I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to his word. Luke 1.38
THE ADVENT WREATH - The Fourth Candle - LOVE
Leader: Light and peace, in Jesus Christ our Lord.
All: Thanks be to God
Leader: Today the candles of HOPE, PEACE and JOY continue to burn in
the Advent Wreath. On this the fourth Sunday in Advent, we light the candle
of LOVE as we continue to prepare ourselves for the joyful celebration of
the birth of our Saviour Jesus Christ.
The Fourth Candle is lit
Jesus demonstrated self-giving love in his ministry as the Good Shepherd.
Through his Incarnation, Jesus became love, not only through his own
sacrifice but also as God’s precious gift to humanity. This season is a time
for kindness, thinking of others, and sharing with others. It is a time to love
others as God has loved us. As God is love, let us be love also. In the Gospel
according to John we hear, “I give you a new commandment, that you love
one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.
All: By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love
for one another.” (John 13:34-35)
Leader: Let us pray.
All: Teach us to love, O God of Love. As we prepare for our celebration of
the birth of your Son, fill our hearts with his love for you, our families, our
neighbours, your church and your the world, that all may know your love
and the one whom you have sent, Jesus, our Savior. Amen.
THE COLLECT
Celebrant: Let us pray
Heavenly Father, who chose the Virgin Mary, full of grace, to be the mother
of our Lord and Saviour, now fill us with your grace, that we in all things
may embrace your will and with her rejoice in your salvation; through Jesus
Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one
God, now and for ever. Amen.

THE FIRST READING: 2 Samuel 7:1-11,16
The spirit of the Lord God is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me; he has
sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to
proclaim liberty to the captives, and release to the prisoners; to proclaim the year
of the Lord's favour, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all who
mourn; to provide for those who mourn in Zion - to give them a garland instead
of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the mantle of praise instead of a
faint spirit. They will be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, to
display his glory. They shall build up the ancient ruins, they shall raise up the
former devastations; they shall repair the ruined cities, the devastations of many
generations. For I the Lord love justice, I hate robbery and wrongdoing; I will
faithfully give them their recompense, and I will make an everlasting covenant
with them. Their descendants shall be known among the nations, and their
offspring among the peoples; all who see them shall acknowledge that they are a
people whom the Lord has blessed. I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my whole
being shall exult in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of
salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom
decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. For
as the earth brings forth its shoots, and as a garden causes what is sown in it to
spring up, so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring up
before all the nations.
Reader: The Word of the Lord
All: Thanks be to God.
THE MAGNIFICAT (SONG OF MARY) (Page 86
My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord, my spirit rejoices in God my
Saviour; for he has looked with favour on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed: the Almighty has done
great things for me, and holy is his name.
He has mercy on those who fear him in every generation. He has shown the
strength of his arm, he has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones, and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things, and the rich he has sent away
empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel, for he has remembered his
promise of mercy, the promise he made to our fathers, to Abraham and his
children for ever..
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the
beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen.

THE SECOND READING: Romans 16:25-27
Now to God who is able to strengthen you according to my gospel and the
proclamation of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery that was
kept secret for long ages but is now disclosed, and through the prophetic writings
is made known to all the Gentiles, according to the command of the eternal God,
to bring about the obedience of faith - to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ,
to whom be the glory forever!
Reader: The Word of the Lord
All: Thanks be to God.
THE GOSPEL
Reader: The Lord be with you. All: And with thy spirit. Reader: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke (1:26-
38)
All: Glory be to thee, O Lord. In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called
Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of
David. The virgin's name was Mary. And he came to her and said, "Greetings,
favoured one! The Lord is with you." But she was much perplexed by his words
and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. The angel said to her, "Do not
be afraid, Mary, for you have found favour with God. And now, you will
conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be
great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to
him the throne of his ancestor David. He will reign over the house of Jacob
forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end." Mary said to the angel, "How
can this be, since I am a virgin?" The angel said to her, "The Holy Spirit will
come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore
the child to be born will be holy; he will be called Son of God. And now, your
relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son; and this is the sixth
month for her who was said to be barren. For nothing will be impossible with
God." Then Mary said, "Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me
according to your word." Then the angel departed from her.
Reader: The Gospel of Christ.
All: Praise be to thee, O Christ.
HOMILY
THE NICENE CREED (Page 234)
All: I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth,
and of all things visible and invisible;
And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the
6
Father before all worlds, God, of God; Light, of Light; very God, of very
God; begotten, not made; being of one substance with the Father; through
whom all things were made: who for us and for our salvation came down
from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, and
was made man, and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate. He
suffered and was buried, and the third day he rose again according to the
scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of the
Father. And he shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the
dead: whose kingdom shall have no end.
And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceedeth
from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son together is
worshipped and glorified, who spake by the prophets.
And I believe one, holy, catholic, and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one
baptism for the remission of sins. And I look for the resurrection of the dead,
and the life of the world to come. Amen.

