The Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) of the IQAC Name of the Institution: Rajarshi Shahu Mahavidyalaya, Latur - 413 512 (Maharashtra) Year of report: 2010-11 Part - A: The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the year towards quality enhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the year: In the quality advisory committee (QAC) meeting held on 20.04.2010, teaching, non teaching and management members with outside advisors unanimously decided to implement different merged schemes sanctioned by UGC under XI th plan and continue the existing schemes. i) It was decided to start Day care centre and Career counseling cell under UGC XIth plan ii) It was decided to start the Certificate course on plant tissue culture. iii) Remedial coaching scheme for entry into services for SC/ST and minorities student be continued iv) QAC also stressed on the implementation of suggestions made by NAAC, RAR Peer Team particularly in Teaching, learning and Evaluation. v) It was also decided that all computers should be connected in a network vi) It was decided that each department should prepare a value added course vii) It was also decided to send the final Report of CPE II nd phase - I st Term report to UGC and submit new proposal of Rs. 50 Lakh for continuation of CPE II nd phase II nd term to UGC. viii) It was also decided to organize National conferences /workshops/ Seminars in the subjects of Mathematics, Zoology and fishery Science, English, Economics, and Sanskrit, ix) A workshop on Capacity building of Women Managers in higher education (Sensitivity awareness and Motivation ) was decided to organize for which proposal has already submitted to UGC. 1

    Part - A: The plan of action chalked out by the IQAC in the beginning of the

    year towards quality enhancement and the outcome achieved by the end of the

    year:

    In the quality advisory committee (QAC) meeting held on 20.04.2010,

  • x) QAC suggested sending the proposals to UGC for enrichment of sports

    facility.

    xi) It was suggested for making collaborations/ MOU’s with foreign University/

    Institutes / Colleges in order to open International avenues.

    We are happy to note that we could start the day care centre, career counseling

    centre and certificate course in plant tissue culture as decided in IQAC meeting.

    As decided we have implemented suggestions made by NAAC-RAR Peer

    team with respect to teaching, learning and evaluation in a right spirit. At the same

    time we have also connected all computers in a network, submitted the proposals for

    value added courses of four departments.

    In the month of December 2010, a final report of CPE Scheme was prepared

    and sent to UGC, New Delhi. Also a proposal for continuation of CPE in IInd phase.

    IInd term was drafted and presented before expert committee of UGC on 30 th March

    2011. We are happy to note that UGC has considered our CPE proposal and

    sanctioned Rs. 50 Lakh in the XIth plan period for development of earlier star and

    beneficiary departments.

    We are glad to inform that, we have received sanction for arranging Six

    National conferences from UGC WRO New Delhi. Out of these five national

    conferences were organized successfully. They are

    i) National Conference on English Language today. (27-28-29 Dec 2010)

    ii) National seminar on Advances in Complication Mathematics (23-24 Feb

    2011)

    iii) National Conference on Recent trends in Evolutionary biology. (23-24 Feb

    2011)

    iv) National Seminar on Impact of Sanskrit on Hindi, Marathi, and English

    Language (25-26 Feb 2011)

    v) State level conference on “Privatization, liberalization and globalization

    (25-26 Feb 2011)

    In the month of August, College has conducted a workshop on “Capacity

    Building of Women Managers in Higher Education in Which 50 participants from

    Marathwada Region was benefited.

    A proposal of Rs. 70 Lakhs for swimming pool and of Rs. 70.00 Lakhs for

    Indoor sports facility centre is submitted to UGC WRO Pune.

  • As a step towards MOUs with foreign University College has interacted Lillie-

    I University, France University of Illinois, Chicago (U.S.) and Community college,

    Chicago. In response to our efforts the Director of student’s Divisions (International)

    of Lillie- I university visited and interacted our staff/ students on 5 April 2011 and

    showed inclination for MOU.

    To strengthen the efforts of making MOUs our Sanstha President Dr. G. V.

