FIE The Agape Pages July 2014 What a privilege to be part of this team! Greetings in the name of our Savior, Jesus! Whew, what a June! Ever since Cole was born in March, time has flown by in a whirlwind for our family! Can you believe that Cole is 3 months old already? We can’t! We praise God for our new little boy!!! Our big family highlight for the month was my (Chris’s) parents’ first visit to Kenya. They arrived in Kisumu in late May, and over the next 15 days, we did our best to introduce them to our lives here working at Agape and living in Kenya. Over the two-week period, my parents had an opportunity to minister in a number of different areas at Agape—they went to the streets to minister to glue- addicted boys and men; they led praise and worship during Agape’s devotional times; my Mom helped sew curtains at Agape Boys and teach crocheting at Agape Girls; and my Dad got to drive with me 4 hours south to Agape’s Vocational Training Center (The Farm) in rural southwest Kenya to investigate a fire in one of our dormitories. We also had some downtime as a family to explore the beauty and excitement of Kenya—we took an overnight trip to visit Lake Nakuru National Park to see water buffalo, zebra, giraffe, water buck, antelope, impala, baboon, and monkeys living in the wild; we took a boat ride out onto Lake Victoria and drifted within 10 feet of a family of seven hippos; we went hiking into the mountains overlooking Kisumu and Lake Victoria; and we sampled traditional Kenyan cuisine at Hangover Hotel! My Dad said that despite the dangerous animals we witnessed and the rocks we climbed on, all of it paled in comparison to the dangers of . . . . driving in Kisumu! If you’ve never driven in Africa before, it is a crazy experience—it’s more like playing a video game than driving a car! Cars, trucks, semis, motorcycles, tuk-tuks (kinda like 3-wheel golf carts), bicycles, cows, goats, people . . . . it is madness on the roads here! I think that my parents are the most thankful that they survived just driving here. We were so blessed to have my parents visit, and we pray that they will be able to make a return trip sometime in the future! We also can’t wait for some of our other family members and friends to make the trip out to Kenya! Who’s next??? Meanwhile, God continues to do amazing things through Agape to minister to boys and girls found on Kisumu’s streets. Daily, I am reminded of how blessed I am to be able to minister with the missionaries and Kenyan staff at Agape. He has assembled a group of men and women that are truly dedicated to glorifying him in the work we are doing with these children. What a privilege to be a part of this team! Our tickets are booked to come back to the US this winter; we will arrive in mid-November and will stay in the US until mid-February! After being away from family during the holiday season for the past three years, we are so excited to be able to spend Thanksgiving and Christmas at home! In addition to spending time with friends and family, we also look forward to continuing to spread the word about God’s work through Agape to minister to at-risk children in Kenya. If your church, Bible study, or small group would be interested in us coming to share, please let us know! It’s hard to believe that we’ll be back in the US in 5 months! Thank you all for your continued prayers and support; we couldn’t be serving here in Kenya without you!!! Kwaheri (Goodbye)!!! What a privilege to be part of this team!
