Information“Be joyful always; pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is
God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” I Thessalonians 5:16-18
Thanksgiving is a wonderful time to focus on this commandment. But for the past few months, God has been teaching me to grow beyond just thanking God each November. When thanksgiving becomes a way of life, our entire lives will be changed. Instead of being ruled by our circumstances, we begin seeing God as Sovereign Lord, Provider, and Protector. To help your family and mine begin this life changing process, I have created this Thanksgiving Activity Workbook.
Objectives: 1. To place God at the center of the Thanksgiving holiday. 2. For the child to understand how much God has done for him or her and why God is worthy of
praise. 3. To teach the child various ways to praise God. 4. For family use, to create traditions that draw a family together. 5. To “impress” Christ on the child (Deuteronomy 6:7).
Supplies:1. The ideas and printables included in this Workbook. 2. Supplies for each week’s suggested activities. Feel free to supplement or substitute with items
already available in your home or classroom.
Instructions:Psalm 100 is one of the most popular chapters for praising God. For this reason, this Workbook centers around memorizing this psalm using a storyboard and actions. Weekly crafts, songs, and activities promote learning. Beginning in Week 3, a Thanksgiving Tree will be created to develop an ongoing list of praises.
Because you may not be familiar with the traditional songs used in this Workbook, videos have been created to allow you to hear each song and see the actions. Your child will enjoy singing with Ms. Heidi! QR codes and links to these videos are provided with each lesson.
Each idea may be exchanged for another that better suits your family, classroom, and traditions. Also, while written to be used in November, this workbook can be used any time of year. Depending on the age of your child, some of these verses and concepts will be difficult to grasp. That is okay and expected! Remember that you are laying a foundation of truth. Adjust the information to make it age appropriate for your child or students.

INTRO
Write the word Thanksgiving on a piece of paper. Ask older children to find the two words creating the compound word. Underline the word “Thanks” in one color and the word “giving” in another. We are to give thanks. Discuss to whom we should be giving thanks. [God]
Ask “Why do we give thanks to God?”. [We give thanks to God because He created us and He desires for us to have a relationship with Him. Giving thanks is one way to worship and praise God. Also, a thankful heart sees God in all circumstances – whether peaceful or difficult.]
Discuss when and where we can give thanks to God. [Ephesians 5:20 says to “Give thanks always and for everything.”]
Ask “How do we show God that we are thankful?” [Examples: Prayer, serving others, not always wanting more, taking good care of what we already have.]
Say “One way to give thanks to God is to praise Him through memorizing and quoting Scripture. This month, we are going to memorize Psalm 100, a psalm of praise to God. This will help us have a thankful heart. Let’s read through the entire chapter.” (Read from the Bible or page 4.)
Explain what you will do each week. [Each week we will learn a new section of Psalm 100. To help us memorize the verses we are going to use pictures and actions. As we learn the psalm, we will post the pictures to the wall/doors/window to create a storyboard. The images will help us remember what words are next. We will add movements to the words as well.]
Use the following discussion questions to explain Thanksgiving and Psalm 100. Go into more or less depth depending on the child’s age.

Open a can of crescent rolls. (For best results use a higher-fat-content roll so the thankful stripes don’t stick.) Cut strips of paper that are approximately 1/2” x 3”. With a pencil write or draw a picture of something that you are thankful for. Roll the crescent rolls into triangle shapes. Place one thankful strip into each roll. Loosely wrap the roll into crescent shape. (Tightly rolling will make the paper stick.) Bake according to directions. Allow to cool before breaking open.
Directions:On a piece of orange construction paper turned horizontally, draw 7 vertical lines 1 1/2” apart. Have the child cut the strips apart. Lay the strips in a pile. With a hole punch create holes in the same spot of each strip both at the top and bottom. Thread a green pipe cleaner through the top and bottom holes. Bend the bottom portion of the pipe cleaner to keep the strips on and then rotate the strips to create a round pumpkin. Using green construction paper, cut two green leaves. Punch a hole through the leaves. Thread onto the green pipe cleaner at the top of the pumpkin. Curl the remaining pipe cleaner around a pencil to