THE CONFESSION & ABSOLUTION (Page 238) Celebrant: Hear what comfortable words our Saviour Christ saith unto all that
truly turn to him. Come unto me all that labour and are heavy laden, and I will refresh you.
Matthew 1.28
God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, to the end that
all that believe in him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3.16
Hear also what Saint Paul saith. This is a true saying, and worthy of all to be received, that Christ Jesus came
into the world to save sinners. 1 Timothy 1.15
Hear also what Saint John saith. If anyone sin, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the
righteous; and he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but
also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2.1,2
Let us humbly confess our sins to almighty God.
All: Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Maker of all things and
judge of all people: we acknowledge and confess our manifold sins and
wickedness, which we from time to time most grievously have committed, by
thought, word and deed, against thy divine majesty. We do earnestly repent,
and are heartily sorry for these our misdoings. Have mercy upon us, most
merciful Father; for thy Son our Lord Jesus Christ’s sake, forgive us all that
is past; and grant that we may ever hereafter serve and please thee in
newness of life, to the honour and glory of thy name; Through Jesus Christ
our Lord. Amen. Celebrant: Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who of his great mercy hath
promised forgiveness of sins to all them that with hearty repentance and
true faith turn unto him: have mercy upon you; pardon and deliver you
from all your sins; confirm and strengthen you in all goodness; and bring
you to everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. All: Amen.
THE PEACE
Celebrant: The Peace of the Lord be always with you.
All: And with thy spirit.
Please greet one another with a sign of peace.

