WELCOME SESSIONWelcome to AUP! AUP staff meet and greet you and your fellow students at the Maison de la Chimie, just next door to campus. You will learn about the exciting week ahead of you and receive your enrollment and registration appointment for check-in, which happens the following day.
YOUR STUDENT ADVISORAll incoming students are assigned a student advisor. Student advisors not only accompany you and other members of your incoming group to various Orientation events but also provide support throughout the semester. Think of these students—who know their way around Paris
and AUP—as a resource and get to know them at your first social event the day of check-in.
AUP CHECK-IN AND SERVICESAn AUP Admissions Counselor is on hand at Maison de la Chimie to officially check you in. Arrive at your assigned time to review your pre-arrival checklist. We’ll refer you to all the right AUP offices as necessary, including Student Accounting Services, the AUP Registrar, Student Immigration Services and other services. Once check-in is complete, you will receive your student photo ID.
EVENING EVENTSFollowing welcome activities at Maison de la Chimie (MdC) the first day of Orientation, undergraduate students attend an early evening cocktail on campus. On Thursday, all undergrads attend a Boat party...and maybe your first “hamburger on the Seine.” Friday evening students tour Paris and enjoy a night out on a Bateau Mouche as it cruises the Seine.
ENGLISH PLACEMENT TESTSFollowing Orientation check-in, entering students will take an English Placement test. Students already pre-placed in an English level based on American standardized test scores will see this on their registration status at check-in and will be exempt from taking the test.
PRACTICAL PARISThis session is scheduled the same day as check-in and focuses on the essentials of living in Paris. We provide tips on banking, phone plans and health coverage while also reviewing AUP’s services and resources available to you.
PARENT ORIENTATIONAUP invites parents and family members of incoming students to join us for Parent Orientation. This session allows parents the opportunity to engage AUP leadership in learning the opportunities and resources available to their students and become better acquainted with the student experience. Find out more on pages 9-12.

ACADEMIC ORIENTATIONStudents will discuss a number of interesting articles (read during summer) on current thinking about what the best universities can offer them, learning in a global environment, and resources and strategies for success at AUP and beyond.
CAMPUS TOUR & METROJoin an AUP staff member or student advisor for this comprehensive tour of AUP’s campus, and learn how
to get your public transportation passes. Review prices, forms and the process to register for yearly travel passes for the Paris Metro, buses, and RER. One semester students learn how to obtain a rechargeable travel pass for unlimited travel during their stay.
DISCOVER PARIS TOURSWith AUP’s campus located in the heart of the seventh arrondissement, finding your way around this neighborhood quickly becomes second nature. With your student
advisor, you will venture beyond this part of Paris to discover another side of the City of Light and get a better sense of what it means to be Parisian.
SAFETY: PARIS AND BEYONDAUP takes the safety of its community and visitors very seriously. As with any university campus, especially in a large city, you must understand your role in safety. You will learn how to be appropriately aware of your surroundings and stay safe as you
travel around Paris, as well as to other cities and countries while you are at AUP. AUP also makes the International SOS Assistance APP available to you for your security and save travels.
PICNIC AT CHAMPS DE MARSEnjoy a picnic with your fellow students and student advisor on the Champs de Mars, right at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. French bread, cheese (or something else) and a beautiful view...yes, you ARE in Paris!
The SOS Assistance APP will provide you with one-click dialing to the closest SOS Centre and up-to-date medical and security information on your phone. I N T E R N A T I O N A L S O S P H O N E A P P :

