mccombs Global connections study toursExplore global markets and enhance your international acumen by participating in the McCombs Global Connections (MGC) course. MGC combines an intensive three-credit-hour course with an eight to ten day study tour to the business powerhouses of the world. Spring 2012 Global Connections destinations included China, India, Middle East (UAE & Turkey), Southeast Asia (Vietnam & Thailand), Brazil and South Africa.

For six weeks before traveling, you study the economic, political, cultural and social background of your destination. While traveling, you learn about foreign business practices by visiting multinational and local companies and networking with alumni. You also complete micro-consulting projects for companies, doing business in their host countries. The result: you return with a better understanding of the history and culture of the region and insight into how to conduct successful business relations within that country.

Exchange programsFor students seeking more in-depth exposure to another culture, semester exchange programs offer the opportunity to gain business sense and a fresh perspective outside the U.S. Apply for the exchange you are interested in during the spring of your first year, then study abroad that summer or the following fall or spring semester of your second year. McCombs partners with approximately 25 prestigious institutions world-wide for one-semester exchanges. Many of our partners offer coursework in English and students typically earn 12-15 hours of elective credit while abroad. Exchange participants pay tuition and fees to The University of Texas at Austin and financial aid may be used during the exchange semester.

double degree programsFor some Texas MBAs, total immersion in a different country is the best way to achieve deep understanding of another culture and business environment. The Double Degree program at McCombs gives you the opportunity to earn two advanced degrees, an MBA from The University of Texas at Austin and an MBA (or equivalent) from one of our top-ranked partner institutions around the world.

To pursue the Double Degree, you must first be admitted to the Texas MBA full-time program and then complete additional application processes in the first year. Double Degree students complete 37 hours of credit in residence at McCombs, then complete the partner school requirements overseas. Completion time varies from program to program and averages 2.5 years. Students pay tuition and fees to UT Austin while in residence and to the overseas school while abroad. Costs vary among the programs.

Business Language programLearning a foreign language is a key to business success in today’s global economy. Gain foreign language proficiency, learn to communicate comfortably in normal business and academic situations, better understand economic structures and business practices abroad and prepare for travel in exchange or Double Degree programs through the Texas MBA Business Language program. A wide array of options is available to help you meet your personal objectives and fit your individual schedule.

mccombs Adventure program (mAp)McCombs offers incoming students the opportunity to connect with classmates before classes begin through the McCombs Adventure Program (MAP). This is an optional adventure trip for incoming first-year students that takes place before Orientation begins. Trips are organized and led by second-year MBAs. MAP provides a way for incoming students to connect with future classmates, discover exciting new places, enjoy an amazing vacation and begin the McCombs experience before ever setting foot on campus. Each year various international trip destinations as well as Austin-area day trips are offered through MAP. In 2012 incoming MBAs traveled to Belize, Nicaragua, and Russia.
