Campus recruitment was conducted by Angel Brooking, Mumbai.

Coaching classes centre conducted coaching classes for various competitive examinations. 170 students were enrolled.

The students participated in various National and State level camps organized by NSS and NCC.

Vanamohatsav was celebrated by planting trees in the campus.

‘Road Safety Week’ was observed from 3rd to 9th January, 2011.

An exhibition on ‘Best out of Waste’ was organized.

‘Blood Donation Camp’ was held.

Students participated in several state and National level competitions.

3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction: The college is an affiliated to Goa University and therefore there is a restricted scope for its staff members in curricular designing. Nevertheless, some of the staff members have been on the Board of studies of Goa University and have contributed actively for the up gradation of undergraduate and postgraduate courses/ syllabus.

4. Inter-disciplinary programmes started: The College is exploring a possibility of starting NSE Certified Capital Market Professional Course in collaboration with National Stock Exchange of India.

5. The college conducted/organized following seminars/workshops during the academic year 2010-11 i) National Level Workshop on ‘Writing Effective Research Proposals and

Research Papers in Social Sciences’ ii) State Level Research Scholars Meet.

6. Research projects (during 2010-11) a) Newly implemented: 01 (Minor Research Project) b) Completed: None

7. Initiatives towards faculty development:

The faculty members are encouraged to attend seminars/workshops – Regional, National and International. Several of our staff members have presented papers at these seminars/workshops.

There is an independent research and consultancy cell that assists staff members for submitting research proposals to various funding agencies. The staff members are paid T.A./D.A. and Registration Fees. They are

sanctioned duty leave. Further, all necessary help like computer and other office assistance are provided.

FACULTY IMPROVEMENT PROGRAMMES AND INITIATIVES :

During the academic year 2010-11 several faculty members participated and presented papers at workshops and conferences both within and outside the state. We also organized National level and State level workshops/seminars for teachers from other institutions. In this section we present a brief summary of our contributions/participation/achievements during this period.

DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE Dr. M.R. PATIL Published a paper titled ‘Leadership in the Corporate World: Emerging

Challenges and New Traits to Effective Leadership’ Vol. XL No. 6, June, 2010, Chartered Secretary, The Institute of Company Secretaries of India, New Delhi pp: 789 – 792.

Delivered a lecture as a Resource person on ‘Writing Effective Research proposals in Social Sciences’ at the National Workshop on ‘Research Methodology and Quantitative Techniques’ organized by the Department of Commerce and Management, Shivaji University, Kolhapur, on 10th and 11th December, 2010.

Organised and delivered lectures as Resource Person at the two day National workshop on ‘Writing Effective Research proposals and Research papers in Social Sciences’ held on 4th and 5th February, 2011 at D.M.’s College, Assagao, Mapusa.

Delivered a lecture as a Resource person on ‘Writing Effective Research papers’ at the National Conference (Spurthi) on Emerging paradigms in Management’ on 25th and 26th March, 2011 at KLE Society’s Institute of Management Studies and Research, Hubli.

Organised a ‘State Level Research Scholars Meet’ on 31st March, 2011 at D.M.’s College, Assagao, Mapusa.

Mr. S.D. PATIL Attended a meeting with the Academic Audit committee, constituted by

Attended a one day state level seminar on ‘Redressal of Consumer Grievances by Government Agencies, organized by International Centre Goa in association with GOACAN, Goa on 15th March, 2011.

The library initiated an e-bulletin for faculty members. This e-bulletin informs the faculty about new arrivals and sources for accessing books and journals on the web and provides links to important information and data.

College library conducted Book exhibitions with the renowned leading publishers in the month of January, February, September and January to have a quality collection in the library. To create awareness among the faculties and students about the availability of books in the library, on the occasion of workshops/seminars, College library conducted its own book display on the theme of workshops/seminars held in our college.

Library offers services such as Reference Services, Referral Service, User Guidance/Orientation Service to all the students in their first year; Circulation Service including Inter Library Loan, regular display of recent additions of periodicals and books in the display/New Arrivals rack, Bibliographic Services on demand.

The Library has been equipped with most modern Canon photocopying machine and offers Photocopying/scanning facility to its patrons.

Current awareness service is provided comprising weekly display of photocopies of latest articles published in various periodicals that are being received in the library.

In addition to above mentioned services, Internet browsing facility along with Information Literacy Programme is made available in the library for the use of faculties and students.

Library also started SMS Alert Service for our faculty.

