Introduction Prayer is a powerful thing. Prayer can also be a confusing thing for kids. Many kids think they don’t pray “good enough.” Many times, it is because of a lack of understanding as to what prayer really is. In this series, children will learn very practical ways they can pray for oth-ers. From praying for the sick to praying for our missionaries to praying for an unsaved friend or family member, these lessons will teach kids how to “Pray Until Something Happens!” I hope you and your kids enjoy this series as much as my team and I enjoyed putting it together. It has proved to be a wonderful tool to help each child live in step with what God has called him or her to be! May God bless you and your ministry! Brian D. Dollar Kids Pastor

The Elements The BIG IDEA: This is the main thought you want to get across to the kids during the week’s lesson. Most of the time, the BIG IDEA is a simple statement that sums up the entire week’s lesson. Sometimes it rhymes, sometimes it relies on rhythm, and other times it is just crazy! The plan is to have the kids learn the BIG IDEA by repetition. Included on the Music CD is the soundbyte “Hey! What’s The Big Idea?” (track #1). This is a soundbyte that your sound tech can play as many times during the service as desired. Each time the kids hear the soundbyte, they should stand up and say the week’s BIG IDEA. Lesson Intro Videos and Skittles Videos: These videos are hosted by Cherith, who introduces the lesson each week. We suggest you open your service with this segment to help set the tone for the rest of the time. The Lesson Intro also teaches the BIG IDEA each week! “Skittles” is a wacky, zany, wanna-be hip hop artist who reinforces the Power Verse each week. We suggest you play these videos right before you teach the week’s Power Verse. He also comes back to “Rap Up” the lesson in the “Rap It Up” videos. Game Time: Each lesson is reinforced by a game. Since most children’s church services make use of the natural rivalry of “boys vs girls,” that is the way most of the games are set up. Materials are listed and games are explained for each week. There are also high energy instrumental game songs included on the Music CD. Some of them are 60-second versions (to be used for games with a one-minute time limit), and some of them are extended versions. More music can be found on the multiple volumes of Crazy Kids Game Music CDs (available online at www.highvoltage-kids.com). Puppet Skits: Use your favorite puppets to perform these skits. Most of them are puppets interacting with humans, which can be you or any member of your team. Names can be changed for each specific church and situation. Illustrated Messages: Because kids tend to learn best if you combine speaking the truth with visual illustrations, we have written an illustrated sermon to be used each week. Materials are listed, and manuscripts are provided. Each illustrated sermon comes with a PowerPoint presentation for each main point. The DVD: Included on the DVD are the “Lesson Intro” segments, Skittles Video segments, Video Illustra-tions, a five-minute countdown, plus “Rap It Up” Video segments. The Music CD: Contained on this music disc are game songs, the BIG IDEA soundbyte, the world famous “OFFERING TIME” song, and “Let’s Play A Game.” The Data CD: This CD contains graphics and artwork of the “PUSH” logo for you to use for promotion. Also included are PowerPoint games, slides for use during illustrated sermons, and PowerPoint slides for each Big Idea and Power Verse. This is also where you will find the entire Lesson Manual for the series.

How TO USE THE LESSON PLAN WORKSHEET The first page of each lesson includes a lesson plan for the service with a suggested order of service that you may follow. On the second page of each lesson is a worksheet with a schedule of events for your service with blanks that you fill in and photocopy for your team of workers. Please note that each lesson worksheet includes “Lesson Intro Video,” “Game Time,” “Illustrated Sermon,” “Skittles Video,” and the other lesson segments we provide with the curriculum. Just fill in the blanks as you plan your service and give them to the people who help with your service.

Illustrated Message “How To Pray With Confidence!” Review Questions

So often people are intimidated by the idea of praying to an Almighty God. They think they don’t have the right words to say. Sometimes they even think they are not worthy to talk to God. Too often, people buy into the lie that God doesn’t really hear us when we pray. They believe that God is not inter-ested in our everyday lives. In this lesson, we will discuss how we can pray with confidence in knowing that God hears us when we pray. Not only does He hear us, but He will answer. Sometimes He answers “Yes,” sometimes “No,” and other times “Wait.”

Puppet Skit Character: Silly Willy is a hyperactive puppet that thrives on “scaring” the leaders/workers. (You can use any puppet your kids are familiar with in your services.) Leader: What a cool subject to be talking about today, kids. Prayer is a really awesome... (Silly Willy makes noise by the puppet stage until finally the leader goes to check it out. Then, Silly Willy pops up and scares the leader and laughs about it.) Leader: Silly Willy! I can’t believe you scared me like that! Silly Willy: Me neither! You fall for that every time! Leader: Well, not every time. Silly Willy: Oh, yes, you do! Hey, kids, does she fall for it every time or what? (kids respond) See? Leader: Well, OK, so maybe I do. But, I’m glad you’re here today because we are starting a brand new series this week. Silly Willy: Oh, cool! I love new stuff! So, what’s it called? Leader: “P.U.S.H.!” Silly Willy: Push? What kind of name is that? Leader: Well, that’s not the whole name. It stands for “Pray Until Something Happens.” Silly Willy: P.U.S.H., huh? Leader: That’s right! Silly Willy: (a little skeptical) Pray until something happens, huh? Leader: You got it! Silly Willy: Well, then you’re gonna be praying a long time. Leader: What do you mean? Silly Willy: I mean if you are going to pray until something happens, then you are going to be praying a long time because it doesn’t work.

