YOU VOTED FOR YOUR FAVORITES;NOW CHECK OUT THE RESULTS!Explore and support these andother great businesses by shopping locally
Dear reader,
Working and living in Issaquah for over 30 years, my family and I have patronized many
local businesses in Issaquah and Sammamish — and have come to know many associates, clerks, managers and owners by name.
We frequent several favorite places, where we nd people willing to help, valuable services and where we create lasting memories.
And during the past few weeks, our readers have also sounded o on their favorite businesses by nominating local companies in myriad categories of the cities’ thriving retail and service sectors. Our popular annual poll, the “Best of Issaquah and Sammamish,” honors all the movers and shakers in Issaquah and Sammamish.
Finally, you’ll nd the results in the pages of today’s Issaquah/Sammamish Reporter.
Whether the winners, runners up or honorable mentions have a hundred
votes, or just three, I am proud of all of them — and am pleased that in a busy, dynamic and competitive marketplace, the sta of these local businesses have given 110 percent to earn the loyalty of Issaquah and Sammamish consumers.
ese businesses have earned our trust!
I hope that, like my family, you have dined at, bought clothes from, met
friends at, been advised by, bought owers from, been clipped, coied or blinged, been soothed or caeinated, medically poked or prodded, had your homes improved and your cars serviced by these local businesses and many others like it.
Some of the businesses and people listed on page 15 may be familiar. Some may be new to you. But each one
is unique. I urge you to give all our local
businesses a try, and get to know the amazing and diverse services, products and hardworking people that we have right here in our own backyard.
From the best chiropractor, to the best senior living facility and public gure, we salute these entrepreneurs, ocials, people and organizations that make Issaquah and Sammamish exceptional.

Honoring the heart of Sammamish and Issaquah: small businesses
Every year since 1963, the president has ocially designated a National Small Business Week.
is is a perfect time for us to renew our commitment to small businesses in Sammamish and Issaquah, a vital part of the backbone and foundation of the strongest, most resilient economy the world has ever known.
is year, National Small Business Week will occur from May 1–7. e theme this year is “Dream Big, Start Small.” Across the Puget Sound, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will recognize the role small businesses play in building thriving communities like Sammamish and Issaquah.
Small businesses today create two out of every three new private-sector jobs and employ half of the private workforce. Now, more than ever, we have an opportunity to help entrepreneurs in Sammamish and Is-saquah as they continue to drive the Puget Sound’s economy forward.
For more than 200 years, American innovation has sparked ideas that have changed the course of history and im-proved lives for millions. At the SBA, we are determined to ensure local enter-prises continue to have the nancial tools, resources, and expertise they need to suc-ceed. Every day, SBA is working to grow
small businesses, create 21st century jobs, drive innovation, and increase the global competitiveness of our local businesses.
In fact, a local Sammamish business owner will be honored during National Small Business Week as the 2016 SBA Washing-ton Small Business Advocate of the Year.
e Small Business Advocate award recognizes individu-als who volunteer their time to advance small business interests, demonstrate eorts to improve conditions in the small business community, provide professional
services to the small business community, demonstrate accomplishments in advising small business groups, and advocate for small business interests.
Meylah Owner Chaitra Vedullapalli was selected for her volunteer work helping bring digital equity and readiness to small businesses through the Ignite Washington initiative.
Small business owners like Vedullapalli are the heart of Sammamish and Issaquah. Together, let’s seize the opportunity to highlight the impact of outstanding entrepreneurs, small business owners, and others from Sammamish and Issaquah.
Calvin Goings is regional administrator for SBA Region 10 in Seattle.

HUGE MOTHER’S DAYWEEKEND PLANT SALE
If you’re looking for Mother’s Day gi and your Mama loves plants, your search is over. We have beautiful plants for your Mother’s garden, grown right here at The Daily Plant-It in Issaquah, and oered at aordable prices.
We’ve made it so easy for you – nothing to wrap! Just dig a hole, add a plant, and some water. Sunshine and your Mama’s love do the rest!
We have over 1,500 one quart, one gallon, and even two-gallon size plants priced at just $5.97. Over 50 kinds of Irises, Hostas, Sedum, Daylilies, Lavender and Rosemary, owering shrubs like Spirea and Ninebark and Snowball Viburnum, and some simply spectacular
Dappled Willows. ere are lots of choices, all beautiful, and all for only $5.97.
Ever see a three-foot tall Chinese Dogwood or Japanese Red Maple for only $5.97? We’ve got them right here, ready to make your mama smile.
Want a really special gi for Mom? Try ten kinds of Clematis. Some are in bloom, and one is evergreen! ere’s more -- you can never go wrong with Peonies and Hydrangeas, and Mom will love the luxurious foliage of our Black Lace Elderberry. All these and more are available in big, two-gallon pots, almost all under $20.
How about bright golden Lemon Cypress that look great in containers or in the garden, and even some Pink Double Knock Out Roses? Come early for these – they’ll go fast.
We have some very special Dogwoods – Wolf Eye and Variegated Stellar Pink. Both have bright green leaves with bold white edges. If Mama prefers pink and dainty, she’ll ip over Rosey Teacups, small enough to grow in a container on her patio.
I saved the best for last. We have an impressive collection of Japanese Laceleaf Maples – probably 40 varieties. Red, Green, Variegated, and even dwarf sizes that are perfect for containers. Some you may have
heard of, and some are so rare and unusual you’d never expect to nd them in a neighborhood nursery. ey start at just $29, and not one of them is more than $69.
All this is happening FRIDAY, SATURDAY, and SUNDAY, May 6, 7, and 8 (and every weekend through the end of May). Joe and I will be standing out in the driveway waiting for you at 10 am, and we close the gates at 4 pm. We are The Daily Plant-It, and we’re at 10603 Issaquah Hobart Rd, Issaquah 98027, about a mile south of Issaquah. We’ve got a big white sign. Just come on down the driveway. I promise you’ll like what you see, and Mama will, too.
