving

Tomorrow’s results are created by today’s dreamers. Many people dream of ways to help improve the future of our community’s youth. One dependable way to do this is to provide compassionate mentorship for our kids. Donors find that a good way to support the hopes and dreams of children is to ensure Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona’s future. One easy way you can do this is to include BBSAZ as a beneficiary of all or part of your retirement plan or life insurance policy. Learn more about this support option by visiting our website at www.bbbsaz.org/legacy or calling Karen Staley at 602-393-4120.

Clothing Drives Help Make More Matches

The gift giving and receiving season is once again upon us! Should you find your closets in need of cleaning in order to fit some anticipated items on your wish list, please consider donating your gently used items to our BBBSAZ Clothing Donation Center.

We offer convenient curbside pickup or you can drop off donations to any Valley-wide Savers Thrift Stores.

BBBSAZ also hosts fundraising clothing drives to benefit organizations such as churches, schools, and sports teams. During the past 12 months, BBBSAZ helped such organizations host 97 clothing fundraisers throughout the Valley and picked up 103,500 pounds of donated items. These fundraisers are mutually beneficial because BBBSAZ pays each organization .20/lb of usable donations.

Chapparal High School volleyball teams raised enough money to pay for their year-end banquet by collecting 5,000 pounds through their 2-week clothing drive. Nice job girls!Contact John Purtell for all your clothing donation needs at: 623-695-1436 or at [email protected]

Big Tips for MatchesYour Little’s Imagination is truly special

Sometimes my Little will share things with me that are highly imaginative, but I don’t know if they are true. How do I respond to this?

Children can create some of the most fantastic stories, can’t they? While a few of the details within their stories might be curious, it is important to provide a non-judgmental listening ear to hear all that they have to say. Children feel a sense of trust when they are heard by an adult. Of course, this is also a great opportunity to explore different ideas about things and offer new perspectives! Have fun with these conversations while at the same time starting deeper conversations. Thanks Bigs, for all that you do!

Here’s a special story recently shared by a Big Sister that perfectly illustrates how to enjoy a fun imagination!

“I had an outing with my Little Sister today. On the way home she told me the cutest “story” that I’d like to share: My Little Sister and her mother helped out a camel that wandered into their apartment’s parking area yesterday. It was amazing. The camel was pregnant and my Little Sister and her mother helped the mommy camel deliver her baby camel, a girl - right there in the parking area! My Little Sister told me how the baby camel is the fast-growing kind and so is already grown up by today and doesn’t have to stay with her mommy camel. That’s why my Little Sister and her mother decided to send the mommy camel back to Egypt and took her to the airport and got her on the plane. Apparently, my Little Sister and her mother are still trying to decide where to send the baby camel. I do so enjoy my Little Sister’s imagination (she’s 8 years old)...”
