Index 2Student Progress

Designed to measure student growth on the STAAR test from the prior year to this year. STAAR M, Alt, & ELL Progress Measure were included this year, but were not

included last year.

Subjects: Reading and Mathematics; Next year, Writing will be included in high school.

Student Groups: 10 which include All students, ELL, Sped, Af. Am. , Am. Ind., Asian, Hispanic, Pac. Isl., White, Two or More Races

Minimum Size Criteria: • All Students > 10• Race/Ethnicity, ELL, Sped > 25

*High School does not have an Index 2 score for 2013-14 due to the combination of Reading and Writing into one test.

Index 2Methodology: 2 Step Process

1. For each student group, the % of students at the growth level on the assessment is multiplied by the weight for that growth level – each subject• One point for each % of student at the Met growth level• One additional point for each % of students at the Exceeded growth level

2. Combine all subjects and points for a final index score

Target: Set at or about the 5th percentile of campus performance and will be applied to both campuses and districts

Index 3Closing Performance Gaps

Purpose is to emphasize the advanced academic achievement of economically disadvantaged students and the two lowest performing

race/ethnicity students groups

Subjects: Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies

Student Groups: Economically Disadvantaged and the two lowest performing race/ethnicity student groups based on prior year assessment results

Minimum Size Criteria:– Economically Disadvantaged – none– Race/Ethnicity groups - > 25 tests

Methodology: 2 Step Process1. Each subject contributes points from each student group:

• One point for each % of tests that meet Phase-In I Level II Performance and above• One additional point added for each % of tests at Level III Advanced

– This is new this year.

2. Combine all subjects and points for a final index score

Index 4Postsecondary Readiness

Purpose is to emphasize the importance for students to receive a high school diploma that provides the foundation necessary for success in college, the

workforce, job training programs, or the military; and the role of the elementary and middle schools in preparing students for high school.

Calculation is a multiple step process:• STAAR Component (% Met Final Level II on Two or More Tests). 8 student

groups, all subject areas combined scoring Final Level II on two or more subjects. Elementary and Middle ONLY use this. High school uses this plus the next 3.

• Graduation Rate: 4 or 5 year graduation rate or Annual Drop Out Rate• Graduation Plan (RHSP/DAP)• College Ready Criteria on SAT, ACT, TSI in both Reading and Math

recipients, and dropouts)