Puppet Skit (continued) Leader: Doesn’t work? What do you mean it doesn’t work? Silly Willy: I mean exactly what I said. Prayer doesn’t work. I tried it once. It didn’t work. God doesn’t hear us when we pray. Leader: Silly Willy! I am surprised at you. Why would you say that God doesn’t hear us? Silly Willy: Because one time, a long time ago, I prayed and asked God for something I really really wanted. I waited, and I waited, and I waited, and nothing ever happened. So, God obviously doesn’t hear us when we pray. Leader: Well, what was it that you prayed for? Silly Willy: It doesn’t matter! Nothing happened anyway! Leader: Well, it does matter. What was it? Tell us. Silly Willy: I don’t want to talk about it. Leader: C’mon, Silly Willy! We want to know. Don’t you want to know what it was, kids? Silly Willy: Well, OK….I asked for…a million pounds of chocolate! It didn’t work! (begins to break down sobbing) Leader: Well, Silly Willy, I know that you probably wanted that chocolate. But, a million pounds? Silly Willy: You have not because you ask not! Leader: Well, Silly Willy...did you ever stop to think that maybe God heard you, but His answer was “No?” You see, a million pounds of chocolate would be very bad for you. It would make you sick...maybe even kill you. Silly Willy: Well, I don’t want to die! Leader: No, and God doesn’t want you to die either. You see, just because we don’t get exactly what we ask for doesn’t mean that God is not listening. Sometimes His answer is “Yes,” sometimes it is “No,” and other times He just says, “Wait.” Silly Willy: You mean God heard me even though I didn’t get the chocolate? Leader: That’s right! The Bible says that God hears us no matter what. Every time we pray, He hears us. BUT, we have to ask for things that are in His will, not our own.

Puppet Skit (continued) Silly Willy: Oh. That’s where I messed up. Leader: It sure is. So, don’t think that God doesn’t hear you. You just have to ask according to HIS will. Can you do that? Silly Willy: I sure can. No more silly selfish prayers. That means I can mark my other thing off the prayer list. Leader: What was that? Silly Willy: Two thousand gallons of MOUNTAIN DEW!!!!!! Leader: Silly Willy! Silly Willy: Goodbye, everybody! Leader: Goodbye, Silly Willy! (Silly Willy exits.) You know, kids. That’s a great lesson. You have to pray according to God’s will. If God doesn’t answer “Yes,” He may be saying “No,” or maybe “Wait.” But, no matter what, we know that He hears us and He WILL answer!

Game Time “Believe It? Or Not!” Setup: Our suggestion is that you “signal” it is game time not by saying “OK, so now it is time to play a game,” but rather allowing the “Let’s Play A Game” song (from the music CD provided) to be the audio signal. As soon as they hear the song interrupt you while you are talking, they will know they are about to experience one of the wildest games of their lives. Items Needed For Game: The Data CD (Lesson One slideshow, beginning with title slide “Believe It ?Or Not!”), some sort of buzzer system (optional); If you are unable to use a computer with PowerPoint, please find the game questions on the next page. How To Play: Choose three boys and three girls to compete. Each slide has a goofy statement that may be true (or false). The first one to “buzz in” and get the answer correct gets a point. If a contestant buzzes in first, but gets it wrong, the other team gets a point. The team to earn the most points during the game wins. At the end of the game say, “You know boys and girls, in life we have to make a lot of choices. We have to choose what’s going to be important in our lives. Whatever we choose to make important, that’s what is going to get done. Just like in this game, we had to choose whether or not to believe the statement. In life, we have to choose whether or not we will make prayer a priority in our lives. We MUST make the right choice. Prayer works! God wants to hear and answer our prayers. Make the right choice. Choose to make prayer the number one priority in your life.”

Believe it or not? (Believe It!) 2. Every second, Americans eat more than one hundred pounds of chocolate. Believe it or not? (Believe It!) 3. A person uses close to 57 sheets of toilet paper per day. Believe it or not?

(Believe It!) 4. There are approximately 120 house fires per year in the United States. Believe it or not? (NOT! There is a house fire every 45 seconds!) 5. Toenails grow faster than fingernails. Believe it or not? (NOT!) 6. Americans use more red toothbrushes than blue ones. Believe it or not? (NOT!) 7. The average American drinks about 600 cans of soft drink per year. Believe it or not? Illustrated Message “Praying With Confidence” Materials Needed: The Data CD; The DVD; a cell phone; large wooden cross; enough small pieces of paper and pens/pencils for each child in the room Preparation: Open the PowerPoint presentation on the Data CD titled “Lesson One,” begin with the slide titled “The Power of Prayer.” There is a slide for each point in the message. Cue the DVD to the segment titled “Can You Hear Me Now?”

The Message: (title slide) Today we are starting our new series called “P.U.S.H.: Pray Until Something Happens.” Prayer is such a huge and important part of our lives. Prayer is when we have conversations with God. Every person who is a follower of Jesus should pray every chance he or she gets. But, did you know there are some people who really struggle with prayer? It’s true some people have real problems with prayer. Maybe they aren’t sure what to say. Maybe they don’t feel worthy. Today, we are talking about “How To Pray With Confidence.” Our Power Verse today talks about having confidence when we pray. Do you know what confidence is? (allow some students to respond) Confidence = I Know That I Know That I Know (slide) If you are confident about something it means that you have NO DOUBT about it. If you are confident in your friendship with someone, that means you know that you know that you know they will always be your friend no matter what. If you are confident before you take a math test, that means you know that you know that you know you’re going to do well on that test. If we are going to pray with confidence, then that means there are some things that we can know that we know that we know about prayer. Here are three of those things we can learn from our Power Verse today: 1. When We Pray, God Hears Us (slide) That’s right. Our Power Verse teaches us that God hears us every time we pray. (hold up the cell phone) Have you ever talked on a cell phone and had a hard time hearing the other person. Maybe there wasn’t enough power bars or it was a bad reception area. That’s frustrating, isn’t it? It’s kind of like the guy in this video…(play “Can You Hear Me Now?” from the DVD).

