The Germantown Community Scholarship Fund (GCSF) exists to help area students achieve their goals and live their dreams. We provide scholarship money to those graduates who will continue their education at a college, university or a vocational/technical school.

The GCSF trust fund was initiated in 1981 by a donation from the Germantown Rotary Club in the amount of $10,000. A $200,000 donation in 1990 from the Germantown Volunteer Fire Company greatly increased the trust fund. The remaining scholarships are funded by donations from annual fundraising events, businesses, service organizations and individuals.

This year’s graduating seniors are the fortunate recipients of funds raised at a successful online appeal, investment income from our Endowment Fund, and the generosity of 29 Named Scholarship Donors enabling GCSF to award $148,147 to these students. We sincerely thank all who contributed or helped in any way to offer these awards.

GCSF ENDOWMENT CAMPAIGN

The Germantown Community Scholarship Fund (GCSF) embarked on an Endowment Fundraising Campaign in 2006, the 25th anniversary of its founding. As a non-profit organization, GCSF relies on charitable contributions to continue to meet its scholarship goals.

To help spread the word about GCSF’s Endowment Fundraising Campaign, events are held throughout the community to generate additional donations. This Spring, our online fundraising efforts collected $2,500 for the Endowment Fund. In addition, $29,000 was raised specifically for the scholarships awarded this year.

In total, since its inception, GCSF will have awarded more than $3.1 million in scholarships to 2,820 Germantown area students pursuing education at colleges, universities or vocational/technical schools.

The Endowment Fund is an investment that helps guarantee that GCSF’s work will continue for future generations. Please consider a contribution to GCSF’s Endowment Campaign as an investment in the future of our youth. To find out how you can help with this worthy cause, contact Glenn Schroeder, Board President at 262-993-5040 or by email, [email protected]. Information is also available on the Germantown Community Scholarship Fund’s website at www.GCSFund.org

GCSF was unable to hold an in-person fundraising event this spring, but our first-ever online appeal unveiled the true generosity of our community and was quite successful. We want to sincerely thank everyone listed for the tremendous impact they are making for the future of the 2021 Graduating Class.

In 2004, GCSF also recognized a need to support our Germantown School District teachers and staff in their efforts to help area students develop. Since starting the program GCSF has awarded $37,440 in grants. Community support and proceeds raised during the U.S. Bank Mud Splash--Run for Funds helps to raise money toward these Teacher Grants.

2020-21 GCSF Teacher Grant Awards

GCSF TEACHER GRANT PROGRAM

Jeff Thielke, Kennedy Middle School

Purchase of 2 Matter & Form 3D Scanners. This technology excites and motivates students, and enhances “Critical Thinking” skills. With High School students already having the opportunity of this educational experience, there is a need to offer it at the Middle School level.

Heidi Ludorf, Germantown High School

Classroom set of German Readers for beginners: Books will be used to give students a successful experience reading, writing, and speaking German in the first level of German study.

Lynn Collins, Mac Arthur Elementary

Materials to enhance the plant and insect unit: Growing plants with hands-on learning opportunities, learning about nutrition, making connections between growing food and diet. This allows for distribution of more plants per child and incorporates plants that the students recognize to give connection.

Tim Bauer, County Line Elementary School

Purchase of an iPad for his students in the classroom: Students can record videos, upload to their Google drive and be able to use the videos in projects, use the iPad for online instruction and mirror what they see on the screen to the smart board in the classroom. Students will be able to collaborate with other students on ideas and projects in the classroom versus needing to check out from the library.

Andy Waller, GEDO2 program (General Education Diploma option 2)

Purchase of video series called “Life Steps”: This program emphasizes the importance of resourcefulness, perseverance and an optimistic view of life. The program is developed by LIVE WIRE MEDIA and is sound in educational theory.

Jon O’Callaghan, Amy Belle Elementary

Photo/video classroom studio: This website is a way for students to keep a digital portfolio of their artwork from kindergarten to their senior year. It is also a great fundraiser for our program as each piece of artwork can be placed onto items that family members can purchase.
