The 1st Hong Kong International Chromatic Harmonica Competition 2022 The competition is an unprecedented and multi-faceted musical event presented by the Hong Kong Harmonica Association. Held in 4 stages, the Competition identifies the new generation of emerging talents. Not only is it the first ever harmonica competition event that features a full orchestra, but the total scale of the prize pool is also unprecedented. Winner of the Competition would be awarded a cash prize of HK$100,000. (equivalent to approximately US$13,000 or 10,000 Euro) Eligibility Open to applicants of all nationalities who were born between 1982 and 2004. Stage 1: Preliminary Format: Held off-site through submission of video recordings. Deadline of Online Application: 31 March 2021 24 contestants will be shortlisted in May 2021 and invited to take part in

the Competition in Hong Kong in late April 2022. 【REGISTER Now!】

Stage 2: Quarter-final The 24 contestants will then proceed to the competition in the Quarter-final on the first and second days of the Competition. The format is harmonica solo with and without piano accompaniment. Local professional pianists will be invited to provide the service of piano accompaniment. Stage 3: Semi-final Eight contestants will be shortlisted and enter into the Semi-final on the fourth day. The format is harmonica solo with string ensemble. Local string ensembles will provide accompaniment to the contestants.

Stage 4: Final Four contestants will be selected to go to the Final on the last day. Finalists will perform with the accompaniment of the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong (CCOHK).

Trip Sponsor The 24 qualified contestants for the final round (i.e. Stage 2-4) who need to travel from overseas countries to Hong Kong will receive a trip sponsor from the organiser. These include complimentary hotel stay for up to 9 nights and coverage of flight cost of up to HK$5,000.

Jury Panel The Jury of the Competition includes musicians or persons in the music profession who are locally and internationally recognised for their expertise, competence, integrity and fairness. With high acclaims, the members of the Jury are prominent artists and distinguished experts in the realm of chromatic harmonica and in other music professions.