Page 19: Thank you for purchasing this curriculum series from High ...storage.cloversites.com/waipunachapel/documents/PUSH Manual Master.pdf · Thank you for purchasing this curriculum series

Illustrated Message (Continued) Isn’t that cool? We always know there are plenty of power bars to reach Heaven with our prayers. God is listening. He always hears us when we pray. 2. If He Hears Us, He Will Answer! (slide) The second part of our Power Verse is just as important. It’s one more thing we can know that we know that we know to help us pray with confidence. We know that we know that we know that God hears us...so we can know that we know that we know that if He hears us, He will answer. Did you know that God always answers our prayers? It’s true. I know some of you are saying, “No it’s not. That one time I asked for a new pool for Christmas God didn’t answer!” The truth is, God does always answer. However, He doesn’t ALWAYS answer in the way that we want Him to. You see, sometimes we ask for things that are not what is best for us. God always answers our prayers. Sometimes He answers, “Yes.” Sometimes He answers, “No.” Other times He answers, “Wait.” He may want to do what we are asking, but it may not be God’s perfect timing. Even though it may not always be the answer we want, we can know that we know that we know God ALWAYS answers our prayers. 3. We Must Pray For His Will To Be Done! (slide) The most important part of our Power Verse this week is the last part. We can’t just pray how-ever we want for whatever we want. Our goal should be to pray according to what GOD wants for our lives. After all, He is the one who created us, so He knows exactly what we need. The best example of this is Jesus. Just before He was arrested, Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane. Knowing that He was going to be beaten and nailed to a cross, He prayed, “Father, if there is any way, don’t let this happen to me.” You see, He didn’t want to be beaten and killed. But, He finished His prayer saying these words, “Nevertheless, not my will but Yours be done.” We must do the same thing. We all have things we want. We all have things we hope God will do. We must make a decision that our prayers will not be about what WE want, but about what GOD wants. We know that we know that we know we must pray according to His will. ALTAR RESPONSE: (play soft music) Give a piece of paper to each child. Have the children write the ONE thing they want to pray for during the remaining weeks of this series. Bring all of the requests and staple them to the wooden cross. Display the cross at the front of the room for the remainder of the series. At the end of each service, have the kids gather around and pray for all of the needs that are on the cross. At the end of the series, have the kids who have had their prayers answered give testimonies.

Illustrated Message “No Fear!” Review Questions

Fear is a big deal in the life of a child. Some are plagued by the fear of the dark. Some are afraid of water. Some wrestle with the fear of animals, or strangers, or heights. No matter what the fear, God has promised us that we do not have to live our lives in fear. All we have to do is call on the name of Jesus and ask for bold-ness, and He will deliver us from our fear. In this lesson, the kids will talk about how many of the greatest heroes of the Bible were in situations where they had every reason to be afraid. Each of them called on God in the midst of their trouble, and He gave them the boldness they needed to conquer their fear and do what He called them to do.

Puppet Skit Character: Mr. Crabbe is a grouchy old man puppet that struggles with his attitude. (You can use any puppet your kids are familiar with.) Leader: Sometimes we all are afraid. To know that God is always with us no matter what is so nice... (Mr. Crabbe comes running in screaming at the top of his lungs!) Mr. Crabbe: Mice! Did you say mice? Where? Where are they? They’re gonna eat me!!!!! Leader: Mr. Crabbe, calm down. Mr. Crabbe: Calm down? You calm down! I’m running from the giant puppet-eating mice! Leader: Mr. Crabbe, there are no mice! Mr. Crabbe: Sure there are. You just said so yourself. Leader: No, I said “nice.” Not “mice.” Mr. Crabbe: Nice? They are not nice. They are mean! They eat little puppets like me. They nibble on our noses. They gobble on our eyebrows. They’re nasty little critters! I’m scared of mice! Mommy!!!! Leader: Mr. Crabbe, seriously. There are no mice in here. There’s nothing to be scared of. Mr. Crabbe: But, I am scared. I hate mice. I always think there might be mice around. When I go into my kitchen, I can’t go near the fridge because there might be mice underneath it. When I close my eyes at night, all I see is mice. I can’t eat. I can’t sleep. It’s all because of MICE! I am afraid of MICE! Leader: I understand. A lot of people are afraid of mice. A lot of people are afraid of a lot of things. But, you know what? Mr. Crabbe: What? Leader: You don’t have to be afraid. Mr. Crabbe: Well, sure that’s easy for you to say. You’re not afraid of them. But, I am. Leader: But, you don’t have to live with that fear forever. God can deliver you from that fear if you ask Him. He can take that fear completely away.

Puppet Skit (continued) Mr. Crabbe: He can? Leader: Of course He can. Anything is possible with God. Mr. Crabbe: But, I am really, really, really afraid of them. Can God handle those kinds of fears? Leader: Absolutely! Mr. Crabbe: WOW! Well, then, can we pray right now that God will take my fear away? Leader: You bet. Let’s pray. Mr. Crabbe: Dear God, I am afraid of mice. I don’t want to be afraid anymore. Please take my fear away. Give me the courage to face my fear. In Jesus name I pray, Amen. Leader: There. You did it. Mr. Crabbe: I sure did. I am ready to take on any mouse. Bring ‘em on! I’ll take on a field mouse, a house mouse, a Mighty Mouse, Mickey Mouse, any of ’em! I ain’t afraid of no mouse! Leader: There ya go! God did take away your fear. Now, go face your fear with courage! Mr. Crabbe: I will! Thanks for praying with me! Leader: You bet! Mr. Crabbe: Bye! Bye! Everybody! Leader: See ya later, Mr. Crabbe!

