WELCOME TO ARKANSAS

GREETINGS TO ADCA MEMBERS

2019 ANNUAL ADCA

CONVENTION

LITTLE ROCK/NORTH LITTLE ROCK

This year we meet at the Wyndham Hotel in North Little Rock right across the Arkansas

River from Downtown Little Rock. Little Rock is the Capital City of Arkansas, and

literally is in the center of the state, so it is the central hub for the whole state. This is an

urban location and is convenient to all of what Little Rock/North Little Rock has to offer.

There is the Clinton Library, the public trolley, restaurants, pedestrian bridges across the

Arkansas River,

We have two days of tours planned. Tuesday will be an informal tour day in our private

cars and starting with the Big Dam Bridge (see tour schedule). Wednesday we will be the

formal tour with vans for transportation and includes lunch across the river at the Clinton

Presidential Library. We will visit the Quapaw Quarter, a collection of 19th and early 20th

century private homes, including Villa Marie, which was the setting of Sugarbaker’s for

the TV show Designing Women.

At the convention on Thursday we plan to allow all afternoon to be open to the public. We

will be providing coffee, tea, soda, and snacks for Convention attendees. Our speaker at

the Banquet on Friday night will be Callie Williams from the Arkansas Historic

Preservation Program.

As usual, there will be a display contest. The display theme this year will be "The Big

Boys" (Large Door Knobs, so those less than 3" in diameter need not apply).

Bring lots of knobs, plates, hardware, etc. to show, display, trade, and sell.

Hope to see y’all here, July 23-26, 2019.

Mike and Carolyn Smith

Other Attractions

in the area for your enjoyment

Crystal Bridges Museum

600 Museum Way

Bentonville, AR

3 hours northwest of Little Rock,

via I-40 and I-49

Bentonville is where Walmart got their start, Alice Walton

founded the Museum in 2011, after collecting artwork for many

years. The collection includes paintings by Stuart, Sargent,

Copley, Cole, Homer, O’Keefe, Parrish, Moran, Warhol, and

many others. Norman Rockwell’s Rosie the Riveter is on

permanent display. Their grounds include a Frank Lloyd Wright

Usonian house restored and moved from New Jersey.

Eureka Springs

3 ½ hours north of Little Rock, via

US-65

A Victorian resort village in the Ozark Mountains, with the entire

city included in the Eureka Springs National Historic District.

The town has many antique shops, restaurants, and Victorian

homes. The Crescent Hotel is an 1886 hotel designed by St.

Louis architect Isaac Taylor. The hotel was restored by Marty

and Elise Roenigk (ADCA Member #181) in the late 1990s, and

features antique hardware among many other historic

furnishings.

Hot Springs

1 hour south of Little Rock, via

I-30 and US-70

Hot Springs is just south of Little Rock a bit and is Arkansas'

most popular vacation spot. It has a famous and infamous past.

It was first discovered by Hernando de Soto in 1541. It's

infamous past includes illegal but open gambling until the late

1960's. It's more famous past includes Bath House Row and the

National Park.

Hot Springs has 3 great lakes for condos, recreation, and fishing.

Carolyn and I attend our annual family get together at Shangri-

La on Lake Ouachita.

If you decide to visit Hot Springs, I can suggest the Arlington

Hotel. It hasn't been updated in a while, but it is nice and clean.

It is historical (known in Arkansas as the Grand Old Lady) and

it is in the right location, on Bath House Row. Bath House Row

is where the history of the city is. That's where you will find the

National Park, the famous Promenade, the Bath Houses, Hot

Springs Mountain, shops, entertainment, Gulpha Gorge, and

even the Alligator Farm.

Note: If you drive into Hot Springs on Highway 70 and 70B, the

tower on top of Hot Springs Mt. is the first landmark you will

probably notice.

CONVENTION PROGRAM ADS

All members (whether you are attending or not) are invited and

urged to contribute to the Souvenir Program booklet this year.

This is yet another way to support your club. Create an

interesting entry relating to knobs, hardware, collections, your

business, etc.

Please use the following guidelines to submit copy for inclusion

in the souvenir program.

The preferred method is via email to [email protected].

All copy must be complete and ready to be scanned. It may be

an ad you have used before in a publication of any sort. If so, we

need the ad itself, taken from the publication. Cut it out of the

page and send it in.

We can't use a hand drawn sketch or a rough copy of something

unless that is exactly the way you want it to appear in the booklet.

If you want your business card reproduced, we can handle that.

The same applies for greetings or well wishes.

Hand written copy is fine, typed is better. We will put it in final

form for the printer. Ad copy cannot be returned to you unless

absolutely necessary. If the copy is to be returned, please include

a self-addressed stamped envelope. Payment is to be made at the

time of submission, personal check or money order (NO CASH).

Make check or money order payable to ADCA and send to:

Full Page 5 x 8

Half Page 5 X 4

Dotted boxes indicate size of

Quarter Page ad or Business Card.

They may be displayed either

horizontally or vertically

Note:

For those in doubt -

Your business card will be placed

horizontally not vertically

on the page