Along with print resources college library is also subscribed to N-LIST programme of INFLIBNET and having access to electronic resources, such as 3,000 national and international journals and 75,000 electronic books in all the subjects.

Conducted Prof. S.H. Kulkarni Memorial Essay Competition for students.

Installed four computers in the library for internet browsing and project purpose and all the computers are interconnected with each other.

29. Student achievements and awards: The College won three championships besides many individual achievements. A) Following is the list of students who participated at various Inter-University and

National tournaments: The college team participated in table-tennis and badminton (men and women)

tournaments. In Judo women, Ms. Archana Sharma won a Gold medal (under 52 kg.). She also

won Gold medal in the State Level Competition and participated at the National level tournament at Bangalore. She was selected to participate in a National level tournament at Surat.

The Weightlifting team (men) won the Championship for the second consecutive year. Mr. Rohit Malvankar, Mr. Ganesh Shetye, Mr. Rayhan Khan, Mr. Manoj Shet and Mr. Ronaldo Rozario won Gold medals. Mr. Manoj Shet won the Iron Men Title of Goa University while Mr. Trimbak Naik got the Bronze medal.

In Power Lifting, Mr. Rayhan Khan and Mr. Ganesh Shetye won Silver medals while Mr. Viraj Pandit won a Bronze medal.

In the Best Physique competition, Mr. Manoj Shet won a Silver medal. He also won the Silver medal at a competition organized by G.V.M.’s College, Ponda.

Swimming team (men) won the Championship. Mr. Kaustubh Natekar secured Gold medals in 100 & 200 mtrs. and Free Style competition. He was also selected for the Goa team which participated in the 37th Junior National Aquatic Championship, Bangalore organized by Karnataka Swimming Association.

At the Silver Jubilee Celebration of Goa University Mr. Shadab Shaikh was adjudged the Best Sportsperson of Goa University.

In the Women Athletics Competition, College team won the overall championship for the second consecutive year. The team set two new meet records one in Triple Jump by Ms. Minaxi Karapurkar (who broke her last year’s record) and another in the 4 x 100 mtrs. Relay by Ms. Sonali Shetyekar, Ms. Minaxi Karapurkar, Ms. Jessey Vaz and Ms. Dharshana Gauns.

The team won Gold medals in the 4 x 400 mtrs. Relay, 100 mtrs. Hurdles (Minaxi Karapurkar), 200 mtrs. and 400 mtrs. Run (Sonali Shetyekar), High Jump and Long Jump (Jessey Vaz) and 100 mtrs. Run (Dharshana Gauns), Dharshana Gauns also won Silver Medal in the Long Jump. Archana Sharma won a Silver Medal in Discuss Throw.

Karapurkar participated in the West Zone Athletics Competition, Bhopal, M.P. Miss Darshana Gauns won the Bronze medal in Long Jump, Ms. Sonali Shetyekar a Silver in 200 mtrs., Ms. Jessey Vaz a Bronze in Long Jump and Miss Minaxi Karapurkar a Bronze medal in Triple Jump. The team also secured third place in both 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 mtrs. Relay.

In men Athletics Competition, Deepesh Gadekar (S.Y.B.Com.) won a Bronze medal in the Pole Volt event.

Mr. Cassius Fernandes was selected to represent Goa State in National Junior Athletics Championship, at Bangalore.

The College Football team (men) entered the Semi-Finals. Mr. Ramino Estrocia (T.Y.B.C.A.) was selected in Goa University team, which won the West Zone Football Tournament. He also played in All India Inter-University Football tournament. Shaikh Shadab was the captain of the team.

Miss Sonia Parab participated in a Boxing Coaching camp at Italy. In Cricket tournament, the college team reached the quarter finals. Mr. Utkarsh

Pokle (F.Y.B.Com.) represented Goa U-22 team for C.K. Naidu cricket tournament. Mr. Utkarsh Pokle and Mr. Bappu Malik were selected in the Goa University team to participate in West Zone Inter-University Cricket at Surat.

Mr. Chandrakant Mandrekar (F.Y.B.A.) was selected in the Goa State Tug of war team which participated in the championship at Aizawl, Mizoram.

Mr. Devanand Kandolkar (S.Y.B.Com.) was selected to participate at the 7th National Jeet Kume Do Federation Cup – 2010 at Palampur and won a Silver medal in the Senior 41 kg. to 49 kg. category. He also participated at the Third National Speed ball championship 2011 held at Gandhi Ground, Palampur, Himachal Pradesh.

Mr. Ninad Salgaonkar (T.Y.B.Com.) was selected for the Goa University Volleyball team.

