Exploring Bugs

This boy is using a magnifying glass to search for bugs in the grass.

A caterpillar can climb up a thin piece of grass.

Hidden Bugs

Bugs can be very hard to find at times. This is because they are very small animals. Bugs can be found outdoors, typically around plants, trees, and

in the grass. Looking carefully is required in order to find bugs, otherwise these small creatures may not be spotted. Use a magnifying glass to help, too.

If you find a bug and want to keep it, create a habitat that will help it survive. This may include dirt, water, and leaves in a jar. The jar will also need to have holes in it so that the bugs can breathe oxygen.

Different NoisesThere are many different animals species in the world, so it should be no surprise at all that all of these animals make different types of noises. A small animal may make a very soft noise, while a very large animal may make a very loud noise. There are millions of different species, so that means there are a large amount of noises, too.

Surprising Sounds The size of an animal candetermine the loudness ofits sound. However, thereare exceptions to this. The giraffe is an extremely large animal, but tends to be very quiet. Also, some very small birds can make very loud noises that can heard from miles away.

Plant Life Cycle

Here are the five steps of the plant life cycle.

The Five Steps Plants follow a life cycle, much like animals and water. It goes through many steps in its life cycle. The first step begins with seeds. Once the seeds are planted, a cotyledon, or a seed leaf begins to grow in the soil. It grows roots and begins to sprout out of the ground. Then, a seedling, or a young plant begins to form. As the seedling gets bigger and bigger, the adult plant begins to take shape. The adult plant will eventually form a flower. On this flower, seeds or pollen may grow in the center. This will eventually help the growth of a new plant to form. This is how a cycle is completed.

Frogs

©Tobin, Oct. 2015

Frogs are very unique animals. They are amphibians, which is one of the six main animal groups. They are unique animals, though, because they live two different lives. At the beginning of their lives, their bodies look like fish with no arms or legs. They breathe underwater just like a fish, too. As they grow older and their bodies go through a metamorphosis, or change. The frogs grow legs and form bigger bodies. When they are fully grown adults, they have lungs that breathe air and four long legs that help with jumping.

This illustration shows the body parts of a fully grown frog.
