Audi Technology

Audi Drive SelectAudi Drive Select is a standard feature on the Audi A3 SE and quattro®, Audi A6, Audi A7 Sportback, Audi A8 and optional on Audi A4, Audi A5, Audi Q3, Audi Q5 and Audi Q7, which enables you to set the driving characteristics of your car to your preference. There are three settings: Comfort, for the smoothest ride; Auto, the optimum setup for prevailing driving conditions; and Dynamic, for sporty driving. If the vehicle is fitted with the optional Satellite Navigation Plus, a fourth Individual setting becomes available. This allows drivers to tune the car exactly to their needs.

TDI Performance Diesel TechnologyMinimising emissions and maximising fuel economy without sacrificing power and performance are essential to Audi Technology. With this in mind, Audi has developed TDI performance diesel technology, with its piezo injection system operating at up to 1,600 bar, delivering fuel in precise bursts for efficient combustion.

Audi connectAudi connect pools all the applications and developments designed to connect current and future Audi models with the Internet, their owners and their surroundings. This state-of-the-art technology is available in Audi A4, Audi A5, Audi A6, Audi A7 Sportback, Audi A8 and Audi Q7.

Audi connect offers features such as navigation with Google Earth and Google Street View, online weather forecasts and Audi traffic information that are sent to the vehicle via 3G. Audi connect links assistance systems with each other. In this way, Audi connect interacts with the transmission system, lights and adaptive cruise control with Stop&Go function or adaptive light, even with the navigation system deactivated. Audi connect is only available with the optional Audi MMI Navigation plus system.

S/SE/quattro®S, SE and quattro® are new equipment lines that replace Attraction, Ambition and Ambiente, respectively. These lines were introduced with the Audi A4 range and will filter through to all the models as new models are introduced. The S, SE and quattro® lines take into consideration customer feedback and reduce the current complexity of the Audi range while meeting and exceeding expectations.

Audi Multi Media InterfaceAudi’s Multi Media Interface (MMI) is an integral operating concept for fitted vehicle and infotainment components. The MMI control knob in the centre console links to a high-mounted MMI display in the dash and controls entertainment, communication, information, and vehicle systems in a simple and intuitive manner via the single main knob and the eight function keys grouped around it. The new generation MMI touch system will be available in the new Audi A3, Audi A7 Sportback and Audi A8 ranges. With the integration of the MMI touch the user is given a new and unique way of operating the MMI Navigation Plus with ease, without needing to divert their eyes from the road ahead. It supports handwritten inputs of letters and digits, for ease of entering phone numbers or navigation destinations.

LED Daytime Running LightsA striking new design feature which is now a signature look for Audi, daytime running lights in combination with Xenon headlights not only provide a dramatic road presence, but also enhance road safety by increasing the visibility of your Audi to other road users. Available as an option on the latest models, they are standard on the Audi S3 range, Audi S4, Audi A5 and Audi S5 Coupé, Audi A5 and S5 Cabriolet, Audi A5 and S5 Sportback, Audi Q5 3.0 TDI and 3.0T FSI®, Audi Q7 4.2 FSI®, Audi TT RS, Audi RS 4, Audi RS 5 and Audi R8 models. Full LED headlights are also available on the Audi A8 and as standard on the Audi R8 range.

Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound SystemThe legendary Danish audio specialists, Bang and Olufsen, have finally found the perfect automotive marque and models to match their world-class expertise. The Bang and Olufsen Advanced Sound System is a result of their exclusive partnership with Audi – and perfectly attuned to the Audi luxurious interior, creating a sensational listening experience throughout. The Advanced Sound System is available on the Audi A3, Audi A4 range, Audi A5 range, Audi A6, Audi A7 Sportback, Audi A8 range, Audi Q5 range, Audi Q7 range, and Audi R8 range.

Audi quattro® Permanent All-Wheel DriveAudi are pioneers in four-wheel drive technology by being the creators of quattro® permanent all-wheel drive - a system that delivers superb handling and traction, while giving extra security and stability on wet or low-grip surfaces. The latest models feature 40/60 percent distribution of power front to rear for optimum handling, while asymetric/dynamic torque distribution to all wheels enables optimum safety by automatically adjusting to variations in grip within a fraction of a second. Audi is presenting a new, evolutionary stage of its permanent all-wheel drive system for longitudinal engines in the high-performance RS 5 Coupé – the quattro® drive with self-locking crown gear differential and torque vectoring. With an extremely broad torque distribution range, the crown-gear centre differential surpasses its predecessors with grip that becomes even better.

Audi Start/stop SystemEfficiency comes standard in every Audi, and our Start/stop system is an example of this. A standard feature on the Audi A1, Audi A3, Audi A3 Sportback, Audi Q3, Audi A7 Sportback range, Audi A4, Audi A5 and selected Audi Q5 models at no additional cost, this innovative system is the first of its kind in the premium car segment in South Africa. When your vehicle comes to a stop, you put the gear lever into neutral and remove your foot from the clutch pedal. The engine will switch off automatically, and an indicator light will illuminate in the display. When you are ready to drive off, simply press the clutch pedal and the engine will restart. All you have to do is select first gear and release the clutch. The Start/stop system lowers fuel consumption by 0.2 litres per 100km and reduces CO2 emissions by around 5g/km. A class-leading innovation from Audi that will save a lot in the long run, so you and the environment can breathe easy.

Audi Side AssistOptional Audi Side Assist monitors the area behind the car using radar sensors located in the rear bumper – and warns you via a visual signal mounted in the door mirror if there is a vehicle approaching in your blind spot.

The most exclusive model in Audi’s new A8 line, the A8 L Security is an iron fist inside a velvet glove. The supreme protection vehicle features a choice of two high-end engines – the 4.0 TFSI and W12 FSI, complimented by adaptive air suspension and forged 19-inch wheels as standard. The A8 L Security is built with extremely tough, highly resistant materials like heat-formed armour steel, aramide fabric, ceramic, and multi-laminated glass for maximum security. In 1977, Audi engineers travelled to Finland, to test new developments under extreme conditions. One of the test vehicles was a 55kW four-wheel drive off-road vehicle. The driver was certain his colleagues would out run him in the heavy snow and ice, but the small four-wheel drive pulled away from the group with astonishing ease.

This revelation would forever change the face of Audi and the automotive industry as a whole.

Introducing quattro® GmbH, a one-hundred percent subsidiary of Audi AG and manufacturer of Audi’s performance range. quattro® GmbH was established in 1983 as a one-hundred percent subsidiary of AUDI AG. Its first task was the marketing of accessories and then it began individualizing cars in 1995. In 1996 it established itself as the manufacturer of Audi’s high- performance models. Customer motorsport added a further business division in 2011. Today, the company employs 790 people at the Neckarsulm and Ingolstadt plants.
