This is the second edition of our newsletter before you. The Association of Colorectal Surgeons of India ( ACRSI) has progressed rapidly during the last 2 years. The Directory and Website have been updated which was a long awaited marathon job to be done due to untiring efforts by our dynamic secretary Dr Niranjan. We have been continuously informing all members regarding conferences and updates regularly. Our journal is under process of being published before september and I request all members to contribute in a big way by sending articles for the same. ( Avoid single case reports.) Our membership strength has gone up and ACRSI family is now reaching 1600 members. Our Fellowship training programmes and examination have gained immense popularity not in India alone but also in our neighbouring countries too. It is duty of all members and executive committee to make this chapter most vibrant and academically strong. Looking forward to your support in this regard and suggestions are welcome. By the time you receive this newsletter the election process would have been started and I am sure all of you would be aware about the same, thanks to our new sms service, new website and corrected data emails Many could not participate in the process last time due to incorrect data but now I am sure the festival of democracy will be celebrated with much more pomps and pleasure due to the renewed data now available on website too.. Newsletter such as this are being now sent regularly both by post as well as emails .Our accounts are all streamlined and submitted to ASI within the stipulated time. All past pending dues have been cleared now .We now have a fix office for 6 years at Mumbai for matter of continuity of the office work. Our courses and the Fellowship exams have become repopular to the extent of attracting many overseas delegates too . Similarly our conferences are seeing new heights not only from scientific content but delegate participation too. Our last conference in Mumbai conducted in conjunction with ISUCRS and ISPFD witnessed a huge delegation both nationally as well as internationally touching an all time high of 800 plus another 100 accompanying persons . We had the proud privilege of bestowing the Life Time Achievement Award this year to none other than one of the most dedicated colorectal surgeon amongst us and you are guessing it right - its Dr Mayilvaganan. Our International Traveling Fellowships are now alloted by marking system to make it completely transparent .Orations during the conference are also being decided on basis of application and contributions to the field of colorectal surgery.Masterclass to discuss a subject thread bare will now be a permanent feature of our annual conference. We are introducing the "ACRSI Abbott Excellence Award" for delegates presenting free papers, posters and videos during our annual conf to boost academic presentations from our members .The ACRSI journal will soon see the sun again, an another step to boost our academics. Zonal CMEs are being encouraged by the Vice Presidents and zonal executive members to take the academics to grass root levels . Reports of CMEs at Mumbai and Ranchi are already presented in this newsletter and soon Kolkata and Solapur CMEs will be conducted this month itself. .The annual conference at Coimbatore during September 2017 promises to be a mega scientific feast with Dr Palanivelu at its helm of affairs.May I request you all to register in large nos to be part of this mega event..The next course and exam will be held during April 2018 at Aurangabad under the able guidance of Dr Pravin Suryavanshi and Dr Atul Deshpande. As I pen down my last message as Hon Secretary of our august association for the term 2015 2017, I have mixed feelings of gratification and complacency. ACRSICON / ISUCRS / ISPFD In MumbaiThe 27th Biennial Congress of The International Society of University Colon & Rectal Surgeons ISUCRS was held jointly with the 39th Annual Conference of the Association of Colon & Rectal Surgeons of India ACRSI & 2nd Congress of the International Society of Pelvic Floor Disorders (ISPFD) at Mumbai India from September 23-25, 2016. This is was the first time that an international joint meeting of three societies related to colorectal disorders was held in India.

More than 800 delegates along with 150 faculty and nearly 100 accompanying persons attended the meeting. Representative from more than 33 countries across the globe deliberated on the latest advances in the field of coloproctology. The conference witnessed the presence of who's who in the field of coloproctology globally.

The Highlights of the program included:

• Over 2 days, live operative surgery was televised to the venue from two different hospitals in Mumbai

• Master videos sessions during the workshops

• Day three was dedicated to disease of the pelvic floor

• In all 7 orations were delivered

• Dedicated key note lectures, symposiums, panel discussions, debates wereheld with high scientific content which was appreciated and applauded by all.

• More than 21 free papers, 12 Best paper and 50 Videos/posters were presented.

• The response to the concept of pre-conference master class on 22nd September, on the most common disorders piles and fistula-in ano was amazing and nearly 400 delegates deliberated during the sessions

• The inaugural function of the Congress was combined with the Fellowship convocation ceremony of the Indian society which added the much needed glamour to the event .16 Indian surgeons were conferred the fellowship.

• A senior past president of ACRSI Dr KS Mayilvaganan was conferred the most prestigious Life Time Achievement award of the Indian section.

The fellowship examination of the ACRSI was held in JLN Medical Collegeth thAjmer on 8 and 9 of April 2017. The followingpanel of examiners conducted

the exam.

1. Prof. B.K.Rao2. Prof. Kum Kum Singh3. Prof. N.A Chowdri4. Prof. Ashok Kumar5. Prof.Pradeep Sharma.44 candidates had applied for the examination. Out of which one candidate was

not found eligible as he had not attended any ACRSICON. One candidate who

had cleared part-I already in the previous exam and appeared only for part-II

and part-III. Out of the candidates who appeared for the exam, two candidates

couldn't clear part I. Therefore only 41 candidates appeared for Part-II & III. All

the 41 candidates who appeared were declared successful in both part-II & III

East Zonal Conference of Association of Colon and Rectal Surgeons of India (ACRSI) was organized in Ranchi on th th4 and 5 March 2017

Venue of Conference was Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) which is premier Academic Institute of

Jharkhand

It was attended by around 150 delegates from Jharkhnad Bihar and Odisa including about 50 Postgaduates and

Residents

Pathak JabalpurthOn 4 a workshop was organized which included Haemorrhoids, Fistula, Prolapse, Colonoscopy.

In Didactic lectures variety of topics were covered which included Pilonidal Sinus, Rectal and Pelvic Prolapse,

Sympoium and Haemorrhoids, Fistula mamngement, Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery etc. Free papers were

Report of 21st Fellowship Course1. 21st Fellowship was held on 3-7 April 2017 at J.L.N. medical college Ajmer.2. 61 delegate registered for course 7 were from Bangladesh 3. Total faculty were 70 (Local 13+ national 51 participated+2 international)4. Hands on workshop was held on 5th April comanies Meril, J&J, Covidein

participated, Endotrainer, 8 Rectal Module, Wet Lab and all stapleres were demonstrated. Demo of MIPH done by Dr. Manish Joshi.

5. 43 students took the exam, 2 students could not clear part I , Rest all were successful.

• The presence of three senior doyens of the Indian society and their felicitation at the function turned it nostalgic for many. All the halls for the scientific activities were named after Dr PN Joshi, Dr HG Doctor, Late Dr PK Jhawer, Late Dr RB Singh, Late Dr RK Menda and Dr Indru Khubchandani the Indian doyens in the colorectal society as mark of respect for their contribution to the field of coloproctology.

• The gala banquet night very aptly show cased the diverse Indian culture and hospitality.

The Congress happened to be the most attended so far amongst all the

ISURCS Congress.