OFFERTORY (Lo, How A Rose E'er Blooming )
PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS
Gracious God, by the power of the Spirit who sanctified the mother of your
Son, make holy all we offer you this day. We ask this in the name of Jesus
Christ the Lord . Amen.
EUCHARISTIC PRAYER A (Page 241)
Celebrant: The Lord be with you.
People: And with thy spirit.
Celebrant: Lift up your hearts.
People: We lift them up unto the Lord.
Celebrant: Let us give thanks unto our Lord God.
People: It is meet and right so to do.
It is very meet, right, and our bounden duty, that we should at all times, and
in all places, give thanks unto thee, O Lord, holy Father, almighty,
everlasting God, creator and preserver of all things.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord, who in the fullness of time came among us
in our flesh and opened to us the way of salvation. Now we watch for the day
when he will come again in power and great triumph to judge this world;
that we, without shame or fear, may rejoice to behold his appearing.
Therefore with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven,
we laud and magnify thy glorious name; evermore praising thee and saying:
All: Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Hosts, heaven and earth are full of thy
glory. Glory be to thee, O Lord most high. Blessed is he that cometh in the
name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.
Please kneel or sit as you are able.
Celebrant: Blessing and glory and thanksgiving be unto thee, almighty God,
our heavenly Father, who of thy tender mercy didst give thine only Son Jesus
Christ to take our nature upon him, and to suffer death upon the cross for
our redemption; who made there, by his one oblation of himself once
offered, a full, perfect, and sufficient sacrifice, oblation, and satisfaction, for
the sins of the whole world; and did institute, and in his holy Gospel
command us to continue, a perpetual memorial of that his precious death,
until his coming again.
Hear us, O merciful Father, we most humbly beseech thee; and grant that
we receiving these thy creatures of bread and wine, according to thy Son our
9
Saviour Jesus Christ’s holy institution, in remembrance of his
death and passion, may be partakers of his most blessed body
and blood; who, in the same night that he was betrayed, took
bread; and, when he had given thanks, he brake it;
and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this
is my body which is Given for you: Do this in
remembrance of me.”
Likewise after supper he took the cup; and when he had given
thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink ye all, of this; for this
is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you and for
many for the remission of sins: Do this, as oft as ye shall drink it, in
remembrance of me.”
Wherefore, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, we thy humble servants,
with all thy holy Church, remembering the precious death of thy beloved
Son, his mighty resurrection, and Glorious ascension, and looking for his
coming again in glory, do make before thee, in this sacrament of the holy
bread of eternal life and the cup of everlasting salvation, the memorial
which he hath commanded:
All: We praise thee, we bless thee, we thank thee, and we pray to thee, Lord
our God.
And we entirely desire thy fatherly goodness mercifully to accept this our
sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, most humbly beseeching thee to grant,
that by the merits and death of thy Son Jesus Christ, and through faith in
his blood, we and all thy whole Church may obtain remission of our sins,
and all other benefits of his passion; And we pray that by the power of thy
Holy Spirit, all we who are partakers of this holy communion may be
fulfilled with thy grace and heavenly benediction; through Jesus Christ our
Lord, by whom and with whom, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honour
and glory be unto thee, O Father Almighty, world without end. Amen.
THE LORD’S PRAYER
Celebrant: And now, as our Saviour Christ hath taught us, we are bold to
say, People: Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom
come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily
bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass
against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For
thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.
THE BREAKING OF THE BREAD
10
People: We do not presume to come to this thy table, O
merciful Lord, Trusting in our own righteousness, But in thy
manifold and great mercies. We are not worthy So much as
to gather up the crumbs under thy table. But thou art the
same Lord, Whose property is always to have mercy: Grant
us therefore, gracious Lord, So to eat the flesh of thy dear Son Jesus Christ,
And to drink his blood, That we may evermore dwell in him, And he in us.
Amen.
O Lamb of God, that takest away the sin of the world: have mercy upon us. O Lamb of God, that takest away the sin of the world: have mercy upon us. O Lamb of God, that takest away the sin of the world: grant us thy peace.
Celebrant: The Gifts of God for the People of God. All: Thanks be to God.
COMMUNION (Tell Out My Soul)
PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION
Faithful God, in this sacrament we receive the promise of salvation. May we,
like the Virgin Mary, be obedient to your will. We ask this in the name of
Jesus Christ the Lord . Amen.
Glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we
can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the
Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen.

PROCESSIONAL HYMN 88 Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus
Come, thou long expected Jesus, born to set thy people free:
From our fears and sins release us, let us find our rest in thee.
Israel’s strength and consolation, hope of all the earth thou art,
Dear desire of every nation, joy of every longing heart.
Born thy people to deliver; born a child and yet a King;
Born to reign in us for ever; now thy gracious kingdom bring.
By thine own eternal Spirit rule in all our hearts alone;
By thine all sufficient merit raise us to thy glorious throne.
OPENING PRAYER
Officiant: Almighty God, you have given us this season of holy joy and today
we remember the birth of your Son when the heavenly host sang your
praises. We bow before you with adoring reverence and lift our hearts with

and enable us to join in the angels’ song, “Glory to God in the highest

Jesus demonstrated self-giving love in his ministry as the Good Shepherd.
Through his Incarnation, Jesus became love, not only through his own

for kindness, thinking of others, and sharing with others. It is a time to love
others as God has loved us. As God is love, let us be love also. In the Gospel

