Test Equipment Solutions Datasheet Test Equipment Solutions Ltd specialise in the second user sale, rental and distribution of quality test & measurement (T&M) equipment. We stock all major equipment types such as spectrum analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, power meters, logic analysers etc from all the major suppliers such as Agilent, Tektronix, Anritsu and Rohde & Schwarz. We are focused at the professional end of the marketplace, primarily working with customers for whom high performance, quality and service are key, whilst realising the cost savings that second user equipment offers. As such, we fully test & refurbish equipment in our in-house, traceable Lab. Items are supplied with manuals, accessories and typically a full no-quibble 2 year warranty. Our staff have extensive backgrounds in T&M, totalling over 150 years of combined experience, which enables us to deliver industry-leading service and support. We endeavour to be customer focused in every way right down to the detail, such as offering free delivery on sales, covering the cost of warranty returns BOTH ways (plus supplying a loan unit, if available) and supplying a free business tool with every order. As well as the headline benefit of cost saving, second user offers shorter lead times, higher reliability and multivendor solutions. Rental, of course, is ideal for shorter term needs and offers fast delivery, flexibility, try-before-you-buy, zero capital expenditure, lower risk and off balance sheet accounting. Both second user and rental improve the key business measure of Return On Capital Employed. We are based near Heathrow Airport in the UK from where we supply test equipment worldwide. Our facility incorporates Sales, Support, Admin, Logistics and our own in-house Lab. All products supplied by Test Equipment Solutions include: - No-quibble parts & labour warranty (we provide transport for UK mainland addresses). - Free loan equipment during warranty repair, if available. - Full electrical, mechanical and safety refurbishment in our in-house Lab. - Certificate of Conformance (calibration available on request). - Manuals and accessories required for normal operation. - Free insured delivery to your UK mainland address (sales). - Support from our team of seasoned Test & Measurement engineers. - ISO9001 quality assurance. • AP SERIES AUTORANGING POWER SUPPLIES

Compact and efficientBecause they utilise an efficient switch-mode topolgy AP series units are compact and relatively lightweight fortheir considerable power outputs. Theyare suitable for stand-alone bench useor for integrating into systems.

Powerful outputsThe voltage and current capability ofthe units is shown graphically in theSPECIFICATION section and can bedetermined when in use from two frontpanel bar graphs which show volts withavailable current, and current withavailable volts.

Output can be constant voltage or constant current and the mode in use isshown by LED status indicators (flags)on the front panel. Twin digital LEDpanel meters are provided to monitorboth voltage and current. Output isadjustable from near zero to maximumvolts and from near zero to maximumcurrent by 10-turn front panel controls.Alternatively, the output can be con-trolled from the rear panel using a variable voltage or resistance, or canbe remotely programmed by a computeron the GPIB if option /H is fitted.

An OUTPUT ENABLE button is providedon the front panel. When not pressedin, the panel meters and bargraphs display the prospective output settings. This is done without having to open circuit the load to set the voltage, orshort circuit the output to set the

current. When the OUTPUT ENABLEbutton is pressed in, the meters andbargraphs display the actual voltageand current being delivered to the load.

ProtectedCV/CI power supplies are inherentlysafe as both output voltage and currentwill be automatically limited to the preset values. However, to enable theuser to protect the load from an inad-vertent application of an excessive voltage, the units incorporate an overvoltage limit (OVL) which causesthe supply to down program when thepreset level is exceeded. It can beadjusted by rotating the ‘adjust OVL’control through the front panel. TheOVL level can be monitored on the voltmeter by depressing the ‘displayOVL; button. When the OUTPUTENABLE button is not pressed in, thetrip level can be accurately set withoutactivating shutdown or disconnectingthe load. A tripped OVL can be resetmanually or via a GPIBshutdown/enable command. Whenused with option/H the OVL may be setremotely overriding the local setting. If the power supply overheats, due to restricted airflow for example, the output shuts down automaticallyand the overtemperature flag ‘OT’ in thestatus window lights up. When the unithas cooled sufficiently, the outputreturns and the flag turns off. Both ‘OVL’and ‘OT’ conditions can be reset usingthe OUTPUT ENABLE switch.

Protection is also provided againstsevere reductions in AC power lineinput (brownout) which could causeoverheating or unreliable operation. The output will shut down until the ACpower line returns within operating tol-erances. An undervoltage condition canbe recognised by ‘UNREG’ and‘ENABLED’ lamps being illuminated, together with near zero readings on thepanel meters. Should the terminal cover

be removed whilst the unit is operatinga microswitch inhibits the output cir-cuitry and the panel meters indicate zero.

Remote sensingWhen supplying a load which is somedistance from the output, the remotesensing terminals should be used tomaintain regulation at the load ratherthan at the unit’s output terminals. Up to0.5 volts drop per load lead can beallowed for without degrading the specified CV performance.

Multiple unit operationUp to four units can be connected forauto-parallel (master/slave) operationto increase total output current. Controlcan be maintained from one master unitwhether the units are used under localor GPIB control (option /H needed forGPIB). Several units can be connectedfor auto-series (master/slave) opera-tion, the floating voltage limitation being120V DC maximum between output andground. Positive or negative trackingoutputs can be achieved by groundingthe centre of the series combination, orat any unit in the chain if an unbalancedpositive and negative supply is required.Neither rail should exceed 120V DC withrespect to the ground.

Current monitoringA current monitor output signal of 0 to 5volts for zero to full current is provided. This is useful for the remote display ofoutput current. It also provides thecapability for auto parallelling powersupplies should this be a requirement.

GPIB interfacingA GPIB interface card is available as afactory fitted option (/H). When fittedthis allows high resolution (up to 1:4000)control and readback of output. Theoption also activates LEDs which indi-cate if the power supply is ‘talking’ or‘listening’ or whether a ‘service request’signal has been sent.

AUTORANGING - the single unit solution to a variety of power needs

Used to displayvoltage and current simultaneously. The overvoltage limit setting can alsobe displayed. For meter accuracy seefollowing pages. Twin bar graphs of20 segments each give approximateindications of voltage and currentavailability and provide trend indications. Status flags within thepanel meters give LED indication ofCV and CI operating modes. A centralstatus window (see illustration)annunciates unregulated condition(UNREG), overtemperature (OT), andovervoltage (OVL). In addition, ifoption /H is fitted, BUS indicateswhen the unit is under GPIB control,LSN indicates receiving data frombus, TLK indicates transmitting dataon bus, and SRQ indicates that a ‘service request’ has been initiated.
