F.Y. 2013-14STATEMENT - XV
1. Significant accounting policies i. Basis of preparation of financial statements The balance sheet and income and expenditure accounts are prepared under the historical cost convention
and on the accrual basis of accounting. In the absence of any authoritatively established accounting principles for the specialised aspects related to charitable trusts, which do not carry out any commercial activity, these statements have been prepared in accordance with the significant accounting policies as described below.
ii. Use of estimates The preparation of the financial statements in conformity with the significantaccounting policies requires
that the Trustees of the Trust (‘Trustees’) makeestimates and assumptions that affect the reported amounts of income andexpenditure for the year and reported balances of assets and liabilities. Actualresults could differ from those estimates. Any revision to accounting estimates isrecognised prospectively in current and future periods. All amounts are stated inIndian rupees, except as otherwise stated.
iii. Fixed assets Fixed assets are stated at cost of acquisition, including any attributable cost for bringing the asset to its working
condition for its intended use, less accumulated depreciation. Depreciation is charged on Fixed Assets on Written Down Value basis at the rates specified by the The Income
Tax Act, 1961 iv. Income tax The Trust is registered under Section 12A of the Income tax Act, 1961 (‘the Act’).Under the provisions of the
Act, the income of the Trust is exempted from tax, subject to the compliance of specific terms and conditions specified in the Act.
v. Provision and contingencies The provision is recognised when, as a result of obligating events, there is a presentobligation that probably
requires an outflow of resources and a reliable estimate canbe made of the amount of obligation. The disclosure of contingent liability is made when, as a result of obligating events, there is a possible obligation or a present obligation that may, but probably will not, require an outflow of resources. No provision or disclosure is made when, as a result of obligating events, there is apossible obligation or a present obligation where the likelihood of an outflow ofresources is remote.
vi. Revenue Recognition Revenue is recognized on Mercantile basis except for Royalty income, APICON contribution, contributions for
the objects of the trust (other than members) and Contribution received from ICP Dean which are accounted for on cash basis.
vii. Accounting for Investment: Deposits with banks/investments are shown under the head “Investments” and is valued at cost. viii. Amount spent from individual earmarked fund in excess of relevant fund income is charged to Income &
expenditure A/c.2. Notes to Accounts i. Income Tax refund for prior periods is yet not completed by the department , The Board of Trustees has
decided to take necessary action to claim the refund dues on this accounts & hence TDS deducted is considered recoverable. Further, the department has raised demand of Rs.43,46,861/- for A.Y. 2011-12. However, the Trust believes that the same is not payable and accordingly no provision is done in the books and has preferred appeal against the same.
ii. Balances of debtors, creditors, deposits with banks and loans & advances are subject to confirmations & subsequent adjustment for reconciliations.
iii. Provision for contribution to charity commissioner is not provided for by the trust as the trust is exclusively involved in advancement of secular education as per Section 58. Further, As per the Bombay High Court Order passed on 25th September, 2009, the Charity Commissioner’s office has been restrained from collecting administrative funds from charitable trusts across Maharashtra The Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950.