Game Time “Name That Phobia!” Items Needed For Game: The Data CD (Lesson Two slideshow, beginning with title slide “Name That Phobia!”), and some sort of buzzer system (optional). If you are unable to use a computer with PowerPoint, please find the game questions on the next page. How To Play: Choose three boys and three girls to compete. Each slide has a goofy phobia listed along with several options of what that might be “the fear of.” The first one to “buzz in” and get the answer correct gets a point. If a contestant buzzes in first, but gets it wrong, the other team gets a point. The team to earn the most points during the game wins. At the end of the game say, “You know boys and girls, there are many things that people are afraid of in life. You may not have the courage to face your fear. But, if you pray, God will give you courage to face the fears in your life. The little ones AND the big ones!”

Illustrated Message “No Fear!” Materials Needed: The Data CD; a Styrofoam cup; “magic gel powder” (sold at any magic store or online); bottle of water Preparation: Open the PowerPoint presentation on the Data CD titled “Lesson Two,” begin with the slide titled “No Fear!” There is a slide for each point in the message. Place a small amount of magic gel powder in the bottom of the Styrofoam cup (not plastic, glass, or any other cup), making sure not to spill it.

The Message: (title slide) Fear! It’s a huge thing in our lives. We all have things that we are afraid of. Some people are afraid of dogs. Some people are afraid of the dark. Some people are afraid of their own shadows. What are some of you afraid of? (allow some students to respond) As I said before, everybody has some something he or she is are afraid of. (share one of your own personal fears) The great news is, we don’t have to let that fear control us. The even better news is... 1. God Doesn’t Want Us To Be Afraid (slide) That’s right. God doesn’t want us to be afraid. It was never His desire that we be full of fear. That’s why our Power Verse today teaches us that “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of love, power, and a sound mind.” Fear doesn’t come from God. God doesn’t want to fill our lives with fear. He wants to fill our lives with love and power, so we can have peace in our minds. You say, “Well, great! I know God doesn’t want me to be afraid...but I am! What can God do about the fear that I have right now!?” Well, I am glad that you asked. 2. God Can Take Away Our Fear (slide) No matter how big the fear, God can take it away. You think it was easy for a little shepherd boy named David to face a mighty giant like Goliath? I’m sure he was afraid. But, God took that fear away and gave him courage to face that giant. You know what David did? He beat that giant! You think it was easy for a man named Daniel to face a den of hungry lions? I’m sure he was pretty afraid, too! But, God took that fear away AND He shut the lions’ mouths so that Daniel could stand before the King and declare that God was really God!

Illustrated Message (Continued) It certainly couldn’t have been easy for Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to refuse to bow down to the golden statue knowing that they could be thrown into the fiery furnace. You think they weren’t afraid to be burned to death? They faced their fear and did what God wanted. For that, God spared their lives, and they came out not even smelling like smoke. Let me show you what I mean. (hold up the bottled water) You see this water? It’s going to represent FEAR. Let me drink just a little bit of it to show you that it is really only water. (drink about half of it) Now, you see this cup? (hold up the Styrofoam cup) It is going to represent our lives. Sometimes FEAR comes into our lives and fills us up. (pour the water into the cup slowly) FEAR comes into our lives, and we feel as if we can’t do anything about it. Suddenly, we are full of FEAR and we feel helpless. Here’s what we have to do...PRAY! We have to pray that God will take that fear away and fill us with courage! We pray, “God, I know you don’t want me to be afraid. I know that you have the power to do anything. So, I pray right now that you would take this fear away and give me the courage to face this fear. In Jesus’ name, Amen.” Do you know what God will do when we pray that prayer? He will take that FEAR completely away! (By this time, the water will have turned to a solid gel in the cup and will stick to the sides of the cup. When you say the words, “completely away,” turn the cup upside down giving the illusion that the water has disappeared.) Isn’t that awesome? Now, I know what you are saying. “But, what if the fear comes back? What do I do then?” Well, I have good news for you... 3. God Is Always With You! (slide) God says in Isaiah 41:10, “Do not fear, for I am with you.” He also says in Joshua 1:5, “I will never leave you…” You see, kids. We don’t have to fear because God is always with us. He is a powerful God. Not only is He powerful enough to take away your fear, He is powerful enough to defeat anything that would stand in your way. And He will NEVER leave you. EVER. That is why our BIG IDEA says, “Never Fear! Jesus Is Here!” ALTAR RESPONSE: (play soft music) Pray for God to take away the fears that each child has. Have them pray for each other, that God would take away their fears. Then, remind them that the same God who is in the room with them right now is the same God who is with them in their beds at night or on the playground at school. He will never leave them!

We all have someone that we know who needs Jesus. It might be a family member. It might be a close friend. No matter who it is, there are al-ways questions in our mind about them. How can I reach them? How do I tell them about Jesus? Will they ever change? Are they too far gone for God to save? We must understand that NO ONE is ever too far gone for God to save. If He can save Saul on the road to Damascus, He can save anyone. We must pray daily for our friends and family to accept Christ. If we pray until something happens, God will reach them through us.

Silly Willy: Oh, I just dropped by to find out what in the world you guys are learning about today. Leader: We are learning about “How To Pray For Our Unsaved Friends.” Silly Willy: Oh, I have one of those. Leader: Really? You have an unsaved friend? Silly Willy: Yep, sure do. His name is Marvin. He doesn’t know Jesus. Leader: Really? Do you pray for him? Silly Willy: Nope. Leader: No? Well, why not? Silly Willy: Why should I? He’s never gonna get saved. Leader: How do you know that? Silly Willy: Because! He’s too bad of a guy! He’s mean! Leader: Silly Willy! So what if he’s mean. That doesn’t mean he’ll never get saved. Silly Willy: Oh, yes it does. You don’t understand. He’s really mean. One time he poured glue all inside this kid’s sneakers in gym class. The kid couldn’t had to take a shower with his gym shoes on for weeks. And on top of being mean, he steals too. He also lies, cheats, uses bad words, and even smokes cigarettes. There’s no way God can save someone like that!

