Nutritional emulsifiers

Energy in pig and broiler diets is a costly

factor. Products that can improve the

energy availability in these diets can re-

duce feed cost significantly.

Volamel Extra, is a water-soluble nutri-

tional emulsifier that acts synergistically

with the animals’ own bile salts. Bile salt

production by the liver is lacking com-

promising fat and total feed digestibility.

Nukamel’s nutritional emulsifiers com-

pensate this deficiency and improve fat

and feed digestibility. In this way, Vol-

amel Extra can reduce the energy cost

of the diet.

Volamel Extra: the energy solution.

Nukamel also developed an emulsi-

fier called Volamel MG. This concept is

based on mono glycerides of butter oil.

These molecules lower the pathogenic

pressure and are an energy source.

Emulsizym®; Nukamel’s technology to

replace antimicrobial growth promoters.

Emulsizym® combines the following ele-

ments:

• The antibacterial properties of short

and medium chained fatty acids from

butter oil.

• Bioactive peptides derived from fer-

mentation.

• Nutritional emulsifiers to increase the

solubility and digestibility of fats.

Nukamel was the first company ever to develop milkreplacers.

Nukamel produces soluble milkreplacers for all suckling animals fulfilling the animals’

nutritional requirements. Products can be used in all feeding systems, such as

automatic feeders and bucket feeding. Based on research in our calf trial facilities

Nukamel, continuously optimises composition and all other relevant parameters such

as solubility, structure, taste and smell, etc…

Functional feed

Milk proteins provide a rich source of bioactive peptides which

are not active until released, e.g. during gastro intestinal di-

gestion or fermentation. Our Functional Feed product range is

based on fermentation. The fermented, pre-digested, raw mate-

rials are absorbed rapidly. In addition, this fermentation releases

bioactive peptides and lactic acid. Both substances have spe-

cific antibacterial properties that protect the gut and stimulate

growth.

Butterfat is another element in this product line, together with

an excellent taste, its medium chain fatty acids have strong an-

tibacterial benefits.

The Functional Feed product range is designed to improve the

growth and health of young animals. The Functional Feed prod-

ucts are therefore key raw materials in our soluble milk replac-

ers.

Fermentation

The raw materials are fermented to enhance their nutritional value in our functional

feeds.

• ‘Hidden’ peptides are released that stimulate growth and kill bacteria.

• Lactic acid is formed that reduces the pH and buffering.

• The protein is ‘pre-digested’ and therefore faster absorbed.

Spray Drying

The dairy/fat solution is sprayed in hot air that evaporates the water.

• Improved flowability.

• Fine powder.

• Strict process control, preventing heat damage.

Spray Cooling

The highly emulsified fat is sprayed in a whirl wind of powder and crystallises on the

outside.

Research & Development

The dairy industry is a fast moving world. Science reveals more and more beneficial compo-

nents of dairy products. This knowledge is very useful to improve feed quality but also has

a down side. In the past our raw materials were very consistent by products of the cheese

and butter production process. But today some beneficial components are removed by the

processing plants. Our R&D department understands these components and the processes

in the dairy industry and how to maximise the value of dairy products for the feed industry.

We use hidden beneficial factors from the milk that improve the nutritional effect in our Func-

tional Feed product range.