    Patil and Ex principal, A. S. Jadhav visited the U.S. Universities.

    Part – ‘B’

    1. Activities reflecting goals and objectives of the institution:

    Pursuit of Excellence is the mission of our institution. We, strictly adhere to

    transparency in the conduct of examinations and in financial matters. . Our college

    has completely banned private coaching by our teachers, so that they can devote all

    their energy for the development of the college. It is a matter of pride for all of us that

    in our college, selection of teachers is done on the basis of merit alone. Every year

    one degree college teacher, one junior college teacher and one non- teaching staff

    member is honoured by the management with “Shahu Bhushan” award. This is a

    glorious tradition followed by us In order to develop overall personality of the

    students, we regularly arrange Shahu Lecture series on socially relevant subjects.

    In the academic year 2008-09 college has created orphan fund amounting to

    Rs 11 Lakh in honour of our retired Principal Dr. R. L. Kavle and a fund in the name

    of Adv. Narayanraoji Patil, Secretary of the Management for rural background

    students amounting to Rs .12000 per year . All the expenses of four orphan students

    and 12 rural students were borne by the college in this academic year.

    We have collected Rs16 Lakh under Earn and Learn scheme from alumni and

    well wishers of our former Principal A.S. Jadhav and the scheme is run under his

    name. Nearly 60 needy students take benefit of this scheme every year. In addition to

    these schemes, fee concessions are given as and when it is found necessary.

    A set of special study material is given to meritorious students. We also run

    coaching classes for various Competitive examinations under “Shahu Prabodhini” In

    collaboration with an NGO “Flight Cadet Prasad Shendge Memorial Trust” lectures of

    Army Personnel are arranged every year. As part of community services, we organize

    through NSS, NCC units, Vivek Vahini, Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti and students

    associations, various socially useful activities such as blood donation, tree plantation,

  • rural cleanliness drive, health and hygiene in rural areas and in the slums of Latur

    township.

    For the welfare of the employees, we have Employees Co-operative Credit

    Society which gives loans on concessional rate. An Employees’ Welfare Fund is also

    in operation.

    We regularly organize blood donation camps in collaboration with

    Bhalchandra Blood bank and Govt Civil Hospital through our various students

    associations and support units.

    2. New academic Programmes initiated (UG & PG) :

    A certificate course on plant tissue culture has been successes fully started and

    a proposal to start an additional division of M.Sc. biotech has been submitted to state

    government.

    An additional division for B.Sc on Non grant basis hags been started. C.A

    foundation course (CA-CPT) for college students has been started .

    University.

    Dept of Photonics offers a project based practical paper/ course at Sem. IV in

    which students work in industry for 75-90 days and submit project report for

    430 marks.

    Practical.

    surveys based on syllabus have been organized

    Dept of Economics organised educational tour for P G Students.

    Dept of Pol. Science arranged a study tour of U G students at Kapildhara, Dist.

    Beed

    A field visit was organised by Dept of Geography for B.A. and M.A. students

    at Sanjivani Bet and Katpur Dist. Latur respectively. Also a study tour was

    organised by Dept of Geography for M.A. students North India.

    Dept of History organised a study tour at Kapildhar Dist. Beed (18 Sept 2010),

    in it, 80 students and 2 teachers. Also a visit to Ter and Ramling.

    (23 Jan 2011) by dept of History was arranged for BA III students.

    Dept. of Sanskrit organised a visit to Vishwa Sanskrit Pustak Melava at

    Bengaluru ( 07.01.2011 to 13.01.2011) along with 10 students and three staff

    members.

    Dept of Biotechnology organised visits to Gopal Milk Dairy, Tinna Oil Mills,

    Meriadian Acqa, Maharashtra Oils, and Nan Gas Agency at Latur

    Dept of Botany organised a long excursion at Regional fruit Research station

    Vengurla, Panji, Goa ( 09.11.2010 to 15.11.2010 ) . Also a short excursion at

    Sanjivani Bet, Wadval Naganath was arranged (26.09.2010) and at other

    places on 03-03-11.

