ho would have thoughtfive or ten years ago that

the venerable LP could actual-ly outlive the compact disc? After boasting of “pure, per-fect sound forever” for nearly20 years, the mass marketaudio industry now readilyacknowledges the manyinherent limitations of the CDformat and is rushing to offer aconfusinga lphabetsoup ofcompet -i n g ,incompat-ible digitalaudio for-m a t s ,each oft h e mguaranteed to take ourlistening pleasure “to the nextlevel.”

Despite the massive digitalhype of the past 20 years, theLP remains by a significantmargin the finest high fidelitymedium ever offered for homeuse. Its comprehensive cata-logue of titles will never berivaled by the compact disc, which already appears to be

on its way to a carefullyplanned obsolescence. In spite of the theoreticallyperfect measurements of eventhe most basic digital audioformat, we at Gryphon simplyhear more music when listen-ing to the LP. This is a goodthing, considering that thenumber of LP’s released dur-ing the course of the last half a

ago, Gryphonstunned the audiophile worldwith the Gryphon Orestesphonostage. Perhaps equallysurprised by the fact that wechose to do it all as by howwell it was done, the audiopress had only the highestpraise and admiration for theOrestes: “Utterly convincing. With a delightful firmness andwonderful resolution, itenhanced the performance of

one MC cartridge after anoth-er. It offers earth-shaking bassand beguiling, airy highs.”(Audio, Germany).

To take analog playback wellinto the next millennium,Gryphon introduces theLegato phonostage. The word“legato” is from the Italian for“bound together.” In classicalmusic, it is a composer’sinstruction to play in asmooth, flowing mannerwithout detachednotes.

The Gryphon Legatophonostage is the fruit ofour explorations into the latestcircuit topologies, low-noisecomponent breakthroughsand power supply innovationsin the service of the vast bodyof music that will continue toenlighten the lives of dedicat-ed music lovers for years tocome.

Fully balanced from input tooutput, with no op-amps orIC´s, the Gryphon Legato isavailable in modular or stand-alone versions which are iden-tical with regard to circuitry

and sound quality. The modular Legato can beinstalled in the GryphonSonata Allegro preamplifierand powered by the SonataAllegro power supply. Legatomodules can be factory-fitted

or added at a laterdate.

T h estand-

a l o n eLegato is a

slim line cabi-net to match the

Sonata Allegro preamplifier. Itcan be driven by its ownpower supply (identical to theGryphon Sonata Allegropower supply) or by the samepower supply as your SonataAllegro preamplifier.

In both configurations, thesensitive low-level signal isfully shielded in a dual mono,RF-free environment with nointernal wiring, fully sealed

PCB’s specified to the higheststandards, zero negative feed-back and DC coupling.

Designed to fully exploit thebalanced nature of the phonocartridge, the Legato phono-stage employs the finest bal-anced LEMO connectors.Impedance loading is selectedvia a high quality, Swiss ELMAattenuator which can bebypassed once the owner hasidentified the optimal load.

Component quality, mechani-cal construction and cosmeticdesign fulfil the high expecta-tions that come with theGryphon name. Critical com-ponents are sourced fromsuppliers with extensive expe-rience in building to the tighttolerances specified for mili-tary or medical equipment.Final assembly and testingare conducted in-house.

Dedicated to the music loverwho continues to seek out thecountless musical treasuresavailable on LP, the GryphonLegato phonostage is the keyto all the power, purity andsubtlety of expression cap-tured on black vinyl.
