From the Principal Sun Safety We have been VERY concerned about the number of students who have been coming to school without a hat. This week we have seen a huge improvement, however there are still many students not following the school’s expectation. Please reinforce sun safety at home and help us to keep your child pro-tected from the damage the sun can cause. 2013 Student Leaders This time of the year our Year 5 students are given the opportunity to stand for student leadership positions. These are Captain, Vice-Captain and Prefect positions. Candidates are presenting their speeches to the school at next week’s whole school assembly. In 2013 the Student Leadership Team will comprise two Captains, two Vice- Captains and four Prefects. I wish all candidates the best of luck. School Expectations Our school expectations of Respect, Have a Go and Fair Go do not turn on and off like a light switch. They are embedded in our school and are constant. I want to congratulate the students in our school who live by our school expectations every day and make us proud. These students have attained their Bronze, Silver, Gold and Diamond Bunyas. Well done!
Sports Photos This Friday is the last day to order any photos. Please hand money into the office.
Sports Name Change As you know we are looking at changing our Sport’s House names to add value to sport at Bidwill Public School. If you have any concerns regarding this please send me a note or let me know, personally. Thank you Mrs Cox

Measles Fact Sheet- What is measles? Measles is a viral disease that
may have serious complica-tions
In the past, measles infection was very common in child-hood. Measles is now rare in NSW because of immunisation but many areas of the world continue to experience out-breaks.
What are the Symptoms? The first symptoms are fever,
tiredness, cough, runny nose, sore red eyes and feeling un-well. A few days later a rash appears. The rash starts on the face, spreads down to the body and lasts for 4-7 days. The rash is not itchy.
Up to a third of people with measles have complications. These include ear infections, diarrhoea and pneumonia, and may require hospitalisation. About one in every 1000 peo-ple with measles develops en-cephalitis ( swelling of the brain).
If you would like a complete fact sheet please see the ladies in the office.

Bandana Day at Bidwill
Over the last few weeks, we have been selling bandanas and pens for CanTeen, to raise money for children and teenagers affected by cancer. We have been flocked by students, teachers and parents buying them like crazy! Last Friday, some of the students who had bought bandanas were part of a group photo to celebrate Bandana Day, and it was a lot of fun. Thank you to the ladies in the office and the reliable students on the SRC who have helped to sell so many bandanas and pens. We accidentally made a dou-ble order of SIX boxes, and with your support, we have less than a box left, so THANK YOU for helping children and teenagers who have been affected by cancer. You have helped to make a difference!
