Places in the Heart I have never been more convinced that it is in God

that the heart finds its home. This 3-part series

focuses on the process of seeking God in such a way

that our lives are filled to over-flowing — with the

fullness that only he can give. Series begins on

Short and Sweet Words

February 2017

The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and He helps me.

My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise Him Psalm 28:7

Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ! Maybe you have seen the latest Southwest Airlines commercial. The one with the tag line, “Want to get away?” It starts with a real mean looking army and the leader asking for a man named Fenwick to come forward and if he does all others will be spared. He starts forward and then from beside him a voice says, “I am Fenwick.” And then another says, “I am Fenwick.” And suddenly everyone is standing up for Fenwick. And then a character, who has no clue about what’s going on, comes out of nowhere holding Fenwick’s shield. He goes over to Fenwick and says, “Isn’t this your shield Fenwick with the stripes?” And then cue the Want to Get Away tagline! I must admit I have chuckled the few times I have seen this commercial. Mostly because it reminds me of the moments in my life that I have had a want to get away encounter. But this has stuck with me as well because of the message it shares of standing up for each other and ultimately, the strength that we have in the Lord as our strength and shield. The scripture above points out this very real truth that God is our strength and shield. He is to be trusted and He helps us. I don’t know about you, but there have been moments in my life when I am overwhelmed and afraid. Like Fenwick I think I am done in. And in those moments I am always drawn to the truth of this passage that God is with me and He is protecting me. And I am continually thankful for this great strength that He shares on my behalf. And I love the way the next line of our passage goes. My heart leaps for joy. I don’t know about you but I want to have the same heart as this psalmist who even in the midst of struggle knows God’s strength and is led to joy! Friends may you know the deep love of Jesus Christ as your strength and shield this day and may the joy of His love fill you this day! In Christ, Pastor Ryan

TREASURER'S REPORT – December 2016

2016 was a good year financially. Our budgeted 2016 deficit of $37,251 ended up being a surplus of $27,727. That's a difference of $64,978. Income accounted for $48,575 and expenses for $16,403. Both current and building ended 2016 with a surplus and mission ended with a zero balance after payment of all budget items. Keep in mind we have cut budgets since 2012. Total assets less liabilities increased from $514,343.22 to $583,649.80, an increase of $69,306.58. Brokerage account increase of $8,354 due to increase in stock prices. College Ministry Christian Education will be collecting pre-determined food items for our College Care Packages. If you would like to contribute a monetary donation for the shipping of the packages, or for the gift cards being sent to the students, please place your donation in the offering plate. Your check or envelope should read College Care Packages. Thank you for your support. Defending My Faith in Today’s World New Series Begins February 5 What Proof Do We Have to Support Creation from the Bible? Does science point toward or away from it today?

In a world that seemingly grows more intolerant of Christianity with each passing year we, as followers of Jesus Christ, find ourselves faced with the daunting task of defending our faith, often to friends and relatives. How do we do this? Is it even possible when the name of Jesus Christ falls on hardened hearts and closed minds? The Good News is that with His help, all things are possible (Mark 10:27). Beginning Sunday, February 5, Bob Proske invites us to join him at 10:45 AM each Sunday in the Lounge to discover how we can defend our faith in today’s world as the group begins to look this new topic. This journey will critically examine evolution, the origin of life, the age of the earth, the origin of the universe, with a few side roads on the flood, ice age and dinosaurs for kicks. All of this will be looked at from the perspective of different presenters to gain as complete understanding as possible. Despite the overall extended theme, each session will stand on its own and provide a valuable learning experience so it is not absolutely essential to attend every session. Keep an eye out for more details in the weekly bulletin. If you have any questions, please contact Bob Proske at [email protected] or call him at 215-514-4282.

At Safe Harbor, on the participants first night they are taken to the “Blanket Room” to choose their own blanket. These blankets provide warmth, comfort, joy and immediately give them a sense of belonging at Safe Harbor. I just wanted to send my deepest gratitude to all our amazing volunteer blanket makers, we helped make Safe Harbor a place of comfort and hope. I can’t wait to do it again!
