The 2018 show will take place March 16 – 18, 2018 at the I-X Center with ‘When Cleveland Rocks, Auto-Rama Rolls” as the theme. The Auto-Rama will go bumper to bumper with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony by welcoming the event back to Cleveland when it returns in April 2018. The show will start taking applications on July 10, 2017. Application will be available at Summit Racing Equipment in Tallmadge, Ohio or on on-line at pistonpowershow.com.

The International Master Bike Builders Association (IMBBA) and Thunder Roads Ohio magazine teamed up to add some extra power to the show. The alliance once again brought the IMBBA and their judges to Piston Powered Auto-Rama to judge all the motorcycles in 13 classes along with the Duck Award, “Best in Show” and Pro Builders class of bikes. Awards were given out to both pro builders and enthusiasts in an effort to select the best of the best. In 2016, Cole Rogers won the National Competition in Cleveland, Ohio.

“The 2017 Summit Racing Equipment I-X Piston Powered Auto-Rama was a huge success and the motorcycles that were at the show were at a whole different level from 2016,” said Executive Vice President, Bill Perrien. “Hosting the IMBBA Championship increases the intensity of the competition between the bike builders that came from all points in Ohio, Indiana, Canada, Pennsylvania and Florida and individuals that compete for the $5,000 top prize.”

Local car clubs competed for Best Car Club where the winning club took home the $300 grand prize while the four runner-up club received the Outstanding Club Award and $150. Car Clubs themed their areas as Vintage Gas Stations or Drive-In Movie Theaters. PISTON POWERED PROPELLERS ARE IN THIS SHOW Making a landing at Piston Powered Auto-Rama was Miss Virginia presented by The Ohio Lottery. Miss Virginia began life with the Army Air Force in 1944. The plane performed a variety of missions from 1944 until 1975, including troop transport, special weapons center, aircraft R&D, and the National Guard. When the plane retired from military service, it entered civilian life with Wycliffe Bible Translators and Jungle Aviation and Radio Service (JAARS), and spent many years in the jungles of Colombia. In 1990, the plane was purchased for commercial operation by Dynamic Aviation who

modified it for mosquito and gypsy moth spraying. It was eventually retired again in 1999.

The South Hall Hot Rod Asylum, hosted by the Slick Devils Car Club, featured vehicles including cars, trucks, hot rods and motorcycles that are Kustoms, Nostalgic Race Cars and/or have a nostalgic appearance. A separate awards ceremony once again crowned more champions on Saturday with nine custom made trophies. Along with awarding “Best in Show,” the winner also received a trophy, their own commemorative "Straight Jacket” and will have their name added to the South Hall Asylum's "Straight Jacket.” Every year, the Slick Devils identify 12 Hot Rods/ Kustoms that are exceptional examples of what the South Hall Hot Rod Asylum is all about. Whether the car is a fresh build or a barn fresh survivor, the cars are some of the best the traditional Hot Rod world has to offer. Winners included:

IF KIDS MAKE IT GO, THEY ARE IN THIS SHOW!!! The Summit Racing Equipment Pedal Car Challenge was another opportunity for a team of students to get involved at the show. They applied their technical skills in a hands-on project, which involved planning, design, creativity, productivity and resourcefulness. Qualifying schools were given one Hot Rod Pedal Car from Genuine Hotrod Hardware, Inc., for their students to customize at the show. The object was to create an award winning pedal car, fully finished and painted, for display, judging and auction. The auction took place on Saturday, March 18th at 7:00 pm with all proceeds from the auction returned to the participating schools. Students participating in Student Career Day at the show were given the chance to learn their ABC’s by: Attending Student Career Day: Building a Pedal Car in the Summit Racing Pedal Car Contest: Competing at the Hot Rodders of Tomorrow Engine Challenge. Students that attended had a chance to meet renowned car builders, industry representatives and sponsors. The Student Career Day program was developed, in conjunction with the ISCA, in an effort to introduce high school, vocational and college automotive students to the aftermarket hot rod industry. Student Career Day takes place at various Auto-Rama shows and other ISCA-sanctioned events throughout the United States. Every school participating in the Student Career Day was eligible to win an ESAB ET 141i AC/DC Welding System. The 2017 winning school was Cuyahoga Valley Career Center.

Cleveland Soap Box Derby

The Cleveland Soap Box Derby Indoor Rally Track produced even more champions. Cleveland has a rich history with Soap Box Derby Racing as one of three cities with races dating back to 1934. The indoor rally track is a chance to see and experience the racing up close. The Cleveland Soap Box Derby is a non-profit organization of volunteers that promotes the sport of Soap Box Derby Racing in Cleveland and its suburbs.