WELCOME FAIRGain hands-on experience and simply have fun by participating in one or more of the many extra-curricular and co- curricular activities which are an integral part of the total AUP experience. Talk with student leaders and support staff at the fair about your interests and get involved in student government, student media, clubs, sports and/or volunteer work—or start your own activity!
OPEN MICAUP has talent. Each semester new students get up on stage to sing, play music, dance, tell jokes and show off their talents in other ways. This is a great way to get to know people in your incoming class and to start the year on a positive, energetic note. Open Mics are organized throughout the semester—come get your first taste of an AUP tradition on Saturday!
STUDENT RESOURCE CENTERThe Student Resource Center is open the entire week of Orientation. Staff at the center are on hand to answer questions and resolve problems, referring you to the right AUP resources as needed. Note that the center opens at Maison de
La Chimie Tuesday, Aug. 31 and moves to the Combes building on campus on Friday, Sept. 1.
LIBRARY: BOOKS, LOOKS AND COOKIESIn a world of e-books and Google search, learn how very important the AUP library and its collections and services willbe to your academic success at AUP. Come socialize and have cookies and refreshments. Bring your smart phone— enter the library photo-contest and win a prize!
HOUSINGLearn everything you need to know about managing apartment life, from dealing with appliances and plumbing gone awry to neighbor and roommate relations.

O P E N M I C
AUP has talent. Each semester new students get up on stage to sing, play music, dance, tell jokes and show off their talent in other ways.
This is a great way to get to know people in your incoming class and to start the year on a positive, energetic note.
Open Mics are organized throughout the semester—come get your first taste of an AUP tradition on Saturday!
OPEN MIC (SATURDAY)September 2 | 18:00–21:00 | Combes
DID YOU KNOW?
Open Mic has been a long tradition at AUP
and is usually hosted inside AUP’s own
AMEX Café in the Combes
building.

RESEARCH PRESENTATIONJoin some of the graduate program faculty who will present their research projects. Participate in a stimulating discussion with your peers and faculty on their ideas and findings.
FINANCIAL AID & LOANSOur resident staff expert on financial aid and student loans will guide you through any bureaucratic tangles that you may have encountered.
CAMPUS TOUR AND METRO PASSJoin an AUP staff member or student advisor for this comprehensive tour of AUP’s campus, which ends at our Combes student center where you will learn how to get your public transportation passes. Review prices, forms and the process to register for yearly
metro passes for the Paris Metro, buses, and RER. One semester students learn how to obtain a rechargeable pass for unlimited travel during their stay.
WELCOME FAIRGain hands-on experience and simply have fun by participating in one or more of the many extracurricular and co-curricular activities which are an integral part of the total AUP experience. Talk with student leaders and support staff at the fair about your interests and get involved in student government, student media, clubs, sports and/or volunteer work—or start your own activity!
STUDENT RESOURCE CENTERThe Student Resource Center is open the entire week of Orientation. Staff at the center
are on hand to answer questions and resolve problems, referring you to the right AUP resources as needed. Note that the center opens at Maison de La Chimie Tuesday, Aug. 29 and moves to the Combes building on campus on Friday Sept. 1.
MEET THE PRESIDENT AND PROVOSTThe President and Provost of AUP will present the mission of graduate education at AUP and answer any questions you may have.

Student advisors not only accompany you and other members of your incoming group to various Orientation
events but also provide support throughout the semester. Think of these students—who know their way around Paris and AUP—as a resource and get to know them at your first social event the day of check-in.
AUP CHECK-IN AND SERVICESAn AUP Admissions Counselor is on hand at Maison de la Chimie to officially check you in. Arrive at your assigned time to review your pre-arrival checklist. We’ll refer you to all the right AUP offices as necessary, including Student Accounting Services, the AUP Registrar,
Student Immigration Services and other services. Once check-in is complete, you will receive your student photo ID.
EVENING EVENTSOn Thursday, all graduates have dinner with their student advisor and on Friday graduate students attend an early evening cocktail with Faculty on campus.
ACADEMIC ORIENTATIONAcademic orientation will take place on Wednesday with specific Graduate program meetings allowing you to ask questions about your studies and any options in choosing classes.
INTERNSHIP AND CAREERSOur Careers office will outline the range of services, skill-workshops and one-on-one mentoring sessions that are available to graduate students.
PARIS LIBRARY RESOURCESOur librarians will outline the various library resources available to graduate students both at our own library, the Sciences Po library and other specialist libraries in Paris.
