introducing

THE ARTISANS CUP

An event celebrating the beauty of time and the balance of nature.

THE ARTISANS CUP IS THE LEADING

EXPRESSION OF AMERICAN BONSAI,

SHOWCASING THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF

CRAFTSMANSHIP AND SKILL IN AN

EXPERIMENTAL ENVIRONMENT THAT

WILL ENGAGE AND INSPIRE.

The event will celebrate Bonsai as a powerful

collaboration between humans and nature.

It will recognize those who are humbly and

diligently pursuing ever-higher levels of

craftsmanship and skill, and it will attract and

inspire a new generation of Bonsai enthusiasts.

Debuting in Portland, Oregon in Fall 2015, The Artisans Cup will feature exceptional tree submissions from Bonsai curators

and caretakers from the United States and Canada, as well as creations from some of America’s foremost artisans.

PURPOSEFUL ENDEAVOR

1

The primary goal of The Artisans Cup is to firmly secure a place for bonsai in the global art canon.

2

Secondarily, we hope to celebrate exceptional and innovative talent within American Bonsai.

3

Third, we hope to encourage a new generation of Bonsai enthusiasts, attracting those who may be

experiencing Bonsai for the first time.

IT ’S ALL IN THE DETAILS

THE TREES

The Artisans Cup will feature up to 100 trees. Submissions will be open to anyone meeting the event’s criteria, and will be evaluated by a selection jury of Bonsai experts. If accepted for display at the event, trees will be entered into competition for

the title of Artisans Cup-winning tree. Trees will be judged by a panel of 5 world-renowned Bonsai professionals, with the top three

trees being awarded $10,000, $5,000, and $3,000 respectively.

INTEGRAL TO ANY WELL-EXECUTED

BONSAI IS THE TOOLS AND MATERIALS

USED TO CULTIVATE THE TREE, AND

THE CERAMICS AND WOODWORK USED

TO HOUSE AND DISPLAY IT.

THE CRAFT

The Artisans Cup will feature the work of those who are creating these items, both in the tree displays themselves and in dedicated vendor