Charley Hutton appeared all weekend long at the PPG Display Area: Hutton also has received several Street Rod of the Year, Custom Rod of the Year and America’s Most Beautiful Roadster awards as well as many other top prizes. He established his painting credentials early in his career with appearances on the Discovery Channel’s "American Hot Rod," TLC’s "Overhaulin’" and Hot Rod TV. Hutton uses PPG Automotive Refinish products exclusively. Special Motorcycle Guest: Ron Finch: Ron Finch has been building custom motorcycles since 1965, when he opened Finch’s Custom Styled Cycles. His unique artistry in metal sculpture is internationally recognized for its creativity and has focused on motorcycles for most of his life. His customs have been appreciated by art lovers in prestigious museums and art galleries and in shows throughout the U.S. and in Germany, France, Sweden, and the Netherlands. Ron’s historic 1969 Panhead chopper, named “Odin’s Axle” was even exhibited in the Clinton Presidential Library - and will be featured at this year's show. His work has been featured in hundreds of magazines and has earned him the “Biker Blacksmith” Award for extreme metal fabrication (Las Vegas Biker Build-Off Finale, 2005) and “The Lifetime Achievement Award” (V-Twin Bikers Ball, Daytona Beach). In 2008, Finch exhibited a dozen custom motorcycles in the Milwaukee Art Museum during the celebration of Harley Davidson’s 105th Anniversary. In 2010, during the 70th Anniversary of the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Ron Finch was inducted into the Master Bike Builders Hall of Fame by the International Master Bike Builders Association. Special Motorcycle Guest: Stacey Bortz: World’s Fas test Women on a Street Legal Harley: Stacey Bortz is a true racing junkie and inspiration to riders – both men and women. She tears down the ¼ mile in 9.40’s, regularly hitting around 145 mph plus. She currently holds several AMRA Hot Street Class National Speed Records including 148.23 mph in the quarter and 122.23 mph in the 1/8 mile. She is the first woman to ever race in AMRA’s Hot Street or Outlaw Street Classes. To date, she’s had the quickest (elapsed time) and fasted (mph) passes by any woman on a street Harley in any sanctioned race.

THE PINSTRIPERS THAT ARE IN THIS SHOW, MAKE IT GO T O CHARITY The Summit Racing Equipment I-X Piston Powered Auto-Rama set a new record this year by raising over $35,000 for Krazy Paint’s charitable partner, The Career and Technical School Foundation (CTSF). The annual event held during the Piston Powered Auto-Rama brought together pinstripers and other automotive artists creating Hot Rod Art, which is sold and auctioned off throughout the weekend festivities. This year’s show raised $35,676 for the CTSF to help kids. “Once again, our Krazy Painters knocked it out of the park,” said John ‘JC’ Carollo from Krazy Paint. “This time, they raised almost $10,000 more than last year. Our artists love coming to this show and rank it their favorite.”

With 70 painters from all over North America, everything from fine art panels to toilet seats were painted. This year, Krazy Paint 425 pieces of Kustom Kulture art were sold, continuing the Piston Powered Auto-Rama as the place for collectors to purchase the highly popular art form. As Von Dago, a world renowned pinstriper who create s his own brushes and pinstriping supplies said via Facebook after the show: ..."Krazy Paint and es pecially the Cleveland IX Center is the 8th wonder of the World :-) ~ and should be on Every Pinstripers bucket list!!!!!!!!"

THE SHOW SUPPORTS OUR VETERANS AND HONOR THEM AS CH AMPIONS Ohio, home to more than 67,000 female veterans were recognized and celebrated all weekend long at the show. The Navy, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, Ohio Military Reserve, Young Marines, VA Women’s Health Program, VSO, USO, DAV, VFW, VVA and the 50th Commemoration of the Vietnam War stood guard at the show as they collected donations benefitting female Veterans at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center and Outpatient Clinics. Guest Speaker, Kristina Marie Jones, RN, BSN, MPH & TM; Program Manager at the VA Women’s Health Clinic, addressed the crowd on Saturday at the show.

MORE CHAMPIONS ARE PROCLAIMED Tony Hill Lifetime Achievement Award On Saturday, March 18, during the Hot Rod Asylum Awards Ceremony, Gerald R. "Jerry" Koenigsmark Sr. was recognized with a proclamation from the State of Ohio as the recipients of the 2017 Tony Hill Lifetime Achievement Award. The award recognizes individuals who have shown a true commitment to the automobile community and displayed activism in the industry, which made a positive difference. Honoring the Late John Shapiro To kick off the ISCA Awards ceremony on Sunday, March 19, the show honored the Founder and former Publisher of Cruisin’ Times Magazine, John Shapiro. “John was a great partner of the show and more importantly a friend that helped and advised us on how to take the show to new heights,” said Show Manager, Steve Legerski. “Every year, John would go to car shows and pick out the Cruisin' Times All Stars that are featured at the show. That tradition will continue as we have re-named that area and feature "The John Shapiro Cruisin' Times All Stars" for the 2017 show and forward.”

The Ohio Motor Pool in conjunction with the Military Vehicle Preservation Association (MVPA) had a huge display of military vehicles for show-goers to see and touch. The MVPA will be back at the I-X Center as part of the 42nd Annual MVPA Convention, which will be held in conjunction with the Cleveland Tank Plant Homecoming Military Show and Swap Meet, June 22 – 24, 2017. The show will feature vehicles built at the former tank plant including the M41 Walker Bulldog Tank, M42 Duster, M56 Scorpion, M108 and M109 self-propelled howitzers and M114 and M551 Sheridan armored vehicles. Also featured in the show are military aircrafts, the Liberty Air Museum’s B-25J Mitchell, “Georgie’s Gal,” along with other member-owned aircraft. Known originally as the Cleveland Bomber Plant, and adjoining the Cleveland Hopkins International Airport, the building’s large doors are still in place and operational, allowing the display of flying military vehicles on the floor with the show’s ground-bound vehicles.

The International Exposition (I-X) Center in Cleveland, Ohio is one of the nation’s premier exhibition facilities.
