The Rate Your Landlord survey will run from January 9th to February 29th and allows students to have their say on their landlord and accommodation. The information given is confidential so students can honestly say how they feel.

Last year, 586 students honestly rated their landlords and we’ve already seen some providers upping their game as students demand more for their money. This year, we want more students to take part so we can improve the standard of student accommodation across Liverpool.

LiverpoolSU is joining forces with Liverpool Guild of Students and Hope University Students’ Union to give all students in Liverpool their chance to rate their landlord.

To complete the survey go towww.liverpoolsu.com/rateyourlandlord

After submissions close on February 29th, a report will be created and you will then be able to see where the good and bad landlords are. Given a choice of Heaven and Hell, where would you like to end up?

For more information, contact James McGarvey, LiverpoolSU’s Vice President Community [email protected]

There are over 20000 LJMU students and we want many different things – LiverpoolSU is our collective representative union, where we bring different views together into one strong student voice, to make the University, City of Liverpool and our students’ union better.

LiverpoolSU’s three Forums are the way we do this. They’re open

meetings (you don’t need an invitation – you can just turn up) and they’re student-led (you don’t need permission – you can talk about any issue you like). They each meet twice in spring 2012 to help LiverpoolSU understand exactly what LJMU students want to change, and to help LJMU students work to change their experience for the better.

Student Forums

Tuesday 7th February 2012We will be electing a funding committee

The Better Union Forum is about societies, sports and services. Vice President (Activities) Tom Aldus is told how he can work to make sure that the social life of LJMU students is outstanding. This year, for example, he’s been working on the University’s sports facilities with Liverpool City Council and ensuring they can be everything students need them to be.

Get talking...

Page 9: The Beat - January 2012

Tuesday 14th February 2012Topic for discussion is sexual health

The Better City Forum focuses on accommodation, safety and transport. Students direct the work of James McGarvey, our Vice President (Community Engagement) to improve their life at home. The Forum has already started work on surveying students about their landlords, to recognise the best and help the rest improve.

Thursday 9th February 2012Topic for discussion is Assessment Feedback

The Better University Forum spends its time thinking about how courses, libraries and learning could be improved. Paul Abernethy is the Vice President (Academic Quality) and the Forum has asked him to look at how LJMU can spot and reward the best teachers in the University – and sort out bad teaching whenever it happens. The Third Annual Amazing Teacher Awards are being led by the Forum, and hundreds of students will engage in their work.

Forums are there to help ordinary students, like you, shape the very top of the University, City and Union – because your needs are special and different to anybody else’s. The next forums are held in February and we’re looking forward to seeing you there!