    Dept of Zoology and fishery science has organized a study tour to National

    Institute of Oceanography GOA.

    Dept of Chemistry organized an Industrial tour to local MIDC, Latur

    Dept of IT organized a study tour at VIIIT and C-DAC Pune and also to

    Baramati

    In addition to above activities we follow the following regular schedule

    Annual Teaching Plan: At the beginning of the academic year AnnualTeaching Plan is submitted by every teacher for the subject(s) taughtby him/her.

    (i) Daily Teaching Report: Daily Teaching Report is maintained by the teachers intheir academic diary provided by the college to every teacher.

  • (ii) Monthly Teaching Report : At the end of every month, the daily teaching reportmaintained by the teacher is verified by the Vice Principal of concerned faculty.

    (iii) Attendance: Attendance of students is recorded daily in the attendance book andthe names of students whose attendance is below 75 % are submitted at the endof every month to the Vice Principal for necessary action.

    (iv) Term Tests : Term Tests were conducted during the first term (before Dipawali)and in the second Term on the basis of the syllabus completed during the saidterm(s)

    (v) Seminars: Seminars of P.G. students (M. Com) were arranged at the end ofevery semester and the performance of the students was evaluated by theconcerned teachers.

    (vi) Pre annual Examination: Pre annual examination

    was conducted and meritorious students were given cash prizes. A set of text

    books for the entire year is given to the students based on their result to

    meritorious students. Results were analyzed at coordination meetings. Cash

    Prizes were given to toppers in the examination. Attendance Reports and test

    marks were sent every month to student’s parents through office.

    In addition to this, Blood Donation Camp, Elocution Competition, Rangoli

    Competition, Handwriting Competition were organized.

    At the beginning of academic year, last year’s results are analyzed in the

    coordination committee meeting. Finalization of subject combinations is also

    done in this meeting

    Assessment of Teachers by students is done at the end of every year through

    response sheets and action is taken accordingly. Monthly feedback regarding

    teaching and syllabus completion is taken and corrective measures are adopted.

    4 Interdisciplinary programmers started :

    As per our university academic programme, our final year UG students study a theory

    and a project paper on environmental science.

    5. Examination reforms implemented:

    University introduced semester pattern for UG Second year, where in Internal

    Evaluation for 20 Marks per paper is compulsory. For this evaluation college has

    evolved a mechanism in which more weightage is given to the attendance along with

    tutorial, unit test and seminars as per university norms.

  • For Final year UG students term wise two tests and one Pre-Annual Examinations in

    the month of February for non semester courses and pre semester exams for semester

    courses are conducted as per university exam pattern. Absent students are penalized

    while meritorious students are rewarded with cash prizes in these exams.

    In the beginning of the academic year, a meeting of staff members is arranged

    in which, on the basis of previous year result analysis, the students with better

    academic prospects are identified in each subject and are given special attention

    towards their progress throughout the academic year. The reasons for poor

    performance are also identified and rectification measures are chalked out. A monthly

    attendance report and term wise test results are communicated to parents.

    6. Candidates qualified NET/SLET/GATE:

    Prof. Gaurav Jevlikar qualified NET Exam in Public Administration

    Miss Jyoti Mandge (Former student of M.A. Sanskrit ) qualified SET

    in Sanskrit.

    Prof. N. D. Deshmukh Faculty in Biotech qualified NET in

    Microbiology.

    7. Initiative towards faculty Development programme:

    Prof. D. G. Palke (Chemistry) and Prof Anuja Jadhav (English ) applied to

    UGC for FDP in XI the plan. The committee visited the college and interacted with

    the two aspirants and permission has been granted .

