As a pastor I am aware there is division in society over how to respond to the Corona virus. The division is not only in society at large. It is also in the church. It divides us in how we respond to it, and how we regard one anther by how we do or dont respond to it. I wont dismiss the virus as if it were insignificant. It has killed people. It can kill people. I believe informaon will connue to shiſt in how this virus works and what works to stop it. Much of societys reacon to the virus has come about because of the lack of experience with the virus. Worldwide, we lack a long history of dealing with it. This has led to many assumpons, predicons, and fears. Socially, we have been given a lot of fear regarding it. Fear should movate us to have cauon. However, we must not allow fear to force us to live isolated forever. What is most important is that we do not allow our hearts to form negave opinions about people who differ from us in how we respond to the virus. If we form an us versus themstate, we are divided. A divided people cannot remain a unity. As a pastor, I want to ask everyone to step back and reconsider something. If we could back up pre-COVID-19, we always took a risk to gather in a public place. Church is a public gathering. We have always had a certain level of risk-taking to come to church. This is the nature of being in the public space. There are other bugs that can kill you just as much as COVID. At this me, all eyes are on COVID. Yet, even beyond COVID there are bugs that can kill you or dangerously harm you. You do not fear them because there is not focus on them. Yet, they are real. Here is my point. Everyone of us has to make a decision at what point of risk we are comfortable in taking to be in the public space. COVID does not change this. It has always been this way. At church we will do what we can do to help protect you from those risks. However, each of us much decide if we are comfortable with the risk of engaging in public worship. What I am asking you to do is to show respect for others who disagree with you over how to respond to this risk. Let us not allow this crisis to be a cause of division in the body. Note From The Pastor Dr. Glenn E. Robertson, Sr. Pastor

Congratulations to our graduating Seniors. We wish them well as they enter the world of work and college. I am glad we were able to have the recognition service.

As a pastor I am aware there is division in society over how to respond to the Corona virus. The division is not only in society at large. It is also in the church. It divides us in how we respond to it, and how we regard one anther by how we do or don’t respond to it. I won’t dismiss the virus as if it were insignificant. It has killed people. It can kill people. I believe information will continue to shift in how this virus works and what works to stop it. Much of society’s reaction to the virus has come about because of the lack of experience with the virus. Worldwide, we lack a long history of dealing with it. This has led to many assumptions, predictions, and fears. Socially, we have been given a lot of fear regarding it. Fear should motivate us to have caution. However, we must not allow fear to force us to live isolated forever. What is most important is that we do not allow our hearts to form negative opinions about people who differ from us in how we respond to the virus. If we form an “us versus them” state, we are divided.

At this time, all eyes are on COVID. Yet, even beyond COVID there are bugs that can kill you or dangerously harm you. You do not fear them because there is not focus on them. Yet, they are real. Note from Steven:

Pastor of Youth & Family

Things of Note: John chapter 15 is a wonderful passage of scripture, with Jesus stating that He is the vine and that if we abide in Him, and He in us, that whatever we ask will be given to us. In fact, the word “abide” is used by Christ over ten times in this chapter. The word can be used to mean hang out, loiter, or remain with or in. Based on this passage of scripture, I believe the Lord has guided me to name our youth group “S.W.A.G” Youth Ministry for Students Who Abide in God. We will have t-shirts and promotional materials made with this name and all youth activities will be promoted with this brand. Students resumed meeting live last week and it has been wonderful meeting face to face! We will continue meeting each Wednesday at 6 PM and Sunday at 6 PM. As of this time, no food will be served, social distancing will be practiced, and the gym will remained closed. I am also excited to announce a fireside worship service to be held Wednesday, May 27 at the Boothe residence. Details will be announced through Remind and in person during studies. Some of the best worship experiences I have had have been by a campfire where God’s creation can be adored. I look forward to experiencing this with our S.W.A.G students. Summer camps are expected to be open, and as such we will have one final fundraiser for both Preteen and Youth students. This event will take place Sunday, June 7th and will be to-go loaded baked potato plates for a donation to summer camp. Please make sure to get your to go plate from the youth area beginning at 10 AM on the morning of June 7th. Preteen and Youth parents are needed to help prepare food, make desserts, serve food and clean up. Flyers are being mailed out with instructions on how to participate. Please contact me at 361-412-1095 with any questions or to let me know you are bringing a dessert or can help serve food. Abiding with you in Christ, Steven

The Sanctuary Choir and the Praise Band have resume rehearsals. Right now the schedule is for both

groups to practice on Wednesdays. Both rehearsals will be in the Sanctuary. The choir will practice at 7:00 and the

band at 7:30. We will take it easy at first and evaluate as we go along.