You’ve got to pray for Marvin so that his heart will be ready to receive Jesus. Silly Willy: I do? I mean, I DO! I never realized God can save anybody, even the bad people. Leader: Silly Willy! All of us were bad before we accepted Jesus into our lives. We all sinned. That’s why Jesus came to Earth to die for us. Silly Willy: That’s right! Well, I am so excited! Marvin just might accept Jesus as His Savior. I gotta go start praying for him now! Leader: You do that! You never know. He could accept Jesus tomorrow or it could be a year from now. You just have to Pray... Silly Willy: Until Something Happens! That’s right! See ya later, everybody! Leader: See you later, Silly Willy!

The two girls are also partners and “friends” in this game. Blindfold each person. Take one of each partner and move them to another place in the room. They are not allowed to make any noise until you say, “Go!” Tell their partner that their friend is now “lost” and they need to be found. It is their job to search and search until they find their friend. The first one to find their friend by following their voice, wins. At the end of the game say, “You know boys and girls, there are many of our friends that are lost without Jesus. When our partner was lost in the game, we were totally focused on finding them. We searched and searched and tried and tried until they were found. We never gave up. That’s how we need to pray for our friends. We should pray and pray until they find Jesus as their Lord and Savior. They are blind to the truth, but God can still reach them. We can reach them! But, only if we pray for them and show them God’s love every day!”

Illustrated Message “Can You Reach My Friend?” Materials Needed: The Data CD; a Darth Vader action figure; the song “Can You Reach My Friend?” (recorded by Helen Baylor on her “Greatest Hits” CD) Preparation: Open the PowerPoint presentation on the Data CD titled “Lesson Three,” begin with the slide titled “Can You Reach My Friend?” There is a slide for each point in the message.

The Message: (title slide) We probably all have friends or family that don’t know Jesus. It breaks our hearts to think that they are choosing to live a life without knowing the love of God. Sometimes we wonder if they will ever ask Jesus in their hearts. It’s important for us to pray for our friends and family. We need to pray for their hearts to be open and willing to change when the Holy Spirit begins to draw them to God. To help us do that a little better, I want to teach you a few things this morning. 1. God Doesn’t Want Anyone To Be Lost (slide) God loves everyone. He has a plan for everyone. He does not want anyone to die without Him and end up in Hell forever. God created Hell for the devil, not for people. It’s the devil that wants people to go to Hell with him. That’s why he tries so hard to trick people into living their own way in-stead of God’s way. But, God does not want that at all. He wants everyone to be saved. That’s why He sent His son, Jesus, into the world to die on a cross for our sins. It wasn’t for just a few people. It was for ALL people. God wants to save EVERYONE! 2. It’s Never Too Late For Anyone (slide) I have heard a lot of people say, “I know God wants to save everyone, but my friend is just too bad of a person. I don’t think they’ll ever get saved.” Well, I have news for you. It’s never too late for anyone! As long as a person is alive, there’s time for them to be saved. You say, “Yeah, but you don’t know how bad of a person my friend is.” Let me show you something. (hold up the Darth Vader toy) You know who this is? (allow response) That’s right, it’s Darth Vader. I love watching the Star Wars movies because they remind me of something very impor-tant. Everybody knows how evil and mean Darth Vader was in those movies. Nobody ever would

Illustrated Message (Continued) have thought that he would become a good guy at the end. But, he did. Luke Skywalker kept believ-ing that there was good in him somewhere. He never gave up on his dad. He knew that his dad would turn to the good side one day. You say, “Well, yeah. That’s in the movies. That’s not real life.” Well, let me tell you about someone who was even more evil than Darth Vader. He is found in the Bible. His name was Saul of Tarsus. He used to hunt down Christians and beat them, put them into prison, even KILL them. The Christians of that day thought there was no way Saul would ever become a Christian. But, God had other plans. He appeared to Saul on the road to Damascus and told him that He had a plan for his life. Saul gave his heart to Jesus, changed his name to Paul, and became one of the greatest mis-sionaries this world has ever known. He wrote over 2/3 of the New Testament. Nobody ever would have thought it would happen, but God saved him. God can change anyone. It is NEVER too late. 3. We Must Pray Until Something Happens (slide) It’s not your job to save your friend. Only God can do that. What you can do is tell your friend about Jesus, live your life the right way in front of your friend, and most of all PRAY! Every day, PRAY! Every night, PRAY! Don’t give up when they are not saved immediately. God doesn’t want us to only pray for a little while. We must pray until something happens. If it takes ten years...PRAY until something hap-pens. If it takes your lifetime...PRAY until something happens. If we don’t pray for our friends, who will? It is our job to pray and believe God will save them. We know He wants everyone to be saved. We know He can save everyone. We must pray until something happens. ALTAR RESPONSE: (play “Can You Reach My Friend?”) Have each child get in their mind that one person that they want to see saved more than any-thing. It might be a friend. It might be a family member. Tell them to picture that person in their mind and pray for them as you play the song. Pray with them at the end of the song that each of their friends and family will be saved.)

For so long kids have thought of the Bible as just a book of really good stories. Although there are many won-derful stories in the Bible, it is more than just a storybook. It is a promise book. Throughout the Bible, God gives us promises that He will heal us, help us, be with us, guide us, protect us, and much much more. These promises are what we can lean on in times of trouble. When we pray, we can speak these promises back to God, reminding Him (and us) that He has promised to take care of His children. By reading what God has done in the past, we build our faith for what God will do both now and in the future.