    ROM, & Videos. Internet access is therefore provided to meet the

    educational and information needs of the staff and students of our

    college.

    ix) Xerox facility: There is a Xerox machine in the library, which is used

    for the photocopying of college documents, question papers & research

    material of concerned staff. This facility is also made available to the

    students.

    x) Our library provides all literary services through SOUL Software from

    the Academic year 2006-2007. For circulation service we are using

    Bar Code Technology.

    23 Courses in which student assessment of teachers is introduced and the

    action taken on student feedback:

    The teachers of each subject are assessed by the students in given feedback

    format. In every month the Principal and the coordinator go to each class and interact

    with students. Students are asked about syllabus position, teaching complaints,

    laboratory complaints, etc. Constructive Suggestions from the students are taken in to

    account and corrective and disciplinary measures are taken on the adverse remarks on

    teaching from time to time .

    At the end of the academic year feedback on teaching from the students is

    sought in written format. Coordinator along with the Principal analyzes the feedback

    reports and necessary suggestions are given to concerned teacher(s) .

    Our college office is fully equipped with office automation software. All thecomputers in our college office are connected through LAN. Issue of fee receipts,scholarships to students are processed through the computerized PRN- mechanismand office automation software.

    28 Computer and Internet access and training to teachers and students:

    E- Learning lab is open for staff and student from 8.00 am to 5.00 p.m on

    working days. In this lab there are 60 computers with internet facility. One teacher

    looks after this lab and he give the training to students and staff for access of Internet.

  • In this year 280 staff members and 8707 students visited lab and took the benefit of

    Internet facility.

    Under UGCs equal opportunity centre scheme training for sixty students on Tally,

    DTP and C+ + courses has been imparted.

    We have provided broad band internet access to all the Departments. This

    facility is provided free of cost. In addition to this, other departments viz. Library,

    Commerce Lab, IT centre are also provided with adequate nodes with broadband

    internet connectivity.

    30. Support form Alumni Association:

    Every year new members are added to our alumni association as all pass out

    UG / PG students are registered as members. This helps us to generate internal

    resources, which we use for the developmental work. Under this association

    collegege has collected Rs. 65,382 as internal resource.

    31. Support form parent Teacher Association and its activities:

    A common meeting of parents in the beginning of academic year/ at least once

    in the academic year is organized in which issues relevant to students’ difficulties are

    taken for discussion.

    32. Health services:

    Health center cares the student and staff. On every Wednesday and Saturday,

    the appointed doctor checks up the ill students / staff and treats primarily. In case of

    major problems we seek help from the clinics which are situated very close to our

    college run by our students. Some of our management members are medical

    professionals who provide medical service to us.

    34. Incentives to outstanding sports persons:

    The outstanding sports persons are rewarded with blazers, track suits

    and memento as ‘Krida Naipunya’ award by college apart from medals in their

    individual events. These sports persons are also felicitated along with their

    parents in the Gun Guarav function which is organized after the declaration of

    university result. We have well equipped separate gym for Boys and Girls. We

    charge fee for all the activities of the gym, but fee concession is given to

    outstanding sports persons of our college.

    Feb 2011. also through our cell our student Varsha Appasahib Sarnaubat has been

    absorbed as a chemist in Alchoplus Pvt Ltd Latur. Nine students from our college

    As a social disciplinery measure, our NCC cadets are deployed as security

    personnel in the city during Ganesh Visarjana, and Durga Pooja Festivals.

    Almost every department of our college has its own students associations.

    bodies: The attempts have been made by he college to have MOU with

    premier International Universities /Institutes. As apart of this attempt we

    could invite. Dr. Beatris Depove, Consultant International Affair, University of

    Lille-1, France . At the same time our Management members Dr. Gopalraoji

    Patil and principal A.S. Jadhav, , President and Joint Secretary respectively

    of our Sanstha visited Illinois University and Community College Salt Lake

    city at U.S.A in the month of March 11 for academic linkages . Also we are in

    touch with Director NCL Pune, for signing an MOU .

