WELCOME TO GUJARAT
Gujarat is a prosperous, industrial state with a
rich history of great conquests and battles. She has
borne the burnt of brutal invasions and freedom
struggle. Being a very fertile land it was a center of
attraction for many a king across the Asian
continent. The worst attack was the invasion of
Muhammad Gaznavi who plundered the gold from
the famous Somanath temple for which he conquered Gujarat for 17
times. Mahatma Gandhi spinned the thread of Indian Freedom
Struggle and applied salt to the British empire from this state. It is the
birth place of the Iron Man of India Sardar Vallabhabhai Patel who
was a great unifying force in the independent
India.
It is the state where azure seas meet
sparkling sands, blushing sunsets embrace
rosy dawns. The Jungles are verdant, lush
and green, where lions prowl and flemingoes preeb. Marble
temples white and pure, reflect the glory of the days of yore. Age
old palaces browned in the sun and waterparks for a day of fun.
Here t r ibal l i fe is a
celebration, of music,
dance and multi coloured traditions.
Gujarat could well be termed as the ‘Land
of Festivals and Fairs’ with almost 3,500 of them
being celebrated in different parts of the state
every year. Like elsewhere in India, the festivals
and fairs of Gujarat revolve around an occasion
be it the turn of a season, the time for harvesting
a golden field, or a religious event from India’s
extensive and rich mythological traditions.
What’s more, these fairs and festivals, governed by the solar and lunar calendars old
world astrology, offer the visitor an excellent opportunity to experience the diverse cultural
and religious identity of the people of Gujarat.
Gujarat has always been known for its splendid
and evocative festivals. An estimated two thousand
festivals are celebrated every year in Gujarat. More
than two hundred of these are unforgettable
occasions that attract thousands of people. Though
rooted in religion and mythology, these celebrations
centering around gods and goddesses are truly
secular socials in which people of all faiths participate.

MEHSANA, the Heritage city Mehsana situated 70kms. North of Ahmedabad, was
the abode of the early man in Gujarat. The first traces of prehistoric culture in Gujarat were discovered in this district in 1873 A.D. by Robert Bruce Foote.
According to a legend, the town is believed to have been founded in the Vikram Samvat 1375 (1319 AD) by one Mesaji Chavdan. Here are the details of near by areas.
Modhera, sometimes called Mundera is situated on the banks of the River Pushpavati about 40Kms from our school.
Modhera is famous for its sun Temple, the best example of Solanki temple architecture in the state and one of the most magnificent monuments in Gujarat.
Adalaj Vav lies 40 Kms south of our school in Gandhinagar district. Built in 1499 A.D by Queen Rudabai, this step well at the village Adalaj is a fine example of magnificent architectural form, unique to Northwestern India. The step well or Vav as it is locally called is intricately carved with several stories in depth. The designs on its walls and pillars include, leaves, flowers, birds, fish and other breathtaking ornamental
designs. A unique characteristic of step wells was that they not only conserved water but
were also cool chambers where one could rest during hot summer months, in the olden days, these step wells used to be frequented by travelers and caravans as stopovers along their trade routes.
Lothal in the dialect of the local people, literally means the dead ' . A F ind of t remendous archaeological significance Lothal lies 120Kms. South west of Mehsana.
Discovered in 1957, it has been Proved to be the ruins of a full fledged settlement of the Harappan era dating as far back as the 2nd millennium B.C. During prehistoric times, Lothal would have been a very important port on the subcontinent, indicated
by a dockyard revealed in excavations at Lothal. it also shows a very high degree of town planning, like other sites in the Indus valley.
The discovery of seals at Lothal suggests that the former civilization from this part of the Indian subcontinent traded frequently with the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia Egypt and Persia.

Sprawling in an area of 1424 sq.
kms., Gir with its dry deciduous forest is a
luxuriantly rich ecosystem-endowed with
floral and faunal plentitude. Thirty species of
reptiles, several species of insects and birds
are found here. The forest is the only place in
the world, outside Africa, where the lion can
be seen in its natural habitat. Gir the last
refuge of the king of the jungle, is one of the largest and most important
wildlife sanctuaries in India.
The number of lions in Gir had dwindled to a mere 15 by the turn of
the century, due to extensive trophy hunting. In the early 1900s the Nawab
of Junagadh was advised by Lord Curzon to protect the remaining lions. The Lion was
declared a protected animal, although concerted conservation efforts started much later.
9
Wild Life Gujarat is a unique state that has many kinds of habitats. These varied land include
dry deciduous forests, majestic grasslands, wetlands, marine eco systems and rich moist
deciduous forests. These habitats are home to some extremely rare Wild life. The Asiatic
Lion is found only in Gir. The Wild Ass in the Rann of Kutch, the rare Great Indian bustard
in the bird reserves, the world's only four-horned antelope and black buck are some other
valued species protected in Gujarat. The dugong and the rare boralia species also find a
safe haven here.
While on the exotic trails in Gujatrat
one simply can not miss a visit to
Balasinor and Kutch to view the
dinasour reptiles of a bygone ear.
Dinasour fossils, eggs have been
found in Balasinor and Kutch areas of Gujarat. Specific finds
include Stegosaurus, Megalosaurus, Ornithomimus, Diplodocurus, Allosaurus,
Tiranosaurus, Brontosaurus, Tyrannosaurus, Coelurus.
A 1600km. long coastline, the longest in
India, binds the state of Gujarat from the
west. It is dotted with some really fine
beaches like those of Ahmedpur-Mandvi,
Kutch-Mandvi, Chorwad and Gopnath, The
coast was also a historical center with
interesting Portugese forts, shore temples
port cities and beach Palaces.

