Canterlopes Submitted By: Jackie McClintic

The Loudoun 4-H Canterlopes have had much success at recent state competitions. Seven-teen club members attended the Virginia State 4-H Championships Horse Show on September 14-17 in Lexington, VA with many good placings. Placings of note were: Stephanie Cordell-High Point Dressage Rider, and Morgan Allard-Champion Hunter Pleasure S/M Pony, Sr. Rider. There were several members who earned Reserve Champion in their respective divisions as well. Members worked very hard throughout the 4-H year with their project horses and were rewarded by their successes, both in high placings and personal achievements. On October 8, six club members traveled to Doswell, VA to compete in the Virginia State 4-H Horse Show Drill Team Competition at the Virginia State Fair. The team overcame several hardships, including a last-minute substitu-tion due to injury, and was able to take first place in both the Compulsory and Freestyle Competi-tions. These wins earned them the High Point Drill Team Award as well. At our October meeting, we welcomed many new members & elected our officers. Congratulations to our new senior officers: President: Andrea McMann Vice President: Calle Junker Treasurer: Marissa Jones Secretary: Stephanie Cordell We also began plans for our new year, starting with our first outing to Washington Inter-national Barn Night on October 26. We look forward to seeing what these talented youth have in store for the next 4-H year!

Temple Hall Non-Ownership Sheep Submitted By: Troy Smith

On October 4th our club had our first meeting of the new year. We had a high turn out for members this year which was exciting! Each of our four wonderful farms is now at a capacity of 30 members! With these wonderful new members, we discussed new and old business including our new committees that will be run by the members of our club. We hope it will give them a chance to gain leadership skills and help advance the club. These committees include: the Fund-raising Committee, Public Relations Committee, Community Service Committee and Education Committee. We are excited to see how well our members will lead and push the club forward. Our own member Lilly from Old Orchard Farm presented her phenomenal idea of a whole farm market lamb to help benefit charity, which was liked by many of our members and the farmer who attended the meeting. The club hopes that she gains enough support to be able to present her idea to the Fair Committee. During the meeting we celebrated National 4-H week with an adorable cake that had our sheep club logo. On October 21st and 22nd Willow Hawk Farm and Davlin Farm volunteered to participate in the Farm Tour, which our lovely members also participated in. It seems as if this year is getting off to a great start and we’re all excited to work hard this year.

Swine Club members would like to congratulate Camryn Monroe on being elected President and Adam Jewell for assuming the role of Vice President. The club is excited to see what new direction they will take us in. That mystery should start to be revealed at the November meeting. The Swine Club hopes everyone had a happy Halloween!

Rabbit Hopping

Submitted By: Anna Kasianides

On October 6, the Rabbit Hopping Club met and discussed their Constitution, Bylaws, and Club Rules. Later in the meeting, Mrs. Burns provided a presentation on rabbit housing. There was a slide show on how to house rabbits properly. The housing presentation gave a variety of ideas on how to endeavor to meet the needs of your rabbit.

On October 7, our club went to the Joshua’s Hands Festival. We were able to interact

with the public and talk to people about 4-H and how to care for your rabbit. The club brought

jumps for the rabbits to demonstrate how to hop your rabbit. Everyone loved petting the rab-

bits and everyone (including the bunnies) had a good time!

At our last club meeting we introduced the new year and reviewed club roles. Our club hosted firemen to teach us basic fire-safety rules. For example: stop, drop & roll. Next, the firemen gave a demonstration on how to suit up in their gear. Overall, their gear can weigh 70 pounds! Then we did a question and answer on a fireman’s job. Finally, the firemen let anyone interested visit the inside of their truck.
