Apply knowledge, technical skills, and teamwork and communication skills while working as a team in various roles to resuscitate or stabilize a critically ill infant. Consider how you might utilize low and high-fidelity simulation techniques for skill and team training in your hospital. Deadline for registration is September 21, 2011. Bauer, BSN, RN Lorraine Victor, MS, RN, CNP This Neonatal Resuscitation Program Instructor Course is an 8-hour class for staff who would like to be certified instructors of the Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). Instructor candidates will receive the 2012 Instructor Manual and DVD at the beginning of the class; which is included in their registration fee. During the course, participants will learn how to organize and set up an NRP certification course in their own hospital, administer the online assessment, and gain knowledge about how to certify staff according to the 6

th edition manual, implementing simulation and

debriefing into the training process. Upon successful completion of the 8 hour course, instructor candidates will obtain an American Academy of Pediatrics Hospital Based Instructor Card, and be prepared to set up their own NRP certification courses.

A Concurrent Session Schedule, based on your registration form selections, will be in the packet you receive during conference registration at Breezy Point Resort. Register early to ensure placement in the sessions of your first choice. In an effort to reduce waste, be environmentally-aware and decrease costs, MPO is taking the following steps: 1. Handouts will not be provided in the handbook. They will be posted on our website as of September 13

th. Participants are welcome to print handouts to bring to the conference. Those wishing to

have handouts provided by MPO will be charged $20. Please indicate on your registration form if you wish to purchase handouts. 2. We have transitioned to an electronic distribution system. Participants are asked to include an email address for distribution of reminders and the brochure. All registrations must be accompanied by a check payable to MPO and postmarked on or before September 28, 2011. You may also register on our website www.minnesotaperinatal.org by September 28, 2011. A refund, minus a $30 processing charge, will be given if notification of cancellation is received on or before September 28, 2011. Cancellations after September 28, 2011 and no-shows will not be refunded. If a registered person cannot attend, a substitute is welcome. You may register at the conference, but there will be a late fee of $20 in addition to the usual registration fee. To encourage “teams” of attendees from institutions or organizations, MPO is offering a $10 discount for each member of a team that registers together. The team must consist of at least 5 members and all team members’ registration forms must be received together. On-line registrations are not eligible at this time. A block of rooms has been reserved at Breezy Point Resort. Room rates are $89.00 plus tax per room, for up to two people per night. More than two people per night may result in additional charges; please confirm rates with hotel upon registration. This block of rooms will be held only until September 19, 2011 so make your reservations prior to that date. Breezy Point Resort will take reservations via phone at 800-432-3777 (be sure to identify yourself as a participant in the Minnesota Perinatal Organization). Guest room check in is guaranteed at 5:00 pm (guests are welcome to come early to utilize the amenities); check out is 12:00 noon. Conference meeting rooms are often cool. We recommend you bring a sweater or light jacket for your comfort. In an emergency, participants can be reached during conference hours by dialing 800-432-3777 and asking for the MPO Conference Coordinator. Calls made after meeting hours must be made to your room. Breezy Point Resort provides complimentary voicemail for each room.

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

This program is designed to provide state-of-the-art information on obstetric and newborn care practices, and is of particular importance and value to obstetric and newborn care nurses, nurse practitioners, midwives, family physicians, physician assistants, obstetricians, pediatricians, and allied perinatal health care professionals. After attending the conference, participants should be able to:

1. Describe the process to implement individual and population-based systems of care that are irrespective of the consumer’s race, age, culture and outcomes-based research.

2. Discuss the design plans of inpatient and outpatient care for implementation by designated healthcare professionals, which address the unique nutritional, developmental, psychosocial, nursing and medical needs of mothers and infants.

3. Develop personal goals that will promote a positive outlook on their role as an essential member of the perinatal healthcare team.

Successful completion of this activity requires that participants turn in all evaluation materials for attended sessions.

Nurses: This three-day activity has been designed to meet the MN Board of Nursing continuing education requirements for up to 22.1 contact hours (Wednesday: 9.0 – Thursday: 7.6 – Friday: 5.5). Physicians: This activity is being reviewed for Prescribed credit hours by the American Academy of Family Physicians. Final credit numbers to be provided on site.

REMINDERS

Only registered conference attendees are eligible to attend conference sessions, meals and activities. In consideration of conference participants, we ask that children not attend any conference sessions or activities. While we sympathize with last minute schedule changes, conference attendees bringing children will be asked to leave and will be refunded their conference registration fee minus a $30 processing fee.

Breezy Point Resort is only 20 miles north of Brainerd/Baxter. Take highway 371 north to Pequot Lakes, go right (east) on County Rd. 11 approximately 5 miles, through the Breezy Point front gate to the Resort Office.

On I-94, going north and west of the cities, take the Clearwater exit (Highway 24) right, across the Mississippi River to Highway 10 west (left), through St. Cloud to Highway 371 (just north of Little Falls) into Baxter. Continue on highway 371 North from Baxter, through Nisswa to Pequot Lakes, go right (east) on County Rd. 11 approximately 5 miles, through the Breezy Point front gate to the Resort Office.

From Duluth: Take I-35 or Highway 61 to Route 210 west to Brainerd, then follow the above directions.
