Lesson 1, task 1, read this text

What is the Amazon Rain forest? Background Facts: The Amazon Rainforest is the Worlds largest Tropical rainforest famous for it’s biodiversity. It only covers about 6% of the earth’s surface but is home to more than half the worlds’ plant and animal species. – we will be looking at the animals living there for our art work.

* Biodiversity means the variety of living things in a given place eg: from small streams to deserts, all forests in the world, oceans or the entire planet.

*Can you think of any animals that might live in the Amazon rainforest? Chat to someone and see if you can come up with a short list from your own knowledge to help you when you do you drawing task. ( you may want to google images of animals later to help you)

* Further down the power point we will also look at the effects that deforestation has on the rainforest and will try to show this, as a piece of art work as one of our tasks; in the form of a ‘split’ picture composition.

Lesson 1, task 2: The 4 layers of the rainforest where the animals live? (Their habitat) - ‘STOP TO THINK!’

* Think: When choosing your animal to draw think about which ‘layer’ of the rainforest it might be living in. you could include some background into your art work!

From what you have learnt so far you now might want to answer the questions on your collection sheet.

Lesson 1, task 4 challenge!

Below, to help you, are 2 pictures of the Amazon rain forest. They show in the second picture how deforestation changes the appearance of the rain forest. (you will have learnt about deforestation in your Topic work) Using a piece of paper Landscape; draw a line down the middle to form 2 halves. In the first half draw what you think the rainforest looks like in it’s natural environment. In the second half, draw your interpretation of it after deforestation has taken place. Talk over your ideas with someone – They too may have some ideas to share.Have a go. Be as creative as you can; you may want to show it as a

poster for saving the Amazon rain forest.
