Faust Library Highlights Curriculum Highlights -Teresa Miller, a Language Arts teacher at Shippensburg Middle School was hired as a librarian in the fall. -Katherine Miller completed the Reading Apprenticeship training. -The librarians in collaboration with the 8 th grade core teachers implemented an 8 th grade cross- curricular project that combined information literacy skills and key components of the 8 th grade curriculum. -Both librarians helped to write the library curriculum that will be implemented in the 2009-2010 school year. -Katherine Miller helped to write the ELA 8 th grade curriculum that will be implemented in the 2009-2010 school year. -This year the librarians implemented the use of wikis as assessment pieces for 9 th grade English Elizabethan projects, as well as many of the 8 th grade English Holocaust poetry projects. Programs and Literacy Events -The librarians coordinated the implementation of SSR once a month during an activity period. -The Faust Library hosted two authors, Allison Whittenberg and Mary Kennedy through a CASD foundation grant to celebrate Teen Read Week. -The Faust Library also held a promotional literacy day to wrap up Teen Read week. The day featured school board members, administrators, teachers and students sharing their favorite things to read. -In November, the library hosted a Mock Election with the social studies, geography and seminar students. -In December, the library hosted a Scholastic Book Fair and made $800. -In January, the library hosted the annual Faust National Geographic Geography Bee in association with the geography department. -In May, the library hosted a poetry café for 8 th and 9 th grade English classes. -Participated in the Brusters’ Reading Incentive program. -Celebrated National Library Week by holding an after school game night, trivia questions and awards for the top readers. -In April, the library hosted an Earth Day celebration in collaboration with Student Council.