Puppet Skit Character: Mr. Crabbe is a grouchy old man puppet that struggles with his attitude. (You can use any puppet your kids are familiar with.) Leader: The Bible is such a cool book that can help us to pray! It’s the greatest book in the world! Mr. Crabbe: (pops up) What’s that? Leader: Oh, Hi, Mr. Crabbe. We were just talking about the greatest book in the world. Mr. Crabbe: Oh, I have that book. It’s amazing. It helps me with my everyday problems. It helps me understand the world around me. It gives me direction when I am lost. It’s a great book. Leader: It sure is. So, you have one, I guess? Mr. Crabbe: Well, of course I have one. I wouldn’t go anywhere without my favorite book, Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes. Leader: What? Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes? That’s not the greatest book ever written. Mr. Crabbe: Oh, yes it is. Anytime I am in trouble, I just open up the book and read me a rhyme. It helps me with my everyday problems. Like the other day, I was really thirsty, so I opened up the Mother Goose book, and I read, “Jack and Jill went up the hill to fetch a pail of water.” Then, I realized I needed some water. So, I got a drink and I felt better. Leader: What? That’s silly! You already knew you needed water. You were thirsty. Mr. Crabbe: Oh, but then there was the next day when I was about to run in that race. I opened up the book and read, “Jack be nimble, Jack be quick. Jack jump over the candlestick.” Then, I knew I had to run really quickly in the race. Of course, I never did see any candle- sticks along the way. Hmmmm. Leader: Mr. Crabbe. Don’t you know that Mother Goose Nursery Rhymes may teach you some great lessons and tell you some great stories, but it’s not the greatest book in the world. Mr. Crabbe: Really? Then, what is? Leader: The Bible. Mr. Crabbe: The Bible? What good is the Bible? Leader: It’s an amazing book that is not just full of great stories, but it is full of God’s words; God’s promises to us that we can remember when we pray!

Leader: When we read about how God did such great things a long time ago, we can remember that those same promises are for us today. All we have to do is pray those promises out loud to God and we help our faith in God get stronger and stronger as we pray. Mr. Crabbe: So, then I don’t need my nursery rhymes? Leader: Well, those are great for bedtime, but for a LIFEtime I choose the Bible. It’s the one book that will last forever! Mr. Crabbe: WOW! Well, I guess I better get to reading my Bible so I can pray God’s promises! Leader: Good idea. See ya later, Mr. Crabbe. Mr. Crabbe: See ya later!

Illustrated Message “The B-i-b-l-e” Materials Needed: The Data CD; a large Bible; a map; a set of blueprints Preparation: Open the PowerPoint presentation on the Data CD titled “Lesson Four,” begin with the slide titled “The B-I-B-L-E.” There is a slide for each point in the message.

The Message: (title slide) We have learned today that the Bible is more than just a storybook. It is God’s word for our lives. We can use the promises that God has made in the Bible when we pray by quoting those scrip-tures out loud. When we do that, it reminds us of what God has promised, and it builds our faith. Remember the song we used to sing a lot in the nursery? “The B-I-B-L-E, yes that’s the book for me. I stand upon the Word of God, the B-I-B-L-E. BIBLE!” Remember that? Well, there is a rea-son we can “stand” on the Word of God. As a matter of fact there are several reasons. Here are a few: 1. The Bible Is Our Road Map (slide) (hold up the road map) The Bible is our road map. What does a road map do? (allow re-sponse) It helps know where to go and how to get there, right? The Bible does the same for us. Have you ever been in a situation where you just didn’t know what to do? You wonder what kind of decision you should make, so you just look up to Heaven and yell, “HELP!” A lot of people in the Bible found themselves in that same situation. We can look at the Bible and pray several of the promises that God has given us to receive guidance and direction from God. God says in James 1:5, “If anyone lacks wisdom, let him ask of the Lord who gives generously…” If you don’t know where to go, the Bible is your road map. Just pray and ask God to show you where in the word of God He has given you the answer for direction in your life! 2. The Bible Is Our Blue Print (slide) Have you ever watched construction crews build a house? You watch the guy in charge and you see him constantly looking at one of these (hold up the blue prints). Do you know why? Because this tells him how to build the house. If he didn’t follow these blue prints, who knows what kind of house he would end up with, if it even ended up being a house at all. The Bible is our blue print. If you want to know how to build strong character in your life, you look at the Bible. The Bible contains thousands of scriptures that give us direction on how to build our

Illustrated Message (CONTINUED) lives into incredible works of art. Don’t try to build your life based on what others think. If the construction crew just did what everybody walking by the construction site thought, what kind of building would they end up with? Probably a pretty messed up building, huh? That’s why we must use the Bible as our only blue print for life. We read in the Bible exactly what God wants our lives to look like. He is the creator of each of us, so He is the one who knows ex-actly what He wants us to become. 3. The Bible Is 100% True (slide) Every word contained in the Bible is true. God cannot lie. When He speaks, it is the truth. That’s why we can trust Him. When He says in Matthew 7:7, “Ask, and you will receive…” we can be-lieve it. When He says in Romans 8:28 that “all things work together for good for them that love the Lord and are called according to His purpose,” we can believe it. God never made a promise He had to make. God never made a promise that He had to break. If He makes a promise, it is 100% true, and He WILL come through on that promise. Sometimes we may find ourselves wondering if God really does want to do all the things He says in His word. Does He really want to bless us? Does He really want to protect us? Does He really want to comfort us? Does He really want to heal us? Well, 2 Corinthians 1:20 says, “All of God’s promises are Yes and Amen…” That means that all of God’s promises are true and can be trusted. When we pray, we can pray the promises of God out loud to help remind us that God is 100% faithful. Altar Response: (play soft music) Pray with kids that have a hard time trusting God. Pray that each child will remember that every promise in the Bible is for them and their family. God never goes back on His promises. Pray the promises out loud to remind your group that God is faithful.

