Special stitches : puff st - (to start st, sl st into sp, pull up yarn to the height of a dc) (yarn over, insert hook into sp, pick up a loop) 4 more times, yarn over and pull through all 11 loops, ch 1. Note : (ch 1 is part of the puff st)

V puff st - puff st, ch 3, puff st into same sp

Instructions :

Round 1 : mc, ch 6, (dc into loop, ch 3) repeat 5 times. Sl st into beginning of 3rd ch. (Total 6 dc, 6 ch 3)

Round 2 : Sl st into any ch 3 sp, (V puff st into same sp, ch 1) repeat 5 more times. Sl st into top of 1st puff st. (Total 6 V puff st, 6 ch 1)

Round 3 : Sl st into any ch 3 sp, (V puff st into same sp, ch 1, puff st into the next ch 1 sp, ch) repeat 5 more times. Sl st into top of 1st puff st. (Total 6 V puff st, 6 puff st, 12 ch 1)

Round 4 is Joining Round : Motifs are joined as you go. Round 4 (First motif) the first dc you can do a standing dc or sl st ch 3 : start at sp between any V puff st,(4 dc, ch 3, 4 dc into same sp, 2 dc into the next sp, ch 1, 2 dc into the next sp) repeat 5 more times. Sl st into the top of the 1st dc. (Total 6 x 8 dc, 6 ch 3, 6 x 4 dc, 6 ch 1)

Round 4 (for joining motifs) the first dc you can do a standing dc or sl st ch 3 : start at sp between any V puff st, 4 dc, ch 1, sl st into ch 3 sp of joining motif, ch 1, 4 dc into the same sp, 2 dc into the next sp, sl st into joining motif’s ch 1 sp, 2 dc into next sp) repeat 5 more times, sl st into top of 1st dc. *Tip on joining motifs: Replace ch 1 and 2nd ch of corners to a sl st to join an adjacent motif. When joining a 3rd motif to 2 other motifs, sl st across 1st and 2nd motif to join.

Hexagons are laid out and joined during the 4th round with pointed ends facing top/down, worked from left to right (10 rows across, 11 rows down. 01-10 is 1st row, 11-20 is 2nd row, 21-30 is 3rd row….) *Last motif is made with remaining assorted colors of surrounding colors. If you run out of the colors that I listed, pick similar shades to finish off the motif. Number : Color of round 1/round 2,3/round4.

Cushion Cover:

Final size varies according to remaining yarn left. Split the yarn into 2 groups of similar weight approximately so that both sides of the cushion cover will match in size. Start with a base chain using sc. Work the top and bottom sides of the first row to grow your rainbows. (I randomly arranged a strong rainbow group color and a lighter rainbow group color. The browns and whites are taken out for border and stitching respectively.) I would recommend to work both pieces simultaneously so you can swop colors as you crochet along to match both sides in size. I used the whites to cross stitch a heart on each rainbow. The browns are used to join and border. Enjoy!
