Annexure – i (Best Practice)
1. Title of the Practice: Environmental and Cleanliness Issues
i. Cleanliness drive is undertaken by the NSS intermittently in the college campus which has been
instrumental in inculcating a sense of cleanliness in to the minds of the students.
ii. Cultivating environmental awareness through greenery, storage of ground water and rain water
and making the Campus free from smoking, plastic goods and garbage. Successful plantation
including fruits trees in campus and in hostel areas. Introduction of online students’ feedback,
using college intranet facilities.
2. Goal
i. To strictly follow the principle of gender equality and gender discrimination in any form is
prohibited
ii. To maintain an eco-friendly and healthy environment within the campus.
iii. To instil the habit of protecting environment among the students so that they can practise the
same at their home/village.
iv. To cultivate the habit of social responsibility and a sense of sociality among the students.
v. To cultivate awareness of environmental degradation and pollution.
vi. To produce self-sufficient educated social animal.
3. The Context
Campus users were unaware of the indiscriminate use of the plastics and carry bags even few years
back. A huge campaigning process was undertaken by the college to spread the awareness of plastic
free campus among the students and staff of the college. In addition, due to the geographical
position of the college, there is scarcity of water in the campus and also level of ground water is
very low. Proper measures have been taken to store the rain water for summer season when the
weather is extremely dry and hot. The reservoirs were constructed and utilized for storage of water
and gardening.
4. The Practice
The college is taking primarily utmost care to make the campus plastic free. Use of paper cups and
plates in college canteen area and also in any college functions has been made mandatory.
Installation of garbage buckets in different locations in the campus has been successfully done. The
college authority with the help of NSS volunteers maintains the gardens of the campus and keeps
the entire campus clean by regular exercise. By planting a sufficient number of trees in the campus a
favorable atmosphere has been established. One big pond has been cleaned and sufficient supply of
water has been ensured through proper leveling of the ground. One skilled gardener have been
appointed for the same purpose. Because of the practice we have been able to keep our campus
green round the year. We are proud to be associated with Sachwa Bharat Mission.
5. Evidence of Success
The following photographs are self-explanatory in support of our success. The photographs were
taken during summer time when the temperature was almost 46 degree Celsius, still we are able to
keep the campus green.
Jagannath Kishore College, Purulia- AQAR 2016-2017 Page 25
6. Problems Encountered and Resources Required
i. Lack of awareness in the family background of the campus users,
ii. Stony nature of soil makes it extremely difficult to make water reservoirs to store
water for summer.
iii. Sufficient fund.

Annexure – ii (Best Practice)
1. Title of the Practice:
Upliftment of the educational, cultural and economic condition of the poor, marginalized and
backward population of the area. Reduction of power consumption by the students through
awareness programme.
2. Goal
i. To develop the educational, cultural and economic condition of the poor and backward
people of the area.
ii. To develop the personality of the students through community service.
iii. To inculcate the social responsibility among the students.
3. The Context
There is a number of backward areas nearby the college with a large number of population
consisting primarily of unorganized labours such as rickshaw pullers, hawkers etc. There is lack
of awareness about the benefit of education among those people. There is a problem of
consumption of alcohol in this class of people and subsequently there are cases of domestic
violence against women.
4. The Practice
To help their children’s in education, NSS volunteers of the college teach them regularly with
educational tools like charts etc. For this reason students of the college take the trouble of
travelling even to the most interior parts of the district like Ajodhya Hill. We encourage the
practice of local traditional culture like Chhou dance in our students. The college has its own
chhou dance team of students. We often organize lecture workshops in the college to discuss
the economic and the educational issues related to the backward class of the society. To reduce
the crime against women and to address the other legal issues a Students’ Legal Literacy Club
has been established. We regularly organize Value Education Programme in association with
the Ramakrishna Mission Vidhyapith, Purulia.

5. Evidence of Success
The following photographs are self-explanatory in support of our success.
6. Problems Encountered and Resources Required
i. Lack of awareness of bad effects of alcohol consumption, both physical and economical.
ii. Child education problem
iii. Lack of health awareness
iv. Lack of cognizance of proper sanitation system for maintaining good health, good
locality and in a broader way Swachha Bharat.
Requirements: Participation of skilled persons like doctors, teachers of primary schools is highly
required. College needs some mobile display units like mobile projectors for practical
demonstration in target field areas (remote villages).