14
All: By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for
one another.” (John 13:34-35)

NARRATION COME AND WORSHIP
Angels from the realms of glory, wing your flight o’er all the earth;
Ye who sang creation’s story, now proclaim Messiah’s birth:
Come and worship, come and worship. Worship Christ the newborn
King.
O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant, o come ye, o come ye to
Bethlehem!
Come and behold him, born the king of angels; o come let us adore him,
Christ, the Lord.
O come and worship Christ the Lord, the holy Living Word!
Messiah King has come to dwell, our Lord, Emmanuel..
O come and worship heaven’s King. Lift up your voice and sing!
The gift of God to Israel, God’s grace and truth revealed!
Come and worship, Christ, the newborn King!
HYMN 116 Your Kingdom Come On Bended Knee
"Your kingdom come"- on bended knee the passing ages pray;
And faithful souls have yearned to see on earth that kingdom's day.
But the slow watches of the night not less to God belong;
And for the everlasting right the silent stars are strong.
And lo, already on the hills the flags of dawn appear;
Gird up your loins, you prophet souls, proclaim the day is near:
NARRATION OUR HOPE IS IN EMMANUEL
The time has come, as the prophets foretold, to prepare for the soon
coming King.
He will bring us new love, and will fill our hearts with light,
and will vanquish the darkness from night.
15
Refrain: Our hope is in Emmanuel, the Promised One, God’s holy Son.
Our hope is in Emmanuel, the One who has come to save.
We have patiently waited for the King to appear, and bring us hope, joy,
and peace.
Now we wipe away our tears, and no longer stand in fear,
for we know that salvation draws near!
Refrain; O come, o come, Emmanuel, our Messiah, Emmanuel.
HYMN 89 O Come, O Come, Emmanuel
O come, O come, Emmanuel and ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here, until the Son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to you, O Israel!
O come, O Wisdom from on high who orders all things, mightily;
To us the path of knowledge show and teach us in her ways to go.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to you, O Israel!
O come, O Dayspring from oh high and come us by your drawing nigh
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night and death’s dark shadow put to flight.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel Shall come to you, O Israel!
NARRATION WAITING AND LONGING
Waiting, waiting, we’re waiting for Emmanuel.
Waiting, waiting, for God to come to Israel.
We have waited long to sing the endless song:
“God shall come to earth in a humble birth.”
We are waiting for Emmanuel.
Longing, longing, we’re longing for Emmanuel.
Longing, longing, for God to come to Israel.
From Bethlehem so small the Lord shall come for all.
Prepare, make straight the way for the joyous day!
We are longing for Emmanuel.
O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep, the silent stars go by.
From thee shall come Emmanuel, the everlasting Light!
From thee shall come the King of Kings to pierce our darkest night.
Waiting, waiting, we’re waitng for Emmanuel.
Longing, longing, we’re longing for Emmanuel
16
HYMN 114 Lo, He Comes With Clouds Descending
Lo, He comes with clouds descending, once for favoured sinners slain;
Thousand thousand saints attending swell the triumph of his train:
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah,! God appears on earth to reign.
Now redemption, long expected, see in solemn pomp appear;
All his saints, on earth rejected, thrill the trumpet sound to hear:
Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Hallelujah,! See the day of God appear.
NARRATION MY SOUL DOTH MAGNIFY THE LORD
My soul doth magnify the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour,
For He has been mindful of me and I will ever be His humble servant.
My soul doth magnify the Lord.
I am humbled that the Lord would choose me
To be the father for His Son. I am just a man,
Help me understand how I fit into this sov’reign plan.
My soul doth magnify the Lord; my spirit rejoices in God, my Saviour.
For He is our strength and our song and we will ever sing of His amazing
love.
And we will praise the Holy One and sing of wondrous things He’s done.
He is holy. My soul doth magnify the Lord.
HYMN Magnificat – Anglican Chant by Havergal
My soul doth magnify the Lord,
And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour,
For he hath regarded the lowliness of his handmaiden.
For behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
for he that is mighty hath magnified me; and holy is his name.
And his mercy is on them that fear him throughout all generations,
He hath showed strength with his arm;
He hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
He hath put down the mighty from their seat,
And hath exalted the humble and meek.
He hath filled the hungry with good things;
And the rich he hath sent empty away.
He remembering his mercy hath holpen his servant Israel;
as he promised to our forefathers, Abraham and his seed for ever.
17
NARRATION CHRIST IS BORN IN BETHLEHEM
Holy Child, Heaven’s Child, Son of God now come to earth;
Child of hope, Child of peace, Christ is born in Bethlehem.
Holy Child, promised Child, come and celebrate His birth!
Child of love, Child of joy, Christ is born in Bethlehem.
Angels had foretold His coming, heaven’s gift to all the world!
A lowly stable now the birthplace for Messiah, King, our Lord!
Holy Child, Manger Child, King of Kings of noble birth.
Child of light, Child of grace, Christ is born in Bethlehem.
Gloria, Gloria in excelsis Deo! Holy Child, Heaven’s Child.
Christ is born in Bethlehem.
O holy child of Bethlehem, descend to us, we pray;
Cast out our sin, and enter in, be born in us today.
We hear the Christmas angels the great glad tidings tell;
O come to us, abide with us, our Lord Emmanuel.
Holy Child, Heaven’s Child, Christ is born in Bethlehem.
HYMN 121 O Little Town of Bethlehem
O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by;
Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light;
The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.
For Christ is born of Mary; and, gathered all above,
While mortals sleep, the angels keep their watch of wondering love.
O morning stars, together proclaim the holy birth!
And praises sing to God the King, and peace to men on earth.
NARRATION RUN, SHEPHERDS
Refrain:
Run, shepherds, run and see the baby! Run, shepherds, to Bethlehem.
Run, shepherds, run and see the baby, see the baby born the great I AM!
There’s a star in the east on Christmas morn.
It will lead to the place where the Saviour’s born.
If you take good heed to the angel’s words,
you’ll forget your flocks, you’ll forget your herds. Refrain
18
HYMN Go, Tell It On The Mountain
Refrain:
Go, tell it on the mountain, over the hills and everywhere,
Go, tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born.
While shepherds kept their watching o’er silent flocks by night,
Behold, throughout the heavens there shone a holy light. Refrain
The shepherds feared and trembled when lo, above the earth
rang out the angel chorus that hailed the Saviour’s birth! Refrain
Down in a lonely manger the humble Christ was born.
And God sent our salvation that blessed Christmas morn. Refrain
NARRATION CRADLE CAROL
Before the paling of the stars, before the winter morn,
Before the earliest dove could sing, Jesus Christ was born.
Priest and King lay fast asleep in Jerusalem,
Young and old in slumber deep in crowded Bethlehem.
Refrain: Born in a stable, cradled in a manger,
In the world His hands had made, Jesus, born on this day.
Still, still, still, He sleeps this night so chill.
While angel hosts from heav’n come winging,
Sweetest songs of joy are singing,
Still, still, still, He sleeps this night so chill. Refrain
HYMN 126 Away In a Manger
Away in a manger, No crib for his bed,
The little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head.
The stars in the bright sky looked down where he lay,
The little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.
The cattle are lowing, the baby awakes,
The little Lord Jesus no crying he makes.
I love thee, Lord Jesus- look down from on high
And stay by my side until morning is nigh.
Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask thee to stay
Close by me for ever, and love me I pray.
Bless all the dear children in your tender care,
And fit us for heaven to live with you there.