    20 Cadets participated in national Integration Rally and Tree plantation

    Drive on 8h 2010 was organised.

    20 Cadets actively participated in pulse polio Abhiyan on 19 Dec 2010.

    Blood donation camps are arranged regularly and donors are ready as

    and when the needy comes to colleges.

    To inculcate the scientific attitude various programmers have been

    conducted through various departments.

    Welcome and farewell functions are organized by departmental

    students’ Associations.

    E-learning centre ;

    Our E-learning centre is enriched with 20 computers in addition to earlier 20

    units of computers having Pentium-IV Computers in LAN and 3 stabilizers of 7.5

    KVA. E-learning Centre has capacities with 2 mbps broad band internet

    connectivity. The students, employees and teachers can download copy and print

    their study material using these above facilities. In all 280 teachers and 8970

    students took benefit of this centre.

  • YCMOU Centre :

    Under YCMOU we run foundation course for those who could not

    complete their school education. We run the following under graduate courses:

    (i) BA (ii) B.Com (iii) B.J. and post graduate courses in (i) Sociology and

    (ii) History, and M.Lib. Course is also conducted at our centre.

    In our YCMOU Centre Personal Guidance, Home Assignment and Group

    Discussion activities are undertaken.

    In all 2400 students including (UG/ PG) are taking benefit at our YCMOU centre.

    Class wise group discussion on different subjects such as social awareness,

    national integration, rights and responsibilities of a citizen and home assignments

    on evils of dowry system, importance of blood donation were undertaken.

    Music :

    Rajarshi Shahu Sangeet Concert on 23rd October 2010 and 29th Jan 2011 and

    unique Music Programme Rag Rang was organized. Chaitrapallavi Sangeet Utsav

    was organized on 3rd April 2011. Our music teacher Prof H..G. Joshi has acted as

    examiner for different Musical events in Youth Festival organized by Solapur

    University, Solapur

    As a regular activity , our music department organized a musical Concert by Sitar

    player Bert Coneles of Belgium and table Player Uddahav Bapu Apegaokar during

    annual social gathering .

    Cultural Activities :

    Elocution and Debate activities:

    A regional level Shahu elocution and debate competition was organized for

    the first time by the college. Our college students have bagged cash prizes,

    silver medal in youth festival, group second and third prize in state level ,

    group First prize in State level Nana Palkar Elocution and debate competition .

  • Hostel Facility :

    Ladies Hostel has an intake capacity of 120. There are 60 rooms with solar

    heater, generator, water softener, intercom, furniture set, cupboard, bed, fan and

    mess facility. There are eight office bearers who look after the hostel unit. At least

    four meetings of local management committee are arranged.

    In the Boys Hostel there are 38 rooms and one auditorium. The hostel

    accommodates 76 students. The Boys Hostel is meant for poor students who come

    under our ‘Earn and Learn’ scheme. The students are charged only Rs.250/- per

    month.

    Earn and Learn Scheme :

    We have deposited Rs. 16 lakh in the name of Principal A.S.Jadhav under

    Earn and Learn Scheme. The interest earned on the deposit is used for the scheme.

    This year 52 students took benefit of the scheme. We have spent Rs. 204155/

    under the said scheme.

    Language Lab : The department of English has effectively used our

    “Language Laboratory” created under UGC – CPE scheme for the benefit of

    students of the college and has conducted following courses :

    i) Basic spoken English

    ii) Advanced spoken English

    iii) Phonetics-Applied Language Skills

    Library :

    Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution.

    i. Internet facility for the teachers & students is given free of cost.

    ii. Special collection development of UPSC, MPSC, CA foundation, IIT-JEE,

    MHT-CET, MBA-CET,NDA, NET & SET, GRE, GMAT, CAT, TOFEL &

    etc.

    iii. Well-Equipped ‘Computer Lab’ with Multimedia facility is made
