Objective: Know what European countries took the lead in Exploration in the 15th and 16th centuries and where they explored. Investigate and understand the impacts of European exploration on the areas they explored.

• Objective: Understand the difficulty European explorers faced on their journey. Learn what the Columbian Exchange is and how it impacted both the New and Old worlds.

Objective: 13-1 Quiz! Understand how the Trans-Atlantic Slave trade began and what goods were exchanged between Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Trace the impacts of the Slave Trade on Western Africa.

October 11th and 12th

• Warm Up: Draw and label a diagram that represents the Triangle Trade between Europe, Africa, and the Americas. Why do you THINK different African tribes were willing to participate in the slave trade?

• Objective: Understand impacts slave trade had on Western Africa. OPVL introduction and assignment.

• Warm Up: What is Balance of Trade? What is a country’s goal in regards to balance of trade?

• Objective: Understand how exploration and the slave trade led to Latin America being colonized by Europeans. Understand the social structures of Latin America. Read article on how exercise improves learning.

October 17th and 18th• Read pages 444 and 708 in your text

book about the social class system in Colonial Latin America.

Draw a graphic organizer like the one to the right. Fill in the pyramid with privileges and benefits/negatives of being a part of each social class.

• Objective: Understand the social classes (and the benefits and drawbacks of those classes) of Colonial Latin America. Review all of Chapter 13 to prepare for your exam next class.