If you feel ready to get out and start practicing, come on!

CONGRATULATIONS STEVEN!

Our Youth Pastor, Steven Reece, recently finished his bachelor’s degree through Liberty University. Way to

go! We are proud of your hard work and excited about how the Lord is using you to minister to our young people.

THIS WEEK’S WORSHIP MUSIC Sunday, May 24

HE KEEPS ME SINGING (9:00 AM service only)

There’s within my heart a melody;

Jesus whispers sweet and low,

“Fear not, I am with thee, peace be still,”

In all of life’s ebb and flow.

Jesus, Jesus, Jesus,

Sweetest name I know,

Fills my ev’ry longing,

Keeps me singing as I go.

All my life was wrecked by sin and strife,

Discord filled my heart with pain,

Jesus swept across the broken strings,

Stirred the slumb’ring chords again.

Tho’ sometimes He leads thro’ waters deep,

Trials fall across the way,

Tho’ sometimes the path seems rough and steep,

See His footprints all the way. Public domain

PRAISE HIM (11:00 AM service only)

All creatures of our God and King,

All living things will praise;

From the ends of the earth

The saints will rise to sing, they’ll sing,.

From valleys low to mountains high,

From ev’ry distant shore;

The call goes out,

The people rise to sing, they’ll sing,

Praise Him, praise Him,

Let all the people praise Him,

Praise Him, praise Him,

Let all creation sing.

Worthy to receive the glory,

Honor belongs to You;

Forever, our King and Lord,

All praise belongs to You. Copyright 2010 Integrity’s Praise! Music UBP. CCLI #84489

HEAR OUR PRAISES (11:00 AM service only)

May our homes be filled with dancing,

May our streets be filled with joy;

May injustice bow to Jesus

As the people turn and pray.

From the mountain to the valley,

Hear our praises rise to you;

From the heavens to the nations,

Hear our singing fill the air.

May our light shine in the darkness

As we walk before the cross;

May Your glory fill the whole earth

As the water o’er the seas.

Hallelujah... Copyright 1998 Hillsongs Australia UBP. CCLI #84489

NO OTHER NAME (9:00 AM service only)

No other name but the name of Jesus,

No other name but the name of the Lord;

No other name but the name of Jesus

Is worthy of glory, and worthy of honor,

And worthy of power and all praise.

His name is exalted far above the earth,

His name is high above the heavens;

His name is exalted far above the earth,

Give glory and honor and praises to His name. Copyright 1988 Integrity’s Hosanna! Music ARR. ICS. UBP. CCLI #84489

STRONGER

There is love that came for us, Humbled to a sinner’s cross.

You broke my shame and sinfulness, You rose again, victorious.

Faithfulness, none can deny, Through the storm and through the fire;

There is truth that sets me free, Jesus Christ, who lives in me.

You are stronger, You are stronger, Sin is broken, You have saved me;

It is written, Christ is risen, Jesus, You are Lord of all.

No beginning and no end,

You’re my hope and my desire; You came to seek and save the lost,

You paid it all upon the cross.

So let Your name be lifted higher, Be lifted higher, be lifted higher;

So let Your name be lifted higher, Be lifted higher, be lifted higher.

MY COUNTY, ‘TIS OF THEE

My country, ‘tis of thee,

Sweet land of liberty, of thee I sing;

Land where my fathers died,

Land of the pilgrims’ pride,

From ev’ry mountainside let freedom ring!

Let music swell the breeze,

And ring from all the trees sweet freedom’s song;

Let mortal tongues awake;

Let all that breathe partake;

Let rocks their silence break, the sound prolong.

Our fathers’ God, to Thee,

Author of liberty, to Thee we sing;

Long may our land be bright

With freedom’s holy light;

Protect us by Thy might, Great God, our King! Public domain
