UL Transmit Power Control (TPC)

• Current AWD defines PC-A-MAP IE– This IE is TPC command for TX power correction

– PC-A-MAP IE has 2 bit-field• -0.5dB, 0dB, 0.5dB, 1.0dB

– AMS should interpret this IE as relative value to current tone power

Page 3: Text Proposal of PC-A-MAP IE Assignment in IEEE802.16 D3 (16.3.6.5.2.3) IEEE 802.16 Presentation Submission Template (Rev. 9) Document Number: IEEE C802.16m-09/2859r1.

Closed Loop Power Control

• In FDD Systems– Active AMS should keep track of short term channel at

least • For Control Channels

– Guarantee of Target SINR is important

– Guarantee of Target PER is important

– Periodic Tx power update by using PC-A-MAP would prevent abrupt huge Tx power change

Page 4: Text Proposal of PC-A-MAP IE Assignment in IEEE802.16 D3 (16.3.6.5.2.3) IEEE 802.16 Presentation Submission Template (Rev. 9) Document Number: IEEE C802.16m-09/2859r1.

How to Assign PC-A-MAP?

• Explicit Way– FBCH Alloc IE can include a field which indicates the PC-A-MAP

location to a MS

– The field size is dependent on total number of channels per subframes overhead increase

• Implicit Way– By coupling with assignment of UL reference signal, additional

explicit assignment might not be necessary

– One good reference is FBCH allocation

No overhead increase

• Suggestion is “Implicit Assignment of PC-A-MAP”

Page 5: Text Proposal of PC-A-MAP IE Assignment in IEEE802.16 D3 (16.3.6.5.2.3) IEEE 802.16 Presentation Submission Template (Rev. 9) Document Number: IEEE C802.16m-09/2859r1.

Implicit Assignment

• FBCH is assigned to AMS in mandatory

• We can exploit FBCH allocation order for PC-A-MAP allocation– BS can estimate UL SINR based on FBCH

– PC-A-MAP field is set based on estimated UL SINR

• PC-A-MAP location can be coupled with FBCH allocation

Page 6: Text Proposal of PC-A-MAP IE Assignment in IEEE802.16 D3 (16.3.6.5.2.3) IEEE 802.16 Presentation Submission Template (Rev. 9) Document Number: IEEE C802.16m-09/2859r1.

Answers to Concerns on Implicit Way

• Period of PC-A-MAP– Same period with FBCH period is not inappropriate?

– The more frequent PC-A-MAP than FBCH would be meaningless if there is no UL reference signal for UL SINR estimation

• Therefore, same period with FBCH is what PC-A-MAP can have at most if there is not any other UL reference signal

– The less frequent PC-A-MAP than FBCH would result in lack of information for power control on FBCH transmission

• Overhead PC-A-MAP IE of the proposal– This proposal request all MSs who transmits FBCH to be assigned PC-A-MAP

– Considering 320 users per sector and FDD frame with 8 subframes, 40 users per subframe need to be assigned PC-A-MAP

– This results in total 160 tones per subframe ( 4 tones x 4 users ) which would occupy less than 1.5 LRU

Assignment Rule Example (FDD)

• ABS assigns FBCH to AMS#1 in UL subframe#3 with 5ms – Then, PC-A-MAP is automatically assigned in DL #7

– Exact location in DL#7 is determined by the order of AMS#1’s FBCH in UL subframe#3

Assignment Rule Example (H-FDD)• In H-FDD systems, certain subframes can have limited transmission

due to reception of SFH– Subframe #0, #1 and #7 are not used for UL transmission– Subframe #3, #4 and #5 are not used for DL transmission accordingly– Only Subframe #2 and #6 are used for both DL and UL transmission

Assignment Rule Example (TDD)• In TDD Systems,

– Total number of UL FFBCH per ‘frame’ should be same to total number of UL PC-A-MAP IE per ‘frame’

– In example, period of FFBCH 1 frame and 2 frame for MS#1 and MS#2 respectively

Proposed Text : Remedy #1• Insert the following text and Table XX in page 394, line 56 of

IEEEP802.16m/D3 (under the Table 810- PC-A-MAP IE format)

For FDD/H-FDD systems, when FBCH is assigned to AMS, the corresponding PC-A-MAP IE to the AMS automatically follows the assignment location defined in Table XX. In the table, P is allocation period of FBCH by Feedback Allocation A-MAP IE (refer to Table 818-Feedback Allocation A-MAP IE) in terms of subframe. And N is the available number of subframes in a frame.

For TDD systems, when FFBCH is assigned to AMS, the corresponding PC-A-MAP IE to the AMS automatically follows the assignment location defined in Table YY. In the table, s is defined as s = Q * m +q where N : total number of subframes in a frame (N=D+U) D : total number of downlink subframes in a frame U : total number of uplink subframes in a frame Q : total number of FFBCH in a uplink subframe given by Q = Nfb*UL_FEEDBACK_SIZE –

LHFB/6 where Nfb is 3 in Mzone and 4 in Lzone with PUSC, and LHFB is the number of UL HARQ channels defined in S-SFH SP1

q : the index for assigned location of CQI channel for a MS (0≤q≤Q-1) m : UL subframe index (0≤m≤U-1) T : total number of PC-A-MAP IE in downlink subframe, T = ceil(U*Q/D)

16.3.6.3.2.3 Power Control A-MAPPower Control A-MAP (PC-A-MAP) contains PC-A-MAP-IEs for closed-loop power control power correction of the

uplink transmission. The ABS shall transmit PC-A-MAP-IE to every AMS which operates in closed-loop power control mode transmitted FFBCH. The location of PC-A-MAP-IE is specified in Table XX and Table YY.

Figure 513 shows the construction procedure of PC-A-MAP symbols from PC-A-MAP-IE.

The ith PC-A-MAP-IE shall have the size of 2 bits according to power correction value.

The ith and (i+1)th PC-A-MAP IEs shall be mapped to two QPSK symbols as depicted in Figure 513. Only the i th PC-A-MAP may also be mapped to two QPSK symbols for transmitting to the corresponding MS with poor channel quality.

Power scaling by sqrt(Pi) (0i NPC-A-MAP-IE)shall be applied to the ith PC-A-MAP-IE where NPC-A-MAP-IE is the number of PC-A-MAP-IEs and sqrt(Pi) is the value determined by the management entity to satisfy the link performance.

The QPSK symbols are repeated Nrep,PC-A-MAP-IE times, where Nrep,PC-A-MAP-IE equals two if A-A-MAP MCS selection field in SFH SP1 is 0b0, and four if A-A-MAP MCS selection field is 0b1.

Proposed Text : Remedy #3 (cont’d)• Change from line 63 in page 373 to line 2 in page 374 as

Figure 513 shows a cluster of PC-A-MAP channels, which consists of 2 PC-A-MAP channels numbered as 2c and 2c+1 where c is the PC-A-MAP cluster index in the A-MAP region. Channel 2c in the cluster occu-

pies the real part of both symbols in each tone pair before the SFBC encoder. Channel 2c+1 occupies the imaginary part of both symbols in each tone pair before the SFBC encoder.
