Founder of medical population genetics. Physician par excellence and investigator of the human gene pool. The mission of the March of Dimes is to prevent birth defects and infant mortality. No individuals that we support work more effectively to carry out this mission than do clinical geneticists. Thus, it is a particular privilege for the March of Dimes to use donations from the Colonel Harlan D. Sanders Memorial Fund to honor the pioneers and leaders in this field for lifetime achievement in clinical genetics. The selection is made by peers. The list of past recipients defines the high significance of the honor: Joseph Warkany, F. Clarke Fraser, Victor A. McKusick, Robert J. Gorlin, Hans Zellweger, John M. Opitz, Arthur Robinson, Judith G. Hall, Charles Epstein, Arno Motulsky, David L. Rimoin, and Charles Scriver. This year’s recipient of the March of Dimes/Colonel Harlan D.