One of the most dangerous and challenging jobs in the world is that of a foreign missionary. They face intense pressure every day as they try to bring the light of Jesus to countries around the globe. Often, kids don’t know how to pray for missionaries. They wonder what should they pray for. Should they pray for their safety? Their family? Their ministry? It can be confusing for a child who doesn’t know much about the life of a missionary. In this lesson, the children will learn some of the specific things they can pray for when it comes to foreign missionaries. If they begin this practice as a child and continue into adulthood, the world will never be the same.

Puppet Skit Character: Silly Willy (You can use any puppet your kids are familiar with.) Leader: You know, kids. Our missionaries really do need our prayers. Silly Willy: (pops up) Our what? Leader: Oh, Hi, Silly Willy. We were just talking about our missionaries. Silly Willy: What’s a missionary? Leader: A missionary is someone who goes on a mission to tell other people about Jesus. Most of the time they go to another country, learn another language, and learn the customs of the people in that country. Silly Willy: What? Why in the world do they do that? Leader: They do that because they know that there are people around the world who need to hear about Jesus. Silly Willy: But, how do they leave everything behind here in America? How do they leave the toy stores, the video games, the television, the malls!!!!!????? Leader: Well, Silly Willy. I am sure it is not easy, but they know that there are some things more impor- tant than video games and malls. Silly Willy: Like what? What could be more important than video games? Leader: People. Missionaries know that if they don’t go to these countries and tell those people about Jesus and how much He loves them, then they may never hear about Jesus at all. If they never hear about Jesus at all, then they won’t spend eternity in Heaven. That is so much more important than anything they give up by leaving America. Silly Willy: That’s true. WOW! So, maybe I should go with them. I can learn another language! I can go to another country! What can I do? Leader: Well, there are a lot of things you can do. Most likely you won’t be able to go to another coun- try to live, but you can certainly give money to help them live and reach more people. More importantly than that, you can pray for the missionaries. Silly Willy: Pray? What good is that gonna do? Leader: A lot of good. When we pray for our missionaries, God listens, and He helps them, protects

Illustrated Message “How To Pray For our Missionaries” Materials Needed: The Data CD; a globe; a rubber snake Preparation: Open the PowerPoint presentation on the Data CD titled “Lesson Five,” begin with the slide titled “How To Pray For Our Missionaries.” There is a slide for each point in the message.

The Message: (title slide) We have been learning today about what a missionary is. A missionary is a person who leaves home in order to go on a mission to tell others about Jesus. Most of the time, when we think of missionaries, we think of foreign missionaries. Foreign missionaries leave their home country to go to another country to live and tell others about Jesus. It is a very difficult job. They need our help. The best way that children can help missionaries is by praying for them. There are three main things you can help pray for our missionaries about: 1. Pray For Their Safety (slide) (hold up the globe) There are missionaries in countries all over the world. Some of those countries are not open to the Gospel. That means it is illegal for missionaries to tell others about Jesus. Our missionaries have to be very careful and even secretive about how they tell others about Jesus. In China, our missionaries have “underground” churches. That doesn’t mean that they are actually under the ground. It means that they are secret churches that the government doesn’t know about. Our missionaries have to be careful not to get caught. If they are caught, they may be put in prison or even killed. We need to pray for the safety of our missionaries. Pray that they are not hurt. Pray that they are not killed for their faith in Jesus. If we pray, God will answer our prayers and protect our missionar-ies from harm. 2. Pray For Their Families (slide) Many of our missionaries take their families with them when they go to other countries. Some-times their kids are very young and have to leave behind all of their friends. It’s also very dangerous for children in other countries.

Illustrated Message (Continued) One missionary in Africa named Scott tells a story of how he and his family were taking an afternoon off down at one of the beautiful beaches in Africa. They were videotaping their one year old daughter playing in the sand. Missionary Scott was videotaping his little girl from about ten feet away. He saw that she had what he thought was a stick in her hand. But, it wasn’t a stick. It was a snake (pull out the rubber snake). It wasn’t just any snake. It was one of the most dangerous and poisonous snakes in Africa. Missionary Scott ran over as fast as he could and kicked the snake out of her hand. She was safe. When they watched the video that night they were amazed by what they saw. Several times, the snake drew back its head to strike. Every time, right when it was about to lunge forward to bite her, the little girl would laugh and throw her hand back, causing the snake to lunge forward and miss her face by only inches. Several times this happened on the video before Missionary Scott realized it was a snake and kicked it out of her hand. The next day, Missionary Scott talked to his mother on the phone. His mother asked if every-one was all right. He said, “Yes, everyone is fine. Why do you ask?” She said, “Well, God woke me up in the middle of the night last night to pray for your family. I prayed and prayed and prayed until I felt a peace about the situation.” Missionary Scott asked, “What time was it that you were praying.” It turns out that on the other side of the world, his mother was praying at the exact same time that the snake situation happened. Could it be that her prayers are what saved Missionary Scott’s little girl? You better believe it! 3. Pray For Their Ministry (slide) Finally, we need to pray for their ministry. Many of our missionaries face all kinds of opposi-tion. Our enemy, the devil, does not want the Gospel of Jesus to be spread around the world. He sends witch doctors, evil people, and others to try to stop the spreading of the name of Jesus around the world. We need to pray that God will help our missionaries accomplish everything He wants them to do, no matter what they face. Pray that God will help them defeat the power of the devil in every place they go. Then, the entire world will soon know that Jesus is their Savior. What an amazing thing that would be. Altar Response: (play soft music) Take some time to pray for some of the missionaries your church supports. Get some pictures of them. Put them on the screen if possible. Take time with the kids to pray for their safety, their family, and their ministry.

