Food Service Introductions and Demonstration: Catherine Vanderbrook Ashley West—new hire for food service department to elevate the food service program. Wants to do demo

with homemade salsa etc. We currently have fruit and vegetable carts at elementaries. Food is free off the

garden carts. At Lamar (18 raised beds!) the kids grab that food first, possibly because of ownership in growing

the veggies. The kids typically pick on Mondays and take the produce to the cafeteria ladies. Goal is to work

Sharon Levett- healthy fundraising options. Trying to empower parents to go to the PTA to encourage healthy

fundraising options. We want the message to be consistent. Encourage physical activity, positive messages, etc.

See handout for options to consider. The walk-a-thon is a favorite to increase physical activity AND raise money.

Seele has the Seele Stampede tomorrow. Fundraising activities have to go through Steve Brown.

Plan for ‘Control the Bleed’ Nurses trained, next admin, then staff development August

2016– Clay Gillentine Control the Bleed—a workshop will be held with admin and nurses originally, then eventually through the

remainder of staff. Projected date for workshop will be in August. Coordinated with CISD and EMS response

teams within our area. Challenge is how to control access between parents and students in an emergency event.

Wellness and Sexual Health –Parent meeting Friday April 22, 2016 6:00 pm at the

NBISD Education Center board room. All parents interested in learning more about the

program are invited. Wellness and Sexual Health—Dr. Briggs will be doing the presentation to the parents. Teachers and nurses are

providing the lecture to the students. April 22 the materials will be available to anyone who wants to view them

at the parent meeting. Curriculum is implemented in 6-9th grades. Medical and legal aspects are addressed by

professionals. Current thought is that the guest speakers will be addressing 8th and 9th grades.

Sportstime is awarding a grant for replacing sports equipment for schools who qualify.

Walnut Springs had a very successful biggest loser contest, 360 pounds cumulative. The

winner got a one year membership to the YMCA. The Y sent a staff person to the

campus to lead the teachers in “moving”. The Y hopes to grow the program next year.

They have discounted the cost of membership to district employees

Spring 2015 Campus Reports to SHAC

NBHS Staff invited to do Zumba twice a week. Kinetic Unicorn Club still active.

KRE - Our campus has begun gardening this year, and has several flower beds the students go out to weed, water, and tend to. - KRE had a biggest looser competition for the teachers to encourage healthy habits beginning this new year - Mileage club continues, and some students have completed as many as 68 miles. - A few teachers with fruit trees have provided fresh fruits in the teacher's lounge a few times over the past few months - A few community partners have come in to provide fitness lessons for the students. For example, J&R gymnastics and AAGI gymnastics came to provide stunts and tumbling lessons for 2 days, TbarM tennis ranch is coming out to provide tennis lessons for a day, and the YMCA is coming to provide Zumba lessons for a day - We hosted a family fun night where many lessons were taught, including some fast action games families can play together at home - A sports club is offered every Tuesday and Thursday for 3-5th graders, where they stay after school to play different sports together.

CLE SHAC report-4/4/16

CLE was awarded the Bronze Healthy Schools Program award and the Let’s Move! Active

Schools award!

CLE staff participated in a 9 week Step Competition using the Fitbit app to track each

others steps. We had over 30 participants weekly and some serious competition! Weekly

prizes were awarded.

Our motto this year is #CLEgetfit2K16. We have used technology and social media to

reach out to our students and families to challenge them to be active and healthy before

and after school and on the weekends.

Watch our Garden Grow- Our gardens have been planted and are looking good!
