The Trumpet From the Pastor’s Heart . Who taught you to pray? Is your prayer life where you would like it to be? If you increase the time you spend in prayer, what do you think will happen? What do you believe about the power of prayer? This Lenten season at CTK we’ll be reflecting on these questions and more with the book Learning to Pray Again by Bishop Michael Rinehart, a slim volume with 40 chapters (each only a page or two) that offer reflections and explain different prayer practices. It’s a practical, powerful book meant to help you deepen your prayer life. We started digging into the book during our congregational retreat last fall and will continue during Lent. This Lenten season, I’m extending a friendly challenge to all of you: Read a chapter of Learning to Pray Again each day for the 40 days of Lent (March 1-April 15, with Sundays off). Our congregational sabbatical funds allow us to purchase copies at no cost to the congregation. Contact the church office if you’d like a copy. I’m also offering short-term small group opportunities for those who’d like to meet weekly to talk about the book together. Sign up to get to know new people, deepen relationships, and hold yourself accountable to reading the book every day! Sign up at church, through the church office, or at this link: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080d4ca9af22a0fa7-ctk2017. If you’re cur- rently in a CTK small group, I encourage your group to read the book together this season. Small group discussion helps are found in the back of the book. Each Wednesday evening during Lent we’ll gather for soup suppers, then worship together using the beloved Holden Evening Prayer liturgy including reflections on Learning to Pray Again. I look forward to witnessing how God will show us the power of prayer in the next 40 days.