Sickness is an unpleasant reality of life. Most children get very scared when they or a loved one gets sick. They often feel helpless, not knowing how they might be able to help the person in need. Although most children do not have the ability to care for and nurse the sick, there is an amazing thing they can do for their loved ones who are suffering from disease or illness. They can pray for them. Although sickness is a part of life, it is not the way God intended for His children to live. In this lesson, the chil-dren will learn how to pray for the sick and see them recover by the power of God.

Puppet Skit Character: Mr. Crabbe (You can use any puppet your kids are familiar with.) Leader: Nobody likes being sick. I am glad we are learning today what God says about how to pray for the sick. Mr. Crabbe: What did you say? Leader: Well, hey, Mr. Crabbe. I was just talking to the boys and girls about “How To Pray For The Sick.” Mr. Crabbe: You mean you can do that? Leader: Do what? Mr. Crabbe: Heal the sick? Because I have a friend who is really sick and has been for years. He could really use your healing powers. Leader: What? No, not MY healing powers. We aren’t talking about how I can heal the sick. Mr. Crabbe: But, I thought that you just said you could. Leader: No, no, no. People don’t have the kind of power it takes to heal someone. Only God can do that. But, as Christians we can pray for someone who is sick. When we do that, God is the one who heals them, not us. Mr. Crabbe: What kinds of things can God heal? Can He heal headaches? Leader: Sure, He can. He can heal anything. Mr. Crabbe: Anything? What about broken legs? Leader: He can heal broken legs. Mr. Crabbe: Sure, but can He heal the big stuff...like cancer? Leader: He sure can. We don’t always understand why people get sick, but what we do know is that God has the power to heal anyone of anything. He doesn't always choose to heal everyone right away. Sometimes His plans are a little different than ours. But, God has the power to heal anyone. That’s why we pray for people who are sick. Mr. Crabbe: Well, what do I have to do? I mean, I know God is the one who heals people. But, like my friend...what do I need to do to pray for my friend who is sick.

Mr. Crabbe: Well, what if God doesn’t heal them right away? Leader: Then, you know exactly what you have to do, Mr. Crabbe. You have to (turn to the kids to get them to say it with you) “Pray Until Something Happens.” Mr. Crabbe: That’s right! “Pray Until Something Happens.” I’ll do it. Illustrated Message “How To Pray For The Sick” Materials Needed: The Data CD; a thermometer Preparation: Open the PowerPoint presentation on the Data CD titled “Lesson Six,” begin with the slide titled “How To Pray For The Sick.” There is a slide for each point in the message.

The Message: (title slide) I remember when I was a kid and woke up on a Saturday morning. I wasn’t feeling well. I called my mom in to check on me. She felt me and thought I felt warm. Then, she went to her bath-room and came back with the one thing every kid hates to see. (hold up the thermometer) That’s right, a thermometer. She stuck that nasty thing in my mouth, put it under my tongue, and I held it there for an eternity. Then, she pulled it out, looked at it, and said the unthinkable words for a kid to hear on a Sat-urday morning…”You are SICK!” Nobody likes to be sick, and a kid at home on a Saturday hates to be sick even more. As I lay there, I began to realize there were many people in the world...even people that I knew personally...who were a lot sicker than me. Today we are going to talk about what we, as Christians, can do for those who are sick. We can pray for them. Before we talk about exactly how to pray for them, I want you to understand sev-eral things. 1. God Made Our Bodies (slide) When God created the first man, he took dirt in His hands and breathed life into it. With that, He formed the first human being. Do you realize just how amazing the human body is? God made our bodies with 206 bones, 640 muscles, 26 feet of intestines, over 70,000 miles of blood vessels, and over 10 trillion cells. WOW! He did all of that by Himself. He didn’t need a computer to help Him fig-ure it out. He didn’t need machines to help build us. God, the Creator of the whole world, made our bodies. 2. God Can Fix Our Bodies (slide) If your next door neighbor built a car and sold it to you, then in a few years that car broke down, who would you take that car to have it fixed? Your neighbor, right? Why? Because he built it. Who better to fix the car than the one who built it, right? It’s the same with our bodies. When we are sick, who better to go to than the person who built our bodies to begin with, right?

Illustrated Message (CONTINUED) Anytime we or anyone we love is sick, we can go to the One who made the human body. If God can form a human body out of dirt, surely He can heal us when we are sick. It doesn’t matter what the sickness or injury is. No disease, no illness, nothing is impossible for God. If He can make us, He can heal us. 3. We Do The Praying, God Does The Healing (slide) It’s important to remember that although God uses us to pray for others who are sick, it is He who does the healing. There is no power that we possess that can bring the dead to life or make the blind see. We can’t say a magic word or two and make sick people better. Only God has the power to heal. But, what we can do is pray. The Bible says to “lay hands on the sick and they will recover.” If we lay hands on the sick and pray for them, God will hear the prayers we pray and heal those we are praying for. It may not happen right away, but God will answer our prayers. He may choose to heal them by taking them to Heaven, but He still will answer our prayers for healing. ALTAR TIME: (play soft music) Bring children who are sick or have loved ones who are sick to the front. Have the other chil-dren and leaders lay hands on them and pray for them to be healed. Tell the children to pray until something happens. Even though God may not instantly heal everyone, God will answer their prayers.