Hockey team (men) made it upto quarter finals. In April, 2010, members of the staff of the institution (College, Higher

Secondary, School) won the Late Shree Gurudas Gauns Memorial Cricket

Tournament organized by Vividha Higher Secondary School, Navelim,

Sanquelim, Goa.

B) Participation in University/State/National level :

Mr. Sitaram Toraskar won the Third Place at the Inter-Collegiate short story

writing competition held at C.E.S. College, Cuncolim. He also won the Third

Place at the Inter-Collegiate short essay writing competition held at G.V.M.’s

College, Ponda.

Our T.Y.B.Sc. and B.C.A. students bagged the Championship at ‘NOESIS 2010’

organized by Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim.

Mr. Himanshu Shirodkar (T.Y.B.Sc. Computer Science) won the first place in

Mr. Vishal Naidu won the First Place in Programming and Mr. Heramb Pankar

and Mr. Abhinav Naik won the First Place in Techjurgon at ‘IRIX 2011’

conducted by Smt. Parvatibai Chowgule College, Margao, Goa.

SUO Deepashri Naidu attended two TSC selection camps at Rohideshwar from

24th June, 2010 to 19th July, 2010.

Cadet Sagar Tendulkar attended the National Integration camp at Nagaland in

May, 2010.

Cadet Akash Fulari attended the National Integration camp at Mysore from

14th June to 25th June, 2010.

Cadets Poonam Malik, Anisha Candolkar, Harsha Chari, Rasursab Dodmani,

Sayed Farhan, Kadari, attended the Combined Annual Training Camp at

Rohideshwar, Belgaum from 25th June to 5th July.

Nihad Aga attended the National Integration camp at Srinagar from 19th July to

30th July, 2010.

Cadet James Shijin attended the All India Trekking Expedition (Valley of flowers

and Hemkund Sahib Trek) at Dehradun from 1st September to 17th September,

2010.

Fifty cadets attended the Combined annual Training Camp at St. Anthony High

School, Duler, Mapusa, in November. Our cadets won 2nd Prize in Kit Layout

competition for boys and girls.

P.O. Cadet Kishan Phadte, P.O. Cadet Shubhada Patki, Cadet Jateen Sharma and

Cadet Rohan Sethi completed RDC Phase I, Phase II and Phase III at Belgaum.

These were the only cadets from Goa who were selected for next camp at

Bangalore.

Cadet Rohan Sethi and Cadet Jateen Sharma were the only cadets from Goa to

represent Karnataka and Goa Directorate at REPUBLIC DAY PARADE, NEW

DELHI, 2011.

Thirty five cadets attended the Annual Training Camp 2010 at St. Anthony’s

High School, Dhuler from 11th to 20th November, 2010. Our college was

awarded the ‘BEST INSTITUTION’ for the third time.

Cadet Saurabh Vernekar and Cadet Ashvek Desai attended All India Boy’s

Leadership camp at Tamilnadu.

Cadet Sanket Khalap and Cadet Shirish Parsekar attended the National

Integration Camp at Hyderabad.

NC-I Nadap C. Shavkatali, Cadet Uddhav Korgaonkar, Cadet Ninad Walke,

Leading Cadet Radhika Naidu and Cadet Reha Kovlekar attended Sailing camp

“SAMUDRA MANTHAN 2010”.

30. Activities of the Guidance and Counseling Unit: a) The Career Guidance cell alongwith PTA organized a session for students on

‘How to prepare for All India Civil Service Examinations’ conducted by UPSC. b) The cell also conducted Orientation programme for students on ‘How to Apply

for Written examinations online’. c) The Employment Cell of the college conducted campus recruitment programme

for Angel Broking. d) The Counseling Cell of our college has engaged the services of a professional

Counselor who attend to students for 9 hours a week. She also provides group counseling on topics such as problem solving, improving communication with parents, and handling peer pressure and relationship anxiety for students.

31. Placement services provided to students: The Employment cell in association with Department of M.Com. conducted campus recruitment programme for Angel Broking on 1st February, 2011. Forty students participated and six were shortlisted for the job of Business Development Officers and Sales Executives.

32. Development programmes for non-teaching staff: MS. JUDAS E. MASCARENHAS

Attended a three day ‘Training Programme for Heads of Institutions and Key Personnel Dealing with Statistics’ conducted by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Govt. of India, in collaboration with the Directorate of Higher Education, Govt. of Goa held on 10th, 11th and 12th January, 2011 at E.D.C. House, Panaji, Goa.
