Teslers’ Time Out Wellington events Sat 17 Mar - Great Rugby Road Trip A massive nationwide rugby tour to say ‘thank you, New Zealand’, and featuring the coveted Webb Ellis Cup stops off in Wellington for a day to remember! The Road Trip truck is equipped with state of the art technology to allow fans to have their photo taken alongside virtual images of All Blacks Captain Richie McCaw and other members of the Rugby World Cup winning side. Special rugby guests will also be dropping in. Sat 17 Mar, 2-6pm, Waitangi Park. Free! Sat 17 Mar - St Michael’s and Kelburn Village Fair Enjoy the sun in Kelburn and stroll around the stalls - selling cakes, sweets, books, crafts, clothes and more! Sat 17 Mar, from 10am, outside St Michael’s Church on Upland Road Sat 17 and Sun 18 Mar- Government House Open Day Government House Wellington will open its doors to the public this weekend to mark the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, Queen of New Zealand. There will be entertainment on the front lawn, and you are welcome to bring a picnic. Inside, see rare documents and leave a message for the Queen herself! Language Buddies are informal exchanges between two native speakers of different languages, e.g. a native Chinese speaker learning English and an English speaker learning Chinese. Talking to a native speaker of a language has numerous benefits: you can get feedback on your pronunciation, an insight into their culture, learn colloquial phrases, make a new friend! Application Forms are available at the LLC. Also you can download/email the 2012 Application form, or register your interest through myVictoria ‘Groups’. In the Group Index, find ‘Language Buddies’. Join up to interact with a wider network of language learners, share learning strategies, files, links and make new friends from all over the globe! It commemorates Saint Patrick; the most commonly recognised of the patron saints of Ireland, and has gradually become a secular celebration of Irish culture in general. In New Zealand, Saint Patrick’s Day is seen as a day to celebrate individual links to Ireland and Irish heritage. The streets may be busy with people celebrating this weekend, but spirits are high and revellers are generally very friendly! Movie Night Welcome Back! Its been a while since we were all in a room together! So late next week we will be holding a Kiwi movie night. See our FaceBook page for movie options (we will put it to a vote!), or to post a request. More information will be sent out tomorrow! Victoria events Light Boxes at Cobblestone Park A joint Victoria University and Wellington City Council venture has seen the installation of three light boxes at Wellington’s Cobblestone Park, outside Victoria University’s Architecture and Design school. The light boxes will be used for showcasing some of the brilliant artwork from staff and students at Victoria University. The opening artwork is entitled ‘First Light’. Fri 16 Mar - Friday Lunchtime Concert: Jazz This week’s Friday concert features jazz pioneered in the 1960s by Ornette Coleman and Paul Bley. With talented locals on jazz piano, percussion and bass, and special guest Lex French on trumpet, this will be just the boost to get you through Friday afternoon!
