Compared with younger patients, the elderly:• Are more ill at presentation• Arrive by ambulance more frequently• Receive more tests• Suffer from more chronic medical comorbidities• Are admitted to the hospital at higher rates• Experience longer ED stays• Incur higher medical bills• Return more frequently to the ED