Gujarat's Capital rises on the west bank of the Sabarmati river, about 50kms. South east of our school. Gandhinagar presents the spacious, Well organized look of an architecturally integrated city.
Around the State Government Complex, Stretch thirty sectors into which the city has been divided. Each sector is fully equipped with modern amenities like shopping and community centers etc. In Gandhinagar don't miss out an opportunity to visit Akshardham.
Ahmedabad founded by Sultan Ahmed Shah on the banks of River Sabarmati in 1411 A.D. is situated 60kms. South of our school.
It is from the austere habitat of Sabarmati at Ahmedabad, that the ‘Father of the Nation’ -Mahatma Gandhi took on the mighty British Empire, and gave human" race one of us most remarkable ways to fight oppression -nonviolence.

Ghandhinagar, the Capital
Patan, the erstwhile capital of Gujarat
The historic town of Patan Gujarat in 756 A.D., by king Vanaraja Chawda, is situated on the river Saraswati, about 51 kms. from Mehsana. Patan was the Capital of North Gujarat upto 1411 A.D. It flourished durings the Solanki dynasty and has some interesting monuments. The streets of its older quarters present an interesting look with a melange of carved balconies, lintels of Muslim marble, domes and the canopies of over 100 jain temples. Patan's most famous personality is Kalikal Sarvagna Hemchandraya, the man instrumental for giving Gujarati language its first grammar. Patan is celebrated world over for its exquisite Patola Silk scree woven here.
Ambaji, center of pilgrimage
Anand, the center of white revolution
Situated on the Arasur hill near Mount Abu, Ambaji is one of the most important places of pilgrimage in Gujarat because of the famous temple of goddess Ambaji, also known as Amba Bhavani of Arasuri.
It is the principal shrine of the goddess in Gujarat and its actual origins are still unknown. The fact that this temple does not have an idol is indicative of its antiquity, since the worship of image of deities became popular much later.
Anand, 120 kms, from our school is located in Kheda. The Anand Milk co-operative society has transformed the lives of over 60,000 families in the area.
The kheda district co-operative Milk Producers' Union, the most unique co-operavite of its kind, was established in 1946 A. D. by the initiative of Dr. Kurien. Today it covers an estimated area of 2,000square miles, and is one of the most successful co-operative movements of its kind.

Mehsana, a prosperous district situated in the north western part of Gujarat in the foothills of the Aravallis can rightly be called the birth place of Milk Revolution next to Anand. The famous Dudhsagar Dairy located in the heart of the city is the largest dairy in India in terms of its capacity and infrastructure. There are many medium and small scale dairies in different parts of the district. Various breeds of buffaloes are reared in the district such as Murrah and Jafarbadi. Besides dairy, other industries also have flourished in and around the city which has all the infrastructure for the development of all kinds of industries. A good number of the population is engaged in agriculture as well.
The milk production gathered momentum by the initiative of Dr. Kurien who is instrumental in establishing National Dairy Development Board as a mass movement in Gujarat and later spread to other parts of the Country as a co-operative enterprise which gave a new definition to the concept of co-operative movement in India. It has become synonymous with the village prosperity and economic growth. In the early morning hours and evening one can see the smile on the face of the villagers as they queue up to sell milk at the local societies. This is their hope and life. Through education and training the villagers have adopted scientific method of cattle rearing resulting in the overall development of the economy.
The word Mehsana locally means the place of buffaloes. According to the legend the place derives its name from this animal, the reason why we chose buffalo as our mascot for the National.
The first occupant of this region practised cattle rearing as their chief occupation and it dominated the economic life of the people for quite sometime till the vast reserve of oil was detected in this region by ONGC.
Mehsana was the abode of the early man in Gujarat. The first traces of prehistoric culture in Gujrat were discovered in this district in 1893 A D by Revert Brace Foote. The town is believed to have been founded in the Vikram Samvat 1375 (1319 AD) by one Mesaji Chavdan.
