Terrific List of Songs and Fingerplays You Might Like to Share: I’M A GREAT BIG TURKEY (Tune: “I’m A Little Teapot”) I’m a great big turkey ‘Cause I’m well fed. Watch me spread my feathers. Watch me bob my head. When I strut around I waddle, waddle, waddle. And when I talk I “gobble, gobble, gobble”. I’m a great big turkey And I’d love to stay. But Thanksgiving’s coming. So it’s time to run away! Jean Warren TURKEYS ALL AROUND (Tune: "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star") Turkeys, turkeys all around On the fence, on the ground. On the haystack, on the chair. All around, everywhere. Turkeys, turkeys all around. Gobble, gobble what a sound! Jean Warren WALK LIKE A TURKEY (A movement rhyme) Walk like a turkey, Waddle, waddle, waddle. Talk like a turkey, Gobble, gobble, gobble. Run like a turkey ‘Round and ‘round. But when it’s Thanksgiving Don’t make a sound! Jean Warren Thanksgiving Song (Sung to: "Twinkle, twinkle little star") Let’s be thankful for this day For our friends and for our play Let’s be thankful; lets be glad For the food and things we have Let’s give thanks for you and me And our home and family If You're Thankful (Sung to: "If You're Happy & You Know It") If you're thankful and you know it clap your hands If you're thankful and you know it clap your hands If you're thankful and you know it Then your face will surely show it If you're thankful and you know it clap your hands! Thankful (Sung to: "Frere Jacques") I am thankful, I am thankful Yes I am Yes I am Thank you for my mommy, Thank you for my daddy, And our food, and our food

Five Little Turkeys 5 little turkeys by the barn door (hold up open hand) 1 saw some corn and then there were 4 (fold down one finger) 4 little turkeys flew up a tree (fly 4 fingers into the air) 1 fell down and then there were 3 (one finger falls to the ground) 3 little turkeys gobbled as they do (hold up 3 fingers) A dog chased 1 and then there were 2 (left hand chases 1 finger on right hand) 2 little turkeys strutting in the sun (hold up 2 fingers) The wind came along and then there was 1 (make wind movement with left hand) 1 little turkey began to run (1 finger runs) For he saw the farmer and now there are none. (left hand grabs right hand)

The Turkey A turkey I saw on thanksgiving, Her tail was spread so wide. Shhh....don't tell that you've seen her, For she's running away to hide (make fist for turkey & spread fingers of other hand for tail, Make a shhh sound)

Turkey Feathers (Sung to: "Are you Sleeping?") Turkey feathers, turkey feathers Brightly colored, brightly colored Who has a red one? Who has a red one? Add it now. Add it now. Little Pilgrim The children hold up one finger for each added pilgrim, beginning with a closed fist. Pilgrim, pilgrim, run and play, Where do you want to play today? The first little pilgrim slides down the slide, He just wants to play outside. The second little pilgrim reads books all day, she finds a quiet place to stay. The third little pilgrim climbs in a tree, she thinks it's a neat place to be. The fourth little pilgrim plays hide and seek, and he soon learns that he mustn't peek. The fifth little pilgrim just plays with his friends, they laugh and play until the day ends. Thanksgiving is Coming (Sung to: "Are you Sleeping" ) Roasted turkey, roasted turkey, Pumpkin pie, pumpkin pie, Thanksgiving is coming, Thanksgiving is coming, By and by, by and by.