NARRATION BETHLEHEM’S CHILD
Once in royal David’s city stood a lowly cattle shed,
Where a mother laid her baby in a manger for His bed.
Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ her little child.
He came down to earth from heaven, who is God and Lord of all.
And His shelter was a stable, and His cradle was a stall.
With the poor and meek and lowly lived on earth our Saviour holy.
And our eyes at last shall see Him, through His own redeeming love;
For that Child, so dear and gentle, is our Lord in heav’n above.
And He leads His children on to the place where He has gone.
In Bethlehem the Lord was born, this Child of David’s line,
Our Saviour, He is Christ the Lord, God’s gift to human kind.
All glory be to God on high and to the earth be peace;
Good will henceforth from heav’n to all begin and never cease.
Come and worship Christ the newborn King, the King!
OFFERTORY HYMN 136 While Shepherds Watched Their Flocks
While shepherds watched their flocks by night, all seated on the ground,
The angel of the Lord came down, and glory shone around.
“Fear not, said he, for mighty dread had seized their troubled mind,
“Glad tidings of great joy I bring to you and all mankind.
“To you, in David’s town this day is born of David’s line,
The Saviour, who is Christ the Lord; and this shall be the sign.
“The heav’nly Babe you there shall find to human view displayed,
All meanly wrapped in swathing bands, and in a manger laid.
Thus spake the seraph; and forthwith appeared a shining throng
Of angels praising God, who thus addressed their joyful song.
“All glory be to God on high, and to the world be peace;
Good will henceforth from heaven to earth begin, and never cease.”
THE PRAYERS
Gracious God, by the power of the Spirit who sanctified the mother of your
Son, make holy all we offer you this day. We ask this in the name of Jesus
Christ the Lord . Amen.

Amen.
