Ⅱ. General Overview
□ General ○ The 5th World Toilet Leaders Forum was co-hosted
with Suwon City, and it was a good opportunity for foreign participants in developing countries to recognize the importance of improving toilet culture and benchmark the Korea's toilet through special lectures and field trips. Foreign participants are interested in new toilet technology like Water saving and Eco-friendly toilet. Speakers on all subjects received good assessment for a wide variety of contents, and a structured lecture.
○ 24 people from 9countries participated the 5th World
Toilet Leaders Forum. For field trip, we visit Suwon sewage treatment plant, toilet in Gwanggyo Central Park ,Haewoojae toilet museum and etc. Especially foreign participants are interested in way of treating the sewage, so there are lots of questions about it.
○ Also, for this year’s Leaders Forum , there is time for
the seminar. This seminar introduces WTA projects and suggests for public toilet construction projects in developing countries, rather than presenting the state of hygiene that has been going on in the past, and provides guidelines on how to build public toilets in each country. Also we provide the basis for submission of future project proposals by detailed question and answer. This seminar emphasizes the importance of close linkage between public toilet business in developing countries and international exchange of toilet culture.

○ Especially, there is a meeting between the WTA
secretary general and the next event host coutries’ delegation. For South Africa, Trevor Mulaudzi (WTA vice-president) cooperates with WTA well, so it is well-prepared. However, Malaysia hoped to attract from 2012, but it was lost several times, and for 2019 there is also an financial problem so we got meeting. He (Damian Chai) promised to announce detail schedule and budget in November Board meeting. Also for naming issue, representative will continuously discuss with the Malaysia government.
○ For post tour, at the Suwon Cultural Center, we enjoy
the beautiful shapes and colors of rice cakes and omija tea, which are unfamiliar to foreign participants. Flying Suwon and Korean Archery tour were canceled due to weather and time problems, respectively. However, we walk around Hwaseong in the cool weather, also participants were interested in the history of the construction of Hwaseong
□ Good Point ○ Although the number of people was larger than the
previous year's Leaders Forum, it finished well without a big accident.
○ Foreign residents' satisfaction with accommodation, meals and programs was high.
- 6 -
□ Failings ○ The cooperation of the Suwon environmental establishment was insufficient. ○ The cooperation with the hotel was not smooth. (Amplifier, pre-preparation etc.) ○ In the process of inviting foreign participants, it was difficult to prepare for the event because the number of participants was not clear due to visa problems or they are out of contact immediately before the event.

1. Malaysia Participants : Damian Chai (WTA Board Member, QRAM Vice-President) WTA Secretary General Young-chel KIM · I wonder if the prepartion for the General Assembly in Malaysia is going well. Because the General Assembly has been canceled several times since 2012. · World Toilet Association can provide support the one time of dinner for 300 people, and all the necessary materials for the General Assembly. We can spend maximum USD 40 per person for dinner. · It takes about USD 15,000 if we hold the general assembly in Korea · Please discuss the specific budget issues at the board meeting in South Africa. What I want to discuss today is that you can postpone event if the situation becomes difficult. · If the situation in Malaysia does not improve, you can choose between the 2019 General Assembly and the 2020 Board Meeting. Also, since the convention center is built in Suwon, there is no problem to held General Assembly in Suwon. · For the issue of drawing the time of the board meeting, actually by the WTA rule, General Assembly should be held at the end of the year, but if it is inevitable, it is okay to draw. · I wonder if the name issue of the General Assembly in Malaysia has been resolved. As decided in the Board Meeting, the right name is “World Toilet Association Malaysia Kota Kinabalu Branch” Damian CHAI · Proposal for the 2019 General Assembly was submitted in 2018 and approved. However, the government that supports the Malaysia Toilet Association lose
- 13 -
at the election. So scale of the General Assembly should be held in small scale because of the lack of budget · The schedule is about 2 days of the general meeting and about 1 week of the exhibition. The issue of specific budgets will be announced at the Board meeting in South Africa after the consultation with the government. · In Malaysia, ticket prices are expensive at the end of the year. Therefore, if we do it in December as planned, we will not be able to hold many people. So I would like to ask to draw the schedule a little. · In the case of the name issue, the question is whether including the name "World" or not, and the government does not approve it. I will continuously discuss with the government. Also we need appovement from the WTA Office. * Interpretation : English-Korean
2. South Africa Participants : Trevor Mulaudzi (WTA vice-president, Professor of Limpopo University) WTA Secretary General Young-chel KIM · For the Board Meeting in South Africa We don‘t really care about it cause you are preparing for it very well. I would also like to ask you to have attention for the General Assembly in Malaysia
Trevor Mulaudzi · The Board Meeting in South Africa is proceeding
smoothly. I think it would be good for the General Assembly of Malaysia to proceed as planned in 2019.
