THE AUXILIARY BAROMETER
OCTOBER 2017 WE ARE ONE
Dear Auxiliary Members,
You may wonder if the monies we donate to the various areas in the hospital reach their designated
places. With a happy heart I can say, ‘Oh, yes they do’. Last year we donated $220,000 toward the
purchase of a 3D mammogram to aid Barton employees, volunteers, and community. The Siemans
Mammomat Inspiration 3D System will be located in the Barton Women’s Suite for Mammography,
Medical Imagine, on the first floor of the hospital. This up-to-date system offers digital breast
tomography.
We will be invited for an Open House where a plaque will be mounted and refreshments will be served
from 2:00-3:00 on a date in early 2018 to be announced. Why is this event exiting? Because the plaque
will recognize us as a principle donor with the auxiliary name engraved. Dr. Purvance, will make the
dedication. I hope to see you all at this special event.
Keep in mind we have two more luncheons this year:
November 13th at the Cantina for our election of the 2018 officers. At this time you will meet Maureen
Foryum, activity director of SNF, and Troy Mathews, director of the Foundation.
November 30th at Mont Bleu for the installation of officers by Dr. Purvance, Festival of Tree of Lights,
and Senior Stroll. Would like to see all of you at these important luncheons.
See you at the next board meeting, November 20th, breakfast/social at 9:30 meeting at 10:00.
Sincerely, Sandy Killian
Barton Memorial Hospital Auxiliary Board Meeting
October 16, 2017 BMH Board Room 10:00 - 12:00pm
The meeting was called to order by President Sandy Killian at 10:00am. The pledge to the flag was led
by Sandy Killian and the Auxiliary prayer was read by Maria Lundholm. Agenda approved as presented
by Vikki Egry/George Ramirez/passed. Minutes of 9-18-17 board meeting approved as presented Vikki
Egry/Vicki Schussel/passed. Chris Henderson abstained.
Roll Call: Voting Members Present: Sandy Killian, Vikki Egry, Margaret Anton, Maria Lundholm,
Linda Coffman, Vicki Schussel, Diane Stanley, Larry Coffman, Louise Mitchell, Pearl Parks, Chris
Henderson, George Ramirez. Quorum is present.
Officer Reports:
President: Killian provided a memo from Dr. Selwyn Lee, Chief Medical Officer complementing the
staff at Barton on a successful OB trauma incident that happened last month. She also passed out an
update from an email about the Center for Orthopedics & Wellness from Public Relations. It is on
schedule to open Winter 2018. She reminded everyone about the CAHHS convention scheduled for
February 21-22 in Newport. So far the only person interested in going from the board is Vikki Egry.
Vice President: Egry reported she is meeting with a prospective new member Bridget who is a case
manager here at the hospital. She is also following up with Carol McCauley who attended the last
luncheon. She started her membership process in 2015 but did not finish. She probably will be one of
our new members in 2018. She also is in contact with Public Relations to help with the new roster for
next year.
Treasurer: Anton shared the Treasurer’s Report showing bank balance as of September 30, 2017 at
$261,311.06. We received income from Care Wear Uniforms, Inc. in the amount of $498.01, which will
show in October. This amount is 10% of sales at the fundraiser event.
Committee Reports:
Barometer: Larry Coffman stated deadline will be 10-19-17 for Barometer submissions.
Blood Drive: George Ramirez reported on the blood drive held on 9-29. There were 63 pints of blood
donated, 8 first time donors, 9 platelets from 4 donors. Next blood drive will be 12-1-17 at the Recreation
Center.
Parliamentarian: Maria Lundholm reminded everyone that if there are any proposed changes to the By
Laws/Standing Rules these have to be completed in plenty of time to be listed in the new Roster for 2018.
Cheese balls: Pearl Parks reported that 1,200 cheese balls have been made and are stored in freezers at
the attic. 119 have already been sold and monies deposited. Public Relations will cover all of the
advertising costs except for $100.00 that was in our budget for advertising. Net profit should be around
$6,000.00.
Ways and Means: Chris Henderson reported we received a check for $498.01 from Care Wear Uniforms.
Our next fundraiser event will be Collective Goods (gift items) scheduled for November 7-8 in the
cafeteria.
Luncheon: Diane Stanley reminded everyone that the next luncheon will be at the Cantina on 11-13-17 at
11:15am. This is our annual General Membership meeting with the election. Our December luncheon
will be early on 11-30-17 at Montbleu at 12:00pm.
Guest speaker for the 11-13 luncheon will be Maureen Froyum from Skilled Nursing and Troy Matthews
from the Foundation. Dr. Purvance will attend the luncheon on 11-30-17.
Safety: George Ramirez shared an article about Dr. Kyle Swanson taking a practice ride in an F-16 as a
“Hometown Hero” recognizing his military and medical accomplishments.
Scholarships: Vikki Egry is contacting some of the recipients who have won but not made contact yet.
Committee will meet the first week of November to go over the scholarship program.
Sunshine: Louise Mitchell sent a get-well card to Mary Jolley for her recent foot surgery. The memorial
service for Dick Young will be on Sunday, October 22 at the Senior Center from 2-4pm. Everyone is
invited. Motion made by Margaret Anton/Louise Mitchell/passed to purchase a bronze leaf ($100.00) in
memory of Bonnie Clark. Motion made by George Ramirez/Diane Stanley/passed to purchase a bronze
leaf ($100.00) in memory of Evelyn Worley. Louise read a thank you letter from Troy Matthews,
Executive Director of the Foundation thanking us for the bronze leaf purchased in memory of Dick
Young.
Old Business:
Chairman of Nominating Committee, Linda Coffman, presented the slate as follows: Vikki Egry as
President, Margaret Anton as Treasurer, Linda Coffman as Recording Secretary and Maria Lundholm
as Corresponding Secretary. No person has stepped up to be Vice President. There is a good chance that
hopefully someone will be nominated from the floor at the annual General Membership meeting.
Phone tree callers will make their luncheon reminder calls for the 11-13-17 luncheon by 11-6-17. For the
11-30-17 luncheon, please make your calls by 11-20-17. This will ensure a good turnout.
New Business:
Pearl Parks made the suggestion that maybe the Auxiliary could look into applying for a grant to fund
some of the projects that we want to do in the future. Maria Lundholm made the suggestion that perhaps
we could have a “White Elephant Sale” as a fundraiser. This idea came about because we no longer have
the Holiday Faire at St. Teresa’s. Any ideas would have to be reviewed by the hospital.
Reminder the next Board Meeting will be on November 20.
